Odd, consitering I've never seen anyone have a problem finding rehab or medical care during their time on crack.
I'm not saying this to be combative, I have had to stand by and watch friends go thru this madness before, and they had no intrest in recovery untill they slammed head first into their own personal bottom of the barrel. When they needed care, they went to the emergancy room and got care... never paid for it though. When they finally got help, it was also free. You misunderstand addiction friend, it's nothing you can really see unless you watch your father literally chain himself to the bathroom in your house because he knows when he comes down he is going to want more crack... so take your snarky comments about my being judgemental and the 'norm' in this society and mind your arrogance.

Regardless though, in referance to the meat of your comment... there WERE safeguards. He was arrested and as I understand it, he escaped. They didn't exactly expect this level of crazy from a paper pusher, which granted maybe they should have. Most of the time the system works, we don't get to hear about the majority of cases where guys DON'T get out and kill their familys, we just hear about it when they do. I don't think that randomly throwing more safeguards at the problem is any business of ours or lawmakers... if more safeguards are needed the people on the ground level... the officers and the facility who he escaped from, should know it. I trust their judgement more then people who have never worked there.
Same to be said of electricity. How well would our society have grown if only the wealthy could have it though?
Imagine that world for me. And where we'd be now. The internet is as valuable to the people of the world as electricity was, connecting and expanding us.
No person should have the right to direct the internet traffic... turning the internet into television would be a terrible thing. Throttle this because we don't like it, ban that because we don't like it... untill finally you are spoonfed information again. I like being free to find out more then what Fox thinks I need to know, I like being able to download music and movies, and I want my children to see the internets potential one day... provided that new idea that will move us forward isn't throttled down to make room for more beer ads
I love this quote, part of it is used in my sig. Here's the full version;
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.

