At the very least, they want you to take advantage of multi-player gaming but most likely they also want you to take advantage of the non-gaming aspects of the console.

I'd speculate that the real reason is more about DRM. It's about moving the users' perception of the games to being a service that they buy/rent, not an object that they buy and can resell/lend to somebody else like they can with a CD or a book. That way, Microsoft can sell more stuff.
To be frank, I think they're pretty much saying that if you don't have a reliable internet service, they don't want you as a customer. Pretty arrogant I agree but I think that's along the right lines.
The problem in Greece seems to be an artificial scarcity of money imposed by the EU central bank and the IMF. The solution is to get out of the EU and stimulate individuals to innovate with a basic income, and challenges.

go visit a distillery in the Scottish Highlands, and ask them what makes their product different from the distillery on the next hill. They will talk about their water. Every distiller will go on and on about the local water supply, and how there is no place else in the world where one could replicate that exact flavor.
The honest ones talk about what the ageing barrels were used for before they put whisky in them e.g. port, wine, sherry etc, how many times they reuse the barrel and if they blowtorch the inside to get some charcoal to improve the colour.

They all connect to the wireless network and then my nephew runs up the Minecraft server on his parents' main PC. Cost: 0, complexity: very low. Alternatively, he enables port forwarding on the firewall and they don't even need to come over. Cost: 0, complexity: quite low.
I can't see how a reduced featured version of the game on an underpowered (for gaming) platform is going to improve his Minecraft experience in any way.
