Just like CDs they are still popular and relevant. I'm personally not too excited about BD and seems the market is equally not excited. It took the now cheaper more ubiquitous USB flash to kill floppy disks. I remember them still being in fashion 5 years ago. And it will be long before a USB flash becomes a metaphor for saving.
Wine since 1.1.14 is able of running IE7. You'll need a whole lot of hacks to make it work. Better just grab the latest PlayOnLinux as it has a script that will automate everything for you. I personally tested it, it works but crashes randomly and generally sluggish. Pretty much as it is in Windows. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4195
Konqueror 4.2 gives me the choice to switch between KHTML and WebKit. KDE hasn't and probably wont abandon KHTML, but they are sure using WebKit, for example in Plasma (Widget Engine). This allows me to use OS X Dashboard widgets in KDE.
Firefox on GNU/Linux leaks memory like there's no tomorrow, something I've never noticed with it on Windows. By leaks I mean huge leaks, at some point Fx 3 gallops +300MB, especially if left overnight. Konqueror by no means a lightweight browser, but at least in my experience it doesn't leak memory endlessly, memory consumption usually peaks at around 100MB. Konqueror does have quirks and issues, the UI feels sluggish and at times stop responding for a couple of seconds, but I did notice improvements going from 4.0 to 4.1 to 4.2. Site compatibility is a complain of mine, thankfully most sites I visit Konqueror has no problem with. Konqueror 4.2 allows me to switch between KHTML and WebKit without restarting it. Currently, the version of WebKit included is a bit behind, but that should change with Qt 4.5, I think... In short all browsers suck, Konqueror though uses less memory. I can't wait for Google Chrome!
I never use my real name, or official email when blogging or posting on forums. I never ever posted my pic or anything that can identify me online. I don't socialize online. In fact, most of the time I never use the same user id or email. So no one can track me from forum to forum, or from blog to blog. Some emails I create are just for forums and blogs registration, never for anything official. Basically typing in my real name or any of my aliases will return random (little to none) results not related to me at all!
Why not just do one version and add backward compatibility via virtualization? Ship, or make freely available, VMs for all major versions of Windows. This 'll help them cut the cruft from newer versions of Windows while offering BC for who need them.
The UI on Windows is crap, on OS X it is much better but still spartan. That's though not what I meant by good. I was mainly referring to Safari's rendering engine (WebKit) being much more better than Trident. The 2nd line should have made it more obvious.
MS is in an odd situation. Why don't they instead consider, at least in Europe, dropping IE and replacing it with something more standards complaint. Bundling Opera would sure make some people ecstatic.
Safari is good! IE is bad! Get with the program. I wouldn't mind IE dominating if it were standards complaint and had competitive HTML and JavaScript performance, but it doesn't and thus it is holding back the web.
At a time where our economy is taking a beating we should be glad that someone is willing to buy our stuff, even if they are crappy and actually made in China.

I prefer w3m myself!

Except that, like with Joe the Plumber, the government will tax you and destroy your American Plumbing Dream.

They did compare it to Fx 3.1

Hate Apple all you want, at least when it comes to the web they care about standards.
How is the iPhone even supposed to compete with something that doesn't exist yet!
Apple should just declare defeat!
open source is communism.

They can bundle Avant, Enigma, Maxthon and other crappy Trident-shells.
Lynx, ELinks and w3m are more standards complaint that IE can ever be!

Not true!
It tests standards that most sites wont use because they aren't supported by IE, if they were they'll find more use.