We all know this... and your options are 'Government Control' or 'stfu untill the companys decide to cut their profits'
people whine without direction... if you're going to whine, at least have an end goal in it
It sounds cheesy, but I do. If you were in a cave somewhere with a rock on your leg, and I knew about it, I would be upset and I would want to help you. As such, the fact that you're not starving to death cold and alone makes me happy. This is because I value the lives of all people... because I'm not a crazy ass sociopath.
But with all things, ballence. If you were hungry on the street because you spent your last $5 on another hit of crack, I wouldn't give a damn... in fact I might laugh at you.
As such I can't give a damn that he's dead. He was a person who didn't give a damn about the safety, security, or privacy of anyone he didn't know personally. Him offing himself saves money on prisons and food. However, that he took the lives of his family... that is the real loss.
Seriously, do people thrive on having enemys? Do they find no happyness simply in a group being what they are? Protip; "The Man" isn't out to get you, and all the companys aren't working for him.
And shall we stop using every service out there, because somewhere, deep down in their closet, is something we disagree with?
If so, I'm going to assume you're posting to/. from your wooden cottage on a privatly owned island that you found... how you're on the internet though is beyond me.
Frankly, I don't care. Yes, they should have known better, but their products (Google, GoogleMaps, Gmail, ect) are damn good. The very thing I love about them is their drive to cataloge all of the worlds information and present it to the world. The fact that I can go into google map, find a resurant, and then go to street level view to scout around for a parking garage... or that I can see a chart of what was searched on the internet when... seeing spikes of intrest.
And how does storing this information in the first place make you question their stupid slogan? They're evil because they don't sit up all night, wild eyed freaking out about the boogie man comming to hunt down your IP? It was information, they stored it. Now that they have a reason NOT to, we'll see if they adjust.
You sir have spent too long nose deep in these things and are posting irrationally...
...and mods... THAT is consitered insiteful?
"exhibiting insight or clear and deep perception"
Read his fearmongering company-phobic post again for me before you down-mod this to hell. Posts like that being taken seriously is part of the crazy rep this site gets from time to time. No, his isn't the only one, but ffs...
'Gov't has tried to take our IPs before, google shoulda knowed so dat meanz they waz just save'n dem to give dem to da gov't so they can take my hat!!'
The interenet has a lot of enemys, google however isn't one of them.
Yeah, I agree its not difficult... hell, records of how to make everything from gunpowder up is avalible... my biggest question is how often this is really done. I'd be surprised to see improvised guns being common outside of prison with their avaliblity.
And yes, there certainly are plenty of 'ghetto gunsmiths' out there; the equipment requirements to build a gun from scratch are hardly a huge limitation compared to the knowledge requirement, nor are there any truly restrictive limitations on the sale of gun parts alone
I'd love to see some stats on that, very interesting actually. As well as a ratio to how those types of guns are dispersed/used.
In reference to my own post, sm62704 is right that it was ment as a joke in that they 'have to come from somewhere'. I'm pretty neutral on this topic myself... I don't want one, but don't care if other people do. My common issue with guns is 'gun assholes' who horde 100's of them, or people who seem to think mentioning over and over they have a gun makes anyone scared/respectfull of their douchebag asses. I like Gun Owners. Good upstanding americans as a whole.
Hate to reply to my own, but a special note here: If you have more data, post the source! You're on the internet, there is no excuse for asking someone to take you on your word. This isn't the playground, bullying somoene to your opinion doesn't work. Data, Facts, Statistics... Information is our currency here.
I'm happy to change my views on the world (as noted in the first post with the suicide thing), but not on someones opinion.
In 2006, about 68% of all murders, 42% of all robberies, and 22% of all aggravated assaults that were reported to the police were committed with a firearm.
Roughly 400,000 crimes total
Homicide: 11,624 / 39% of All Fatalities
Suicide: 16,750 / 57% of All Fatalities
Unintentional Death (Accidental): 649 / 2% of All Fatalities
How Are Victims Injured?
Assault Injury: 43,592 / 68% of All Injuries
Unsuccessful Suicide Attempt: 3,352 (may be incorrect -- actual number may be larger, see CDC website) / 5% of All Injuries
Accidental Injury: 16,555 / 26% of All Injuries
I'm not really taking either side with this post, I'm just sick of unsupported facts being thrown around. From this data, my own opinion is "Wow, more people kill themselves with guns then other people."
I could care less if you have a gun, though I don't agree you should have enough to equip an army. More then anything, I personally just hate the fact that most people who are really all about having a gun are assholes. Gun owners (actuall good people) should focus their attention on shutting up gun assholes, then both Gun Owners and Non-Gun Owners would stfu about it all.
It means rare. I doubt it's never happened before, it's just a very rare set of events. The size of space (as noted so accuratly in hitchhikers) is big. Really big. That big makes the odds that one rock or the exact size will 'just happen to' hit a young planet of the exact size at the exact direction, while not destabalizing their orbits by increasing the mass.. blah blah... really long odds.
and to add life to that, add the odds that this planet is in the 'livable zone'... add to this the odds that it contains the right materials... add to this the odds that the right chemicals are accessable in just the right places at the right times... add to this that all of that happens at the right time in the planets life... add to that few enough asteroid strikes to prevent obliterating it every few thousand years (Jupiter saves our asses on this)... add to that a bit of luck.
Another effect of the 'really big' portion is that we have a nearly limitless number of chances for this ultra rare occurance to happen.
Of course, to us it seems like it has to happen all the time... I mean hell, we're sitting right here watching it!... but the 99.999~% of planets who were just off the mark will never talk to us about how they see the odds differently.
However, you're not factoring in F, the number of additional guilty that are taken in due to the widened criteria.
And also, by your math, it is best to free everyone to remove any chance of the innocent going to jail. Who knows, that confessed serial killer might have been covering for the real killer.

Lets get that passed into law.
OH WAIT A MINUTE, haha, my bad. Yeah, you see the problem here? I'm sure this is right in line after their next pay cut.

You can say you heard it here first.
This game just died.
Release is everything to an MMO, and any idiot company (imagine EA being involved... noooooo) would know that looking at historys and dead games.
This game won't last a year. It's a shame too... I'd be pissed if it was my lifes work that was being spit on by schedualing monkeys.

yes, most people who pull a gun to rob a store aren't gun owners.
Wonder who they got them from though, I know of few ghetto gun-smiths

That book killed my ability to forgive the stupid and the lazy who gave forth no effort to improve.
Well spoken.

Try stating that when you're the one raped and murdered.
Though the idea of sending a guy in a suit over on a horse with a scroll is cute, we're trying to save a bit of time/effort/money now days.
I'm sure Paul Revere would have just phoned it in if he'd have had the option. Times change
I 100% disagree with you... CRAP!
bah, yeah. Thank you for the correction. Shouldn't type and talk to people at the same time.
