That there's a market for tax software in the USA.
Are there other countries where such software would be worth it?
In the country I live in the income tax system seems simple enough that anyone who is too stupid to figure it out is unlikely to be making enough money to fall in the taxable bracket.
Not much difference in Iraq - everyone knows where the US soldiers are already.
On a related note, I think dogs would be able to detect if US soldiers are around and distinguish them from the local Iraqis. Fortunately most muslims won't want to be close to dogs.
Whatever the Japanese are doing, they have long life expectancies despite 50% of the males smoking (was 80% in the 80s!), working long hours and drinking lots of beer... The females live even longer.
Given most developed countries are worried about aging populations, perhaps they shouldn't be so upset if people insist on smoking and killing themselves earlier.
Maybe we should thank them for their sacrifice for the greater good and all that.
All you need to know is where the shot was _relative_ to the group of soldiers carrying the mikes.
Assuming you are using radio communications (e.g. UWB) to share information, you can figure out where each soldier is relative to the other soldiers. With some UWB radars you can detect people through walls, rubble because when they breathe their chest moves in and out.
Even though light doesn't travel that fast, it travels a lot faster than sound, so it'll be good enough.
If the soldiers are stationary you get more accurate readings. If the soldiers are moving, it's harder for the sniper to hit them.
The difference between bird flu and the asteroid/gamma ray stuff, is we are currently more likely to be able to do something about bird flu AND there appears to be popular willingness to try.
I would personally be happier if people _also_ came up with something workable vs the asteroid/comet problem, but most people don't seem interested anyway.
There's nothing much we can do about the gamma ray problem.
Yes it's not all about money. But most women don't like engineering/IT[1]. So why keep trying to get women to do jobs they aren't interested in?
There are plenty of other decent jobs for them.
[1] There's nothing really preventing women from doing engineering/IT (in 1st world countries) - lots of poor people around the world manage to get into engineering/IT (especially for IT), so the lack of women is mainly due to the lack of interest.
I'll ask them what they have built/done recently. Especially "just for fun".
If you want a full time artist job, I'd prefer you to have created some art fairly recently. If you want a full time programming job, I'd prefer you to have written something fairly recently. If you want a full time engineering job, I'd prefer you to have thought of some cool project or maybe even implemented it.
As for degrees, certs etc. It's just to see whether you lied or not.
Except for crappy certs like the MCSE. If you have an MCSE and list it, it counts against you;). It's like being willing to pay money to get a cert saying you know how to reinstall Windows AND actually being proud of it.
"Stockholm just seems too easy or too simple of an explanation."
Why? It happens all the time.
The whole US gets told tales of terror and get exploited by Bush, then they actually reelect him and continue their usual lives playing video games, watching TV etc.
Most US people will tell you that they are mostly free and have plenty of access to the outside world.
What they did: _consensual_ oral sex. What Georgia Supreme Court confirmed it was: aggravated child molestation. What he gets: 10 years, plus probably being classed as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Yeah I normally write in Perl and try picking up Lisp every now and then (coz it's great and all that).
My conclusion? I'm too lazy and stupid. I'll stick to using prefab (CPAN) to build stuff quickly. There's not enough decent Lisp "prefab" out there.
Sure Lisp makes it easy to parse and generate code, but I still have to write THAT code.
Whereas with Perl, I can do stuff like:
use DBI; # prefab for database use Net::DHCP::Packet; # prefab for parsing DHCP packets use Net::RawIP; # For sending DHCP packets out use Socket::MsgHdr; #For figuring out which interface the packets came in from...
The great thing about that is, if a decent Perl programmer comes along, they'll figure out the prefab bits rapidly, and they can then focus on the mess that is my code - which fortunately is relatively short because of all the prefab I used.
Someone else has done the work of documenting and explaining the prefab (which is why I'm using it). The more decent prefab I can use the better.
There's plenty of real-life evidence backing my claims.
Marx didn't condone violence? Wasn't he the one who jointly wrote with Engels "The Communist Manifesto" (sounds familiar?), which near the ending had something to the effect of:
"The Communists disdain to conceal their views and aims. They openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions. Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communistic revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win." ( Source: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/61/61.txt Alternate version: http://www.anu.edu.au/polsci/marx/classics/manifes to.html )
And there's also the suggestive bit earlier which goes: "and where the violent overthrow of the bourgeoisie lays the foundation for the sway of the proletariat.".
Maybe you should read more Marx yourself. Or are you going to get even more delusional and claim Marx didn't write that, or claim that isn't condoning violence.
If you want to be pedantic or nitpicky, sure it isn't communism itself that is the precursor, it's Marx's proposed violence-friendly Communism Implementation Plan that's the precursor. But that's a bit more wordy - and the rest of my original post explained the details anyway.
Basically the violent will just hijack "Marxism Phase 1" to take over the country.
AKA: "Stupid/violent people of the country unite!" and help a Dictator get into power.
Now if people actually democratically elected a peaceful Communist Gov things could be different, HOWEVER the problem is Communism has already been tainted with violence because of Marx - too many communists would be thinking "violence = OK, not even last resort". So it is probably better to just do a "rewrite", exclude the violence and call it something else.
This is because Marx had this stupid idea of condoning or even encouraging violence as the way to achieve Communism.
So when you have a "Communist" Revolution ala Marx, guess who ends up becoming leader of the country?
The one who was willing AND able to exert the most violence.
Yeah, that's right, most of the time you get Mr "Silence all Opposition".
Marx's Communism is severely flawed because of this.
You basically have to wait till you get taken over by a Benevolent Dictator, or the Evil Dictator hands power to nondictators, or Mr Dictator has a change of heart.
So what O/S do you use if not Linux?
For windows if someone sticks in a CD into the CDROM drive often bad things happen to "real time".
That said, I've had lots more problems with Linux sound than with Windows. Apps not being able to play sounds at the same time etc.
But if I had to choose between a Linus-approved Linux kernel or say Redhat/Suse's Linux kernel, I'd go for the latter.

