I used P2P only couple of times in my life. Neither i did use torrents. Part of the reason is that the speed is too slow, searching is often awkward, it just didin't seem to cut it technologically. Another reason is that P2P downloading implies uploading and as far as i understand to upload stuff is far more dangerous than to download.

Instead i have been using Rapidshare premium for the past two years. For 1€ in a week i get tons of stuff and i get it fast. It isn't like leaving a P2P connection overnight to download a movie. I get 720p content, say 7 GB rips in 20-30 minutes, since my own internet connection is the only bottleneck, rapidshare serves content as fast as i can receive it, so i constantly get around 7-10MB per second. Can P2P compete with this?

Therefore, no one pays for it. It's just there, just like that. Canadian legislators took the advice of an economist like (but not quite like) myself, and with a stroke of a pen, made it free. "

  20. Re:Lies and Lying Liars. on Microsoft Launches New "Get the Facts" Campaign · · Score: 0

I don't like the word "lie", it is too emotional. Since truth is in most cases subjective i see no point in using it that much. I wonder if this example involving your friend that you make is an exception that confirms the rule or just representative. From my experience expensive products are virtually always better than the cheap ones if not for quality per se, then for the service, for the pleasant shopping experience or for status matters. Fortunately with all these internets you can easily go read discerning oppinions like here, or negative product reviews on amazon. I also suggest you try reading peer-reviewed literature for less of what you call lies.

    Mod parent up.

I wish MS would just say: "you know what, EU bureaucrats, you don't like our operating system, so we decided, we won't sell our products in your contries". Several days after the UE economy comes to grinding halt, and probably some of them brusselstards lose their jobs, the rest will be more market economy-friendly and come back begging for forgiveness. I know this won't happen, but think of it as of the "year government doesn't mess in things it has nothing to do with" which is as elusive as your "year of linux desktop."

Disclaimer: i live in Germany and i know how this "for the Common Good(TM)" and "for the Childern(TM)" works, you won't sell it to me.
