I.e. you can't drive your car at 200MPh - that is to say, you can. But it's against the law.
It's perfectly legal to drive your car at any speed you choose, so long as you do it in a place without a set speed limit.
It's not illegal per se to drive at any speed, it's illegal to drive at certain speeds in certan places.
You can't mod your car with a spoiler that's twice the width of your car - that is to say, you can. But it's against the law. At least driving on public roads with one is.
You got it, it's not legal to drive such a modified car on a public road. There is nothing illegal about making the mod. If you have private property that you can drive it on, you can do pretty much whatever you want.
And, of course, they do this because it turns up an unbelievable number of drivers with stolen cars, outstanding warrants, trunks full of contraband, etc. Or, Timothy McVeigh.
Bullshit. They do it because it generates revenue. If you stop a large number of drivers occasionally you'll find someone who has committed a crime. For the one murder that Sheriff's Lt. Craig McGuire solved, how many hundreds or thousands of motorists had he stopped and searched?
There are areas where speed limits are set artificially low so that police can catch a large number of speeders. As much as they claim otherwise, the state WANTS you to speed. The state NEEDS people to drive drunk. Once again it's about money, the change of the standard for DUI from.10 to.08 is to catch more borderline people in the net so that the state can bleed more money from them.
The Mac mini is not marketed by Apple as a server.
Of course it isn't marketed as a server. Apple would much rather sell an XServe than a Mini.
I go back a long way, I used to use a workgroup server 8150! You know what? The Mini smokes its ass. For many kinds of server applications, the Mini would be fantastic.
The Mac mini is (and will always be) an entry-level Macintosh for the Macintosh curious who were previously turned off by pre-Mac mini computer prices.

I would argue that it doesn't work better, just well. The lighthouse can't help automated navigation systems, it can't display your location on a map, and it can't tell you where you are when there isn't a lighthouse nearby.
No, GPS is the system (US Or EU version) that we already have that works better than a lighthouse based GPS-work a like that someone else here proposed.
GPS can tell you all of those things. If lighthouses are obsolete, fine keep them as historical landmarks. Don't make up asinine pseudo-tech just to pretend that they're still more useful than they are.
That said, it would be a very nice backup system for when a ship's GPS goes out, or for boats that don't have it, and I don't think that getting rid of lighthouses is a good idea.
No, it's stupid to spend money to develop a new system(Lighthouse-mounted GPS transponders) that doesn't work as well as the old one(GPS).
If the primary GPS unit goes out, use the secondary. If you don't have GPS why in the hell would you buy a receiver for an inferior system that has roughly the same cost?
Like I said, they're historical landmarks and should be kept as such, but technology has obviated them.
Drugs give off molecules that anything with a sensitive enough nose can detect. A drug dog need not actually inspect a package full of heroin to smell it.
Have you ever been someplace right after someone just finished smoking weed? Same principle, but dogs can smell much better than we can.
If they want to liken the internet and packet sniffing to drug dogs, any time someone's engages in illicit activity on their computer they would need to drop millions of post it notes declaring somewhere.
This is worse than that. Some people were too sensative when it came to the master/slave deal, but come on now. We're talking about ethereal creatures. Demons may or may not really exist, there's no need to operate as if we all assume that they do.
If the BSD Daemon isn't cute, it's definately less professional. No one wants to associate a product with a hellspawned soul stealer. A "cute" daemon is not threatening.
"this daemon character seems cute from somebody's point of view, but somebody may think which does not suit for the professional products to indicate that are using the FreeBSD inside."
I'm sick and tired of everything in the tech world needing to be made palatable to suits and PHBs.
I realize that complaining about it will be about as effective as trying to hold back the tides with a sheet of plywood, but that doesn't mean that we have to like it or accept it quietly.

Range would be a big issue. From the Clarke band a geo-synch satellite can cover nearly half of the planet. From the top of a lighthouse the range is what? A hundred mile radius?
Radar is common on big boats, but for small personal boats, it would be quite expensive. GPS, on the other hand, is so cheap that almost everybody can afford it.
If you can afford a boat big enough to need it, you can afford a GPS receiver.
I filed with turbotax too- how did you miss the question about how much the check was, complete with the $600 deduction in your running total?
$600? You've got the wrong guy. I ran the numbers twice, once with the check taken into account and once without. My refund was the same both ways.
And you would go directly to jail the moment you tried to use them- counterfieting carries a 15-25 year sentence in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass-prison.
If I tried to produce US Government currency, you'd be right. If I created my own currency, you'd be wrong.
Actually, no- private currencies became illegal back in the 1800s.
There is a difference between banning something and obviating it. The Federal Reserve bank obviated state currencies. There's nothing "illegal" about making your own. Back in the 1940s and before mining towns often were owned by the mining company and the miners were paid in company script, which was a private currency.
Good- that would be a BIG improvement from the current situation- especially if they had to earn a wage.
They won't. They would be given token positions that require no work, and have no duties, they'd just be entries in the company payroll.
Yes they will- but by forcing them to work side-by-side with the laborers, and come in every day, any injustice would be met with swift violent retribution. A BIG improvement on the current situation indeed.
You seem to be creativity-challenged. Anything short of a flat tax will result in people finding ways around the tax code.
As I said before, these would be token positions. They wouldn't actually be jobs.

One is not going to have any luck doing this, though, because there is no PC with a small enough form factor. Not a Mini ITX, not even a Nano ITX.
You could put a cluster of these in a Mac Mini. Not exactly a PC, but it's an Intel board.
