I disagree that scale is or should be a deciding factor. For instance a cartel of gas stations within a city and a cartel of oil refineries are both equally damaging to consumers and competition within the effected city. Both of which would have the hammer of the federal government fall upon them should it come to light.
I think it's a little more than that. Apple is manufacturing their own "high end" status. They are marking up this service and the parts, when comparable (if not identical haven't RFTA) parts and labor are much more cheap elsewhere.
It a common gripe with Apple, they leverage their software to push their price inflated hardware. To me that sounds a lot like what antitrust is designed to thwart.
But hey it's not like they did something awful like preloaded a media player into their OS or something.
..stop offering enormous chances for profit to the most ruthless and violent amongst us by decrimalizing illegal drugs? Education programs and taxation have proven successful for tobacco, why wouldn't the same be true for marijuana?
Two problems jump to mind. First refugees aren't often treat well. See Zimbabwians (sp?) in South Africa. Second people without clean water are rarely in an economic situation which enables picking up and moving.
GOOD, get out of my vocation. Go flood the nursing schools or whatever is the flavor of the week profession at the moment.
Now if we can get around to clearing up all these Paper Certifications floating around we can really get to business.
I find your lack of, lack of, faith disturbing.
Insurance companies are thieves, they are the one business who's business model relies on not providing the service they promise. Case in point, Insurance Company A takes a beating in the stock market, to raise profits they raise rates on doctors malpractice insurance, then claim that it is because of lawsuits, for you know, malpractice. Insurance Company B is operating beyond their current means, instead of ceasing purchase of mahogany office furniture, use faulty statistics to target people with higher disposable incomes for auto insurance rate increases, (males around 22-28). I'm not saying government control would be better or that it is unfair for people to pay for an other's lifestyle. But if the problem is price of insurance, lets start by being honest why it is so high.
Agreed, to be honest this is just bad marketing by the Japanese government. They are being too honest. If they merely raised everyone's taxes and then offered tax relief to those who stayed below these requirements they would be seen as "helping" their citizens stay healthy.
Side note, the article is being just rabble-rousing by comparing waistlines considering that Americans are so much taller on average than Japanese it makes sense that they would be proportionally larger in waist size.
I have to disagree with this being an act of courage. I imagine we have all had the "escape fantasy", especially the older amongst us, however I would hope that same demographic was pulled back from this by the realization that there are plenty of people that depend on us to varying degrees that would be upset.
To be matter of fact, if this is legit I liken it more to suicide than some brave stance. Personally I see suicide (even lesser degrees of it) as more selfish than brave.
What liberal group is expressing sympathy for China exactly?
I guess the Free Tibet protest rallies where held by San Fran's local Young Republicans chapter.
OTOH credit where credit is due, nice avoidance of invoking Hitler and Nazis to avoid Godwin's Law, even if using Franco as your model Fascist would have been more clever.
Youch somebody got yelled at when the cell phone bill arrived last month

...and a note that says "See being locked into proprietary formats suck doesn't it!"
I was under the impression that a megaton was a unit of measure for explosive force. How do you get megatons of explosive force into an atmosphere?

I can already hear the inappropriate one liner. "Looks like he lost his face for TV" *cue The Who*

And performance artist wonder why they get laughed at?

What use would Communist China have for anti-Trust laws