Italians?
How about the Japanese?

And then there's "the smell of napalm in the morning".
I'm sure that gets a lot of people going...
And if you're not going, you're gone...
Mod parent up.
When I was deciding on which music keyboard to buy I downloaded the online manuals and compared them.
I also searched forums and newsgroups for comments on them.
No regrets over my purchase (Casio WK3500 - was good bang for buck).
Sometimes if you don't get bad reviews it means nobody bought them, and all the good reviews are astroturf...
I think he forgot the Invulnerability powerup.
Or the mega armor and mega health.
Would be nice to have those instant healthpacks too - go from 1% to 100% health immediately.

Just a note: Polio is not eradicated yet. And may even be making a comeback due to stupid countries like Nigeria.

"Or the guy that listened to the American people screaming for vengence after 9/11 and actually did something about it?"
So if Neighbour A attacks your house, you scream for vengeance and attack Neighbour B instead?
And you wonder why your neighbours are looking at you strangely or even saying bad things about you, when previously they supported you.
stupid_american_count++;
If you can justify attacking Iraq for 9/11, you can justify attacking England as well.
Same for guys and girls:

But if you are an MVP that counts for something.
Coz girls are smarter than guys?
;).
They pick jobs that can't easily be outsourced to India
I definitely see more ladies going in Law, Medicine, Accounting/Finance than Engineering or IT.
These jobs pay pretty well.
With all this, why bother encouraging uninterested women to go into IT?
There's no great scarcity, so it's a waste of resources. Better for them to do something else.
Why not encourage more men to do Nursing? Stronger = easier to carry/move patients around etc.
"They would feel loyal to their captors, and even believe that they are acting in their best interests."
;).
:p
Heh. Do you mean Republicans or Democrats? Or both
Stay home and watch Fox News, MTV, play video games, don't go to school, get to drive big trucks etc.
Once in a while a figure of authority terrorizes them.
Meanwhile the door to the outside world is wide open but unused.
Yeah I definitely believe it can happen...

Sounds pretty similar to me
Yeah, right.
Not in Georgia I hear.

It's still not really theft.
It's plagiarism (a category of dishonesty). If money is involved, then you might call it fraud too in some cases.
If they say "oops we didn't know"[1], and make reasonable amends then I'd consider it fine.
