Jobs is a perfectionist, I think, before he is a capitalist.
I don't see how he can't be both - a good capitalist can work in perfecting his money-making 'machine' without going for market share. If market shares meant everything, how would companies like B&O survive?
Likewise, they charge more for their products which are not necessarily of a superior grade but made in great quality and with good service and user friendliness.
You must mistake me for someone who lives in a country with even less privacy than the one that I *actually* live in.
Then again, the US acts as if it owns the world anyway.
I have a 250 gigabytes encrypted volume that I access all the time - increasing encryption level means more processor intensive disk operations.
Of course, there's always a tradeoff when encrypting, but moving up to 2048 bit encryption is *a lot* of difference, performance-wise.
Right now they license per processor and I believe there was a story a few days ago abou them maybe moving to per virtual processor in these situations.
I have a 15.4" ASUS (Insert plug for Great Service here) which I hardly ever bring with me - the primary reason I bought a laptop was that I don't have much room in my apartment, plus I like a computer that I can just pick up and watch a movie on in my bed (Don't ask "What kind of movie?", it'll only scar you for life).
On the other hand, I really love not breaking my back, too. That's why I'm eyeballing an Apple 12" Powerbook at the moment and doing my damned best not to buy it on credit...
That is why I thoroughly recommend Asus. My lappy 786 broke down, and I just called them. They picked it up, flew it to Belgium (I live in Denmark), and a week later, it was back, with the broken parts repaired. Apart from the lawful two year limited warranty we have here, I purchased an extra two years warranty for it. Great service with Asus, even if I'm considering moving to Apple.
Det er jo fordi vi tævede anglerne omkring sidste årtusindeskifte...
The ancient Norse tongue actually had a lot of effect on the English language; many one- or two-syllable words have directly evolved from Norse. A good example would be 'sky', which is descended from the same Norse word for cloud.
Have you ever even looked at the 'Submit Story' page? When you submit a story, you can choose whether or not your name/handle should link anywhere, and if so; where.
1. Create folder 2. Stuff links into folder 3. Right click start bar, left click "Tool bars", "New tool bar" 4. Right click start bar and make sure "Lock tool bar" is not checked 5. Left click and drag new toolbar from Start menu to the left hand side of the screen. You could even float it if you like. HTH.

Well, it is named after a main ingredient in one of the most popular french drinks...
You surf at -1 for this? Hardly worth the time it takes to skim.
Actually, in sparsely populated areas (like my home town in Greenland), the WW imagery is better than Google's.

Maybe he should try reading the TOS before he agrees to them.
I'll have to remember that one...

I have a 1.6 Ghz WXP box. I would love to have a 19 second boot time...
No, but don't complain that they pulled a dupe, otherwise they might think twice about it next time...
A comment that is quite actually relevant, unbiased (as it consists mostly of a quote) and is very much applaudable. We need more of this on slashdot.
They're pairing it off with Quake4, so you might not be completely off...
Yes, because historically speaking, Wired articles are extremely short and sparse on information. That's why they'd use the same quotes.

They had Inktomy for a while, too, but I believe that Yahoo used Altavista for years.

twice shy?
(I hope I don't dupe myself; when I tried to post this a minute ago, I just got a non-message from comments.pl - odd)

... Cuba!
That would be my old chem teacher. He wrote a paper on how to make cleaner metamphetamines with fewer side effects.
Damns! My mod points just lost validity a few hours ago!
Very subtle, good one.

They're actually rolling it out for the Duke Nukem launch, so it can't be that far off...
