What is the danger of crashing a plane from a laser underneath it?
If you're directly underneath, there isn't much danger. He was not directly underneath the plane. He was able to paint the cockpit window with his laser. The diffusion of light on that window temporarily blinded the captain and copilot.
Wouldn't it require hitting the pilot and the co-pilot in the eye while simulteaneously something goes wrong on the plane that the on board computer can't fix?
No.
Pilots don't do particularly much now adays from what I understand.
They still land the plane, which is what they were doing when this idiot blinded them. They were at approx. 3000 feet as the descended for landing. The autopilot doesn't land the planes. People do.
It would be just as easy to charge him with Reckless Endangerment for each of the people on the plane and all of the people on the ground withing a 2 mile radius.
I'm sure he's prefer a straight 25 years to 2000 consecutive 5 year bids.
This asshole pointed a commercial laser at an airliner. He temporarily blinded the captain and copilot while they were trying to land. When the police sent a helicopter to find the source of the laser, this idiot pointed his laser at the police helicopter. He lied to the FBI and tried to pass the blame on to his child.
This isn't some teenager doing something stupid. This is a 38 year old man who should know better.
25 years and a half million dollar fine does sound pretty harsh to me, but if he had caused that plane to crash it wouldn't seem nearly harsh enough.
My *nix console email app of choice was absent from Mandrake 10.x, I had to get it from PLF because the source wouldn't compile straight away on a plain old Mandrake install.
With that small annoyance, Mandrake is still my distro of choice.
Gee, I can't think of a better way to create a buzz about a product than someone "stealing" your "confidential" plans about it and then "leaking" them onto the internet.
Bravo Samsung PR. Brilliant strategy!

I had to lie once. I had an interview for a federal government job. I was notified of this a week after I started a new job. I was still in training. I told my new employer that I had an interview for a "night job", it was bullshit of course. Had I been offered the other job I wouldn't even have given two weeks notice.

Way back when I was a Mac user. I remember when MacWorld and MacUser magazines existed to serve different markets. I think it's a common thing with computer related media.
I think it's funny, the music industry went to such lengths to make sure that US consumers never got DAT equipment, but instead they got Napster, Kazaa, and eMule.
I see a lot of RVs in campgrounds with DirecTV. Why not Direcwav while you?re at it?
Because only trained technicians with the proper tools can do it. It's trivial to recieve a beam from a satellite. It's not so to transmit to a satellite.
Imagine trying to hit a specific period on a page of printed text with a laser pointer from a quarter mile away. Now imagine that you can't see the page. You have to rely on the reading of a signal meter to get the job done. Grandma and grandpa's RV isn't the proper platform to set up such a system.
I was exclusively a Mac user from the between the ages of 14 and 21. I used to get MacWarehouse, MacZone, MacConnection and every trial subscription of Mac User and Mac World I could get my hands on. I remember how rare it was for Mac software to get carried at a local computer store.
I Marathon being released 3 months after Doom STILL doesn't ring true to me.
So... anyone got anything interesting to say?
The Warezing may now begin!
I have TightVNC Installed, it lists it as a Moderate Threat.
In the Details, it says that the program is legitimate, but that there is a threat if you don't know it's installed.
Are people actually using VNC for nefarious purposes?

I added plf to my URMPI sources so that I could install pine, but it annoys me that I had to.

In the event of poor visability or bad weather, pilots use their instruments to land their planes.
A blinded pilon can't use instruments.

IMHO, Mandrake is going after the market that Red Hat thinks it owns.
6-7 years ago Mandrake went after Red Hat's desktop and small personal server market, now they're after the big iron.
Hopefully they get it. And hopefully they don't forget about us little guys too.

Sort of, a PDA wouldn't have a special purpose DSPs designed for VOIP applications.
You could do it in software, but not as efficiently as if the work was done in hardware.
