  1. I use analog.. on Who Cares if Analog TV Goes Dark? · · Score: 1

While I have digital cable at home, I still use analog whenever I'm driving as I put in a DVD/TV unit in my car (although I don't actually watch the TV, my passengers do). It's pretty nice having when you're stuck in rush hour traffic and want to catch the news or Jeopardy, or something along those lines.

  2. No Surprise on Australia To Use GM To Control Carp · · Score: 1

This is no surprise. GM recently used Australia for the basis of their new GTO.

  3. Q&A on Slashback: Centrinissimo, Damages, Software · · Score: 1

$12.60 eh? Not bad. However, I still find this funny in their Q&A:

    1. Am I being sued?
No, you are not being sued. Certain companies are being sued.

    Wow..

  4. Reported Earlier on Surgeon Says Face Transplants a Reality · · Score: 1

This was reported earlier in This Is London: http://www.thisislondon.com/news/articles/3609267? source=Evening%20Standard. No reg required ;-).

  5. At This Rate.. on When Spun Really Fast, CDs Explode · · Score: 1

Man, I've posted like 5 stories and they've all been rejected. At this rate I have a better chance of going through the database and posting an older story!

  6. Old News on Elements 116 and 118 are Bogus? · · Score: 5, Informative

This is not new news at all, in fact Berkeley scientists retracted their paper back in 2001. Here is a link: http://enews.lbl.gov/Science-Articles/Archive/118- retraction.html.

  7. Re:Rest in peace, Ox. on The Who's John Entwistle Dead · · Score: 1

  8. Finally on Do-it-yourself UPS · · Score: 1

Finally I can have a UPS on my $7 / hour budget :-)

  9. Casually Walking By on The Timex Speedpass Watch · · Score: 1

What if someone is just walking by the speedpass machine either at a gas station or the McDonalds and they get charged for someone elses gas? Although..this idea may be safer than the current speedpass, since they relatively easy to lose or get stolen (such as where you get your car repaired etc..). I think the ideal speedpass watch would incorperate some sort of fingerprint technology so you can confirm your purchase, or since current speedpass technology doesn't support that, have some sort of safe guard to activate speedpass technology on the watch everytime you make a purchase with it.

  10. Local Library on Telecommuters and Downtime? · · Score: 1

If my net connection is down, then I go to the local library since they have internet. However, you must be careful since securtiy isn't a major issue at public places. Also another option is Internet Cafes if they are in your area, but once again you must be careful.

  11. AIM exploit fixed on AOL Instant Messenger Remote Hole · · Score: 1

The exploit no longer works. However, since the problem does exist in the client, I'm sure it's possible to do this in some other fashion.

  12. Re:AIM just rebooted. on AOL Instant Messenger Remote Hole · · Score: 1

AIM didn't kick everyone off of the service. And the exploit still works. In fact it has now made national headlines.

  13. DNS Servers on AT&T Caps Bandwidth On Former @Home Users · · Score: 1

I live in the Illinois region (Chicago-land area) and I know both personally and from other friends that there have been quite a few troubles with the DNS servers. Since the first day I got it back I've been using 4.2.2.1 as my DNS server and haven't had any troubles with it. On a side note this is one of Genuity/BBNs DNS servers NOT AT&Ts.

  14. VIA on Intel Wakes Up To DDR-SDRAM · · Score: 1

So what exactly does this mean for VIA? Which earlier this year made it possible to use a P4 with DDR, and Intel got furious. The irony eh?

  15. MP3 has already been released on Michael Jackson Releases Uncopyable CD · · Score: 1

That doesn't matter too much, the MP3 has been out there for about a month now. Oops.

  16. Generalizations on Ask An Ordinary Teenage Slashdot User · · Score: 1

Hi, I'm a 16 year old geek, but get a little aggitated when people affiliate geeks with being pudgy, loners. Myself, I've been in love with computers for about 7-8 years now, and have been a linux user for about 2. I've also held different computer positions, and everyone knows I'm in to them, but am in no way a loner or pudgy. I am quite social, and active in school sports (track). What is your thoughts on this? Do you also get a bit aggitated when others generalize and demoralize us geeks?

  17. I'm happy on Slashdot Database Compromised! · · Score: 1

I don't know why anyone is complaining about this. I actually am glad that this happened the way it did, and I felt the guys who did this handled it correctly. No damage was done to the site and THE news site has become more secure. I would also hope the response to this incident from the people that run /. would include what the people did to post a falsified message (after it's fixed, of course).

  18. A Question For Metallica on Ask Metallica About Napster · · Score: 2

What are your personal views on MP3 music as a whole? Are you in it for pure greed? Or are you in it to make a point against MP3s? Or even a little bit of both? Walter Waltz

  19. Limp Bizkit on Dr. Dre Might Sue Napster Users? · · Score: 1

On the upside, Limp Bizkit is going to do a months worth of free concerts, and support MP3's, saying that if their fans like downloading MP3's, then that's what they like and they support it. I have a lot of respect for them because of that.

  20. Log on Bruce Perens IRC Q&A Tonight · · Score: 5

  21. Maybe it's just me.. on RIAA Sues MP3.com · · Score: 1

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but as an average 15-year-old I don't exactly have $20 laying around to go pick up the newest album, there's too many expences as it is. Not only that, but wouldn't life be so much better if music were sort of more of an "open-source" environment. Or, how about you have a website setup to have MP3s on it (the illegal ones), but make them legal by paying royalties to RIAA or whomever, and give the MP3s away for free. (revenues would be made by advertisments, and think of the popularity of the site, legal MP3s from big artists for free..). Just my thoughts.

  22. Actually Windows 95, 98, 2000 is not correct.. on Software Version Numbering After 2000? · · Score: 1

Actually there are only 9x versions of Windows that are from years, 95 and 98. The next version of Windows is called Windows Millennium, and the next one is Windows Neptune (or at least code-named). And of course there is only one version of NT that is named after a year..2000.
