to become pre-cogs, they're selected worldwide for their fine social skills and sense of nuance, being able to read someone is also an absolute prerequisite before you get a badge and a gun i suppose
so, if i search for my happy morning hatebreed song, i go like 'destroy everything' on my startpage i can be expecting a swat team on my roof in a few years then ?
sounds like a plan not a good one, but a plan...
the question there is, why would any 'sentient' alien with the technology to use nomad planets as route 66 gas-stations want to be here ? Unless they're as viral in takeover of virgin lands as the homo is i don't see what they could possibly want here and why they would even bother? Altruism ? I'd think the star trek prime directive would make way more sense from an advanced civili-type-of-zation point of view. That or the Klaatu way, kill all humans -> save the planet. The hey we'll give you stargates and warpdrives thing would be in fact really stupid if you see how we handle what primitive technology we have
to ban all writable and previously bought dvds from the market so the mighty cloudnet, which starts to look like skynets up and coming little cousin gets a hold and track of all that goes about. Or to ultimately criminalize the media since, face it, pedophiles use dvd's to burn their child porn on so it must be a illegal for anyone to use-kind-of-thing in the making ?
say my wireless router is open for anyone and i have a tor bridge running at any time... on top of that every time i connect from my own pc i go through a vpn... how would that translate then?
the car analogies do seem to work for everything but it is in fact completely not the same. First of all, even if you would agree to call it stealing the car you steal from an individual who's life gets seriously and directly affected to the point of possible ruin whereas uploading/downloading a cd does not directly have the impact on one single person/family possibly losing their cosy life over one single fact. I think that's what the metaphor means in fact so maybe everyone would want to de-bunch the panties here.
Other than that i'm not getting into it. Anyone seeing soapy-pipey or act-e as reasonably and in any way defendable probably hasn't read anything about the options it opens up. People who can't afford will still want it. Wherever there's a niche, business is created. It's the universal law of vacuum needs to be filled, a bit like with the quantum foam theory. The thing is here they are attacking the peoples who share this sh-t for free, not even making any money off of it because they are easy to extort because they are just Joe average, downloadmom and uploadson who worked their assess for what little they have and are scared to lose it so they easily budge under legal threat, viable or not.
I have to see i think they are achieving quite the opposite of the desired effect with their reign of terror. The resilience has become more or less vibrant. It used to be some underground thing until they started advertising, now everyone knows about it, and knows how to do it.
so in fact, i would agree that it is all more or less : BS:p
i have never had that kind of experience really, only when playing mmo's, anything else is usually more or less well-mannered and cOO, if all that's said there's true it sounds great, you can like divide the fruit ninja crowd from the dark souls crowd... a bit separatist maybe but you don't have to keep up with the noobs if you stay on the hardcore platform... if gaming is your number one hobby it might not be bad at all. I have actually noticed a decline in the weekly number of demos and trials offered on xbla and so far i'm not worried someone's gonna be playing dark souls , gears or battlefield on a tablet or smartphone really, since there's a huge crowd for that it seems to stand to reason that consoles (and definitely faster adapting pc's who hold the gamers with the hard cash to spend on hardware and games) are not quite dead yet
i apologize for adding to the post i just forgot to say that i thought the WTO was just this western overseer who says to all the others they have to play to these rules instead of theirs ?
yea, truly and really... being unfair and not playing by the rules? is that how they call it ? maybe that's why you see chinese business men always smiling... because of this kind of idiotic remarks. Why would they comply to anything the wto says? who will make them ? Who would be so naive to think that global business would be fair and played by the rules? I think they misplaced the article this must have been intended for april fools day
i"m sorry but when steam got hacked i got an email quite fast that my data might or might not be compromised and that i should check and renew passes anyway just in case, so some other companies would. Or maybe that's just why steam is the very proof that much dineiro can be made with pc gaming
that's actually a great idea, i was already worked up over the title because it would be a very humane idea to take a picture of what you're about to remove from existence forever... some kind of morbid preservation urge when it comes to the past they've wasted? but this sounds great, how it will come down with people kicking on the feeling of power they get somehow from pulling that trigger from i dunno how far away against a defenseless animal for sport, i don't know. But it is a great idea if ever there should be a ban on weapons it should be hunting weapons. There's way less wildlife to spare than humans if i may be so bland as to explain it in a few words
The story of a guy who got tracked down for uploading an unreleased kaiser chiefs album was all over the news here, pretty and very real... sued by the local version of the mafiaa and some publishing houses. The cops, who dont have time to solve all cases, did have a lot of time to shift throught ip-lists to track this guy down. Result : the judge (who i suppose thought as well this was a total over-reaction) fined the man 500 euros, but the damages went up to 65k, something the average joe here makes in about four years. So if he doesnt eat or pay other bills that cd will be paid back four years from now. The guy is ruined for life. Very real indeed, totally out of balance compared to what you get for other 'offenses', its better to be caught dealing heroin or kicking someone into the hospital than it is to upload a cd, that's the only message i could make from it (apart from the fact that copyright organizations are nothing but extortionists hiding behind laws)
it might in fact condition them to the exact opposite idea depending on their pre-disposition, i can think of at least one case where too much force without proper reason lead to an absolute distrust and unwill towards all things authority
next up : Sabu gets to cut a deal and is enlisted Mitnick-style since the only ones capable enough to actually defend seem to be the very same ones they have been criminalizing for just a little bit too long now. The moral of the story? Don't hacktivist when they can use your kids as leverage? Somewhat... looks like i will be right again that in case of actual cyberwar the very people they're hunting now might be their last and maybe only line of actual defense. But will they still feel like defending the ones who tried to bring them down ?
