....Much better to spend the colossal amount of money on fixing this world....
Uh-huh; I heard that before, way back in 1969, in fact. Did a bang-up job on that, didn't we? . Listen, meathead, before you go parroting crap that was utter drivel 40 years ago, perhaps you should compare NASA'a annual budget against, say, oh maybe the amount of money the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or the U.S. Department of Defense burns through in a WEEK. . Then, please be so kind as to examine the RETURN ON INVESTMENT on those three budgets. . Yeah; we're really 'fixing' this world. . Idiot.
Reminds me of when the KGB used to spend a huge chunk of their resources stealing American technology, then slavishly copying it to the tiniest detail, right down to the manufacturers' logos on the dies.
There's something about Communism that eats home-grown innovation alive. . . .
Back when I was in the military, a lot of our equipment had a special, guarded switch on it, labeled 'Battle Short'. If you flipped that switch on (and you'd better have a damned good reason) all of the equipment's operational safeties were disabled. If it were a power generator, things like oil pressure, load, coolant level, etc, would be ignored. If it were a weapon system . . . . Well, you get the idea: keep operating until either the switch is turned back off or the equipment tears itself apart.
So; Apple's idea is quite unremarkable, at least in one's profession's view.
I take it you've never really taken a good hard look at the crop of politicians currently in office. The 'droids have been running the show for quite some time now....
This was nothing more than a simple-minded attack on a handful of public websites containing NO classified data.
The U.S. military follows a rigid security discipline of having separate network for secure ("black") and non-secure ("red") traffic. There is NO PHYSICAL CONNECTION between these networks, and there is NO connection between the black networks and the Internet.
This article was right up there with Swine Flu II: Pure sensationalism.
Cops and prisons exist for a set of very real reasons. Applying technical 'fixes' to what is a criminal enterprise is like busting your ass building ever higher and ever thicker walls around your house: If you don't deal with the root of the problem, the criminals themselves, all you're doing is delaying the inevitable.
Everybody up to this point has been engrossed in spending all this time and money building ever higher and ever futile walls, ceding the world of the Internet to the criminals while we try to make our tiny little pieces of turf 'safe.'
Personally, I think it's time we took the Internet back.
It's also Bill's "fault" that Windows enjoyed a 95% market share for a decade.
I must disagree. It was not Bill who made a shoddily written excuse for an OS the dominant player in the market, but rather the boggling level of ignorance on the part of the overwhelming majority of said market as to what an acceptable OS should be, and Microsoft's exploitation of that fact.
There has always been a grim joke among IT personnel that while the sales personnel from IBM, Novell, Sun, etc., are talking to the IT manager, the Microsoft salesman is playing a round of golf with the CEO. A grim joke, because it's true.
The type of plans necessary to create a functioning implosion device are state-held secrets and have only been seen by a select few with Top Secret clearance....
Um, actually, a Top Secret clearance isn't high enough to get access to stuff like that.
...when the Soviets threw in the towel. Immediately, all the Congress-critters started chanting "Peace Dividend!" (Translation: "We're going to cannibalize the Defense and Intelligence budgets to fund our pork-barrel projects!"). As a result, the budgets of both Defense and Intel were trimmed, and a lot of pros were either cut or forced into early retirement.
As a result of that, by the late 90's the U.S. found itself dangerously understaffed, particularly in both the Intelligence and Counterintelligence/Security fields.
Then 9/11/2001 rolled around; a tour-de-force of failures in both Intel and Security, surprise-surprise. After that, one would have thought that even dimwits like you would have finally gotten a clue, but I guess that was just too much to hope for.
"Four legs good! Two legs bad! Four legs good! Two legs bad!"
"Security good! Freedom bad! Security good! Freedom bad!"

Idiot.
....Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

...and someone uses one of those hammers to beat someone else to death, does that make the manufacturer evil?
Stop blaming the tools, you morons, and put the blame where it belongs: on those who decide to abuse those tools for their own, evil ends.

ACK. Military personnel have a completely different mindset than law enforcement, as theirs is a completely different job.
If there's a sniper on a rooftop, law enforcement would evacuate the area, empty the building, bring in a negotiator, SWAT, etc, etc.....
The military would remove the rooftop.

'Nuff said.
COLLISION DOMAIN.
What pickle-brain thinks these kinds of things up?

a) Racist
b) Fascist
c) Something-else-ist
d) A Right-Wing Conspiracy

f) "USA SUCKS!"
e) All of the above.
Ho-hum....

It should.

....And do what with the prisoners?
I hate to bring up one little, carefully glossed-over fact, Pollyanna, but some of Gitmo's inmates are hardcore mass-murderers.
What do you do with them? Put a bullet in the backs of their heads? Ship them home? Turn them loose?
Curious minds would like to know....

With this country, it's always one "Task Force Smith" right after another, and no-one ever learns.

Expect to see this kind of thing for at least the next 100 days.
"Attention. Attention. Cold, hard reality will resume in T-minus 98 days, and counting...."
