    On the main NMA page, they show part of an interview with Pat Hines of Bethesda:

    TCW: "Any news on Fallout 3?"

    Pete Hines: "As I've said before, we believe in taking the requisite amount of time to do a game right. Oblivion is a good example of that - it's already three years in the making and wasn't even announced until it was more than two years in development.

    All we really announced last year was that we had acquired the rights to develop and publish Fallout 3. So, for us, it's still very early in the process and we don't like to talk about our projects or show anything on them until we are much further along the road to completion and actually have things to show.

    We believe that great games are played, not designed, and until you take all those ideas and implement them and see if they work, you really don't know what you have, so why bother talking about them? For example, we designed three complete combat systems for Oblivion before we finally found the one we liked, so as a result it would have been really pointless to talk about the first two at the time, when it turns out they ended up getting completely redone."

    The game probably would have sold a little better if at wasn't for the god-awful box art. I had zero interest in the game from looking at the box and didn't actually play it until several years after it had been released.

    The PC Gaming market is not shrinking.

    Maybe not, but crappy ports and games designed to work better on consoles (ala Deus Ex 2) are making up far more of the available titles. PC only titles are becoming a rarity.

    I didn't care a whole lot for The Moment of Silence. The premise was ok, but the execution left a lot to be desired. Worst aspect has to be the movement controls. It is a real pain in the ass trying to get the character to go where you want him to sometimes.

    The best adventure game I've played in a long while is Still Life.

    Deus Ex was great until about halfway. One time through, I was playing as a "company man", winning praise from my superiors for the way I dealt with the terrorist, and complaints from my brother for showing no mercy. Then they force you to betray UNESCO. It seems like they ran out of either time or money to develop that path.

    So until I absolutely need a DVD-ROM / DVD-R I have no reason to buy one.

    As soon as game companies start using DVD, maybe you'll see a reason to shell out twenty measly dollars for a DVD-ROM.

    One of the developers of Hitman told me that they that they deliberately dumbed down the AI, to make enemies less cooperative. Apparently they concluded that the majority of players were not ready for superior AI.

    That's a BS excuse. 'It's already done, and rather than put it in as really-super-duper-hard mode, we're just gonna take it out of the game.'

    Locking the door to the cockpit only works as long as people on both side of the door are willing to die - or see others die - to keep it closed.

    There is a very simple way around that -- don't make it a door. Put a bulkhead where the door to the cockpit normally is. Put the door to the cockpit on the outside of the plane. The only way to enter or exit the cockpit would be through the external door.

    Eight hours at $200/hr is $1,200. That's not actually a whole lot of money, you know? The developers who work thousands of hours are getting a fucking salary. There's a kind of a big difference there.

    Yeah, the big difference is that after those eight hours the voice actor is free to do other work while the developer is working 80 hours a week on "fucking salary."

    Eventually I'd think it will help eliminate the need for multiple voice actors. You'd still need a human to get the accent and inflection and stuff right, then mask it with whatever voice you want to use.

    but they need to properly audition and not just throw the janitor on at the last minute(though some games luck out with asigning staff parts , DMA(now rock star north) infact used their marketing manager for one of the DJs on GTA3.

    Considering they hired some pretty well known names for the game, I doubt they "lucked out" and just threw a body in there that happened to work.

    It's probably not so much that's it's not cost-effective to broadcast, but that it's not cost-effective enough. Networks make most of their money from the "hit" shows, so it's easier for them just to churn out new shows and cancel them after 3 episodes until they land the next hit. Futurama may have been profitable (I have no idea), but they were probably looking for Simpsons type numbers and regarded it as a failure.

    One day someone's going to start pandering to the niche markets and make a comfortable living doing so. Sci-Fi had that oppurtunity early on, but blew it trying to follow the major networks.