we'll see;) qq:p hahah, the irony of it all is funny in a very painful way
mh, the laptop has been sent away for investigation ? are they gonna interrogate it until it tells them where it got the prOn or something? Monty Python was great but lately the UK takes absurdity to new levels.
Lord of light is still my all-time favourite, i'd add Jack of Shadows as well if you're talking Zelazny
the Amber books are definitely worth the time and i would seriously recommend the whole manycoloured land series by Julian May
I guess it depends on what kind of information is released. Just putting out wads of credit card data of anyone they can find is not really a tactic that would gain sympathy or can be morally justified. Putting out documents to prove corruption and abuse of taxmoney or violation of basic rights is imo entirely justified even if it need breaking into whatever. I get the impression these loosely organised collectives arent organised at all. The first rule is that you shouldn't know too many people by name or personal within the organization if you intend to do stuff like that. You can't give up what you don't know. They should have done their homework. I read about other 'crackdowns' where one of the key figures was in fact working for a government agency and had infiltrated by committing various crimes themselves. The end and the means and all that. I hope the remainders learn their lesson from this.
And let's not forget the part where freeware dvd-ripping and burning software becomes illegal and you can get arrested over a piece of code on your harddrive in the near future. Orwell weeps
Too bad stupid and pointless seems to be the slogan of the year, and all this is indeed not inspiring very much confidence in or goodwill towards the current US administration. I can not imagine lawyers being so stupid to really think they are fighting something, whatever it is they call it. It's clear, or it should be to everyone, that everything in this farce is just about making a quick buck from defenseless people and getting the hell out. Guerilla lawfare and extortion all the way. The good thing is, with all their pointless action they seem to have aroused some sense of community around the globe. I at least think that's a good thing but i'm afraid it's escalating and we haven't seen the end of this madness. A lot of 'normal' folk are going to get hurt in the process. No good can come of it but the trolls like to hoard or so i hear so i don't think they will come to their senses anytime soon.
maybe you're not smart enough to understand mediocrity since you spend too much time here:p, i'm not Einstein by far but sometimes i think high daily doses of cough syrup would really bring me closer to a lot of people
I had a brief encounter with Rob Malda when i had a brief moment of google+ and i must say the guy seems pretty much down to earth and very likable. Don't know him in person ofcourse. I hope he can tone down on the intelligence if he has to direct a mass-paper into the future lol. Well, good luck anyway i'm sure they couldnt have picked a better guy if they actually WANT to do that
1) i come in peace
2) If you want to challenge me to a spelling contest i suggest you look for another playmate
3) language is a living thing, people expressing themselves in new ways is what makes dictionaries grow and languages get richer, the dictionary does not dictate what the language is, nor does the gremmar commandments
4) If you're the kind of person that looks for structure in sentences other than the idea they express in order to reply you might probably have made a very good lawyer of the patent-troll-kind ...
i forgot and am now probably so much off-topic that i have once more marked myself as ultraflamebait
never mind...
no,i just hunt for grammer nazis the point was a.o. that virus checking new files still came up with one alert for one of the two new files and then only with one online scanner namely housecall trendmicro the other reported clean on all scans but never mind lets just not get our panties in a bunch over zero punctuation
i think making promises they can't keep and not caring after being elected is a trait that is necessary if you want to be politician-class i'm afraid, i don't know what they're aiming at with their strict control over all policies and i dont know where in the seven hells they will get the money to fund all this, what with the british economy not being at its peak (like most others), it might just collapse into something way worse so many years from now
maybe any kind of great idea or theory turned into an -ism has lost its original purpose and is to most people nothing but dogma, in fact making them more or less the same as what they're fighting usually : one-sided

I'm afraid a lot of careless 'script-kiddies' will fall victim to their own pride tho, can't bake a cake without breaking the proverbial eggs i suppose
