  1. My ideal coding state. on Finding a Personal Coding Trifecta · · Score: 1

It takes place starting at about 45 minutes after the end of my lunch break. My blood sugar is high and I'm at my desk with a cup of hot coffee, a cup of ice cold Mountain Dew and a small package of cookies. This can last anywhere from one to three hours. The period ends when I need to take my afternoon poop break. I write larger volumes of code and higher quality code when I'm in my zone.

If you must put together hardware that will survive without those kids of things, you will have to make compromises. A machine from 1986 worked just fine up until I gave it away in like 2004. I also remember those summer 2000 iMacs, those things were blowing analog/power boards like popcorn. Apple was pretty good about fixing them, but every once in a while Apple makes a piece of crap too.

I still have a couple of 6100s that still work just fine. These are what, 16 or so years old? Those old machines were alot simpler. They produced less heat so the fans didn't need to spin as fast. Slower fans are longer lived fans.
