    You may be lucky, it looks like relief is on the way for Alzheimer's patients. Bapineuzmab is about to enter phase III trials. It is an anti-body which attacks beta-amyloid which is thought to be the cause of Alzheimer's. Entering phase II trials is a vaccine which also attack beta-amyloid. Both are being produced by an Irish pharmaceutical company, Elan, is partnership with Wyeth.

    and that's it. Fermilab has nothing scheduled past then, and will have passed the torch to the LHC. I admit it, I am biased, having worked at Fermilab, but I find this to be tragic. Nowhere else have I had the opportunity to work with such an incredible group of people. Closing Fermilab will be an incredible loss to this country. I can only hope that the International Linear Collider will be built, and will be built at Fermilab. Time will tell.

    Congratulations to the folks at DZero on yet another fine piece of work!

    Normally, I would agree with you, but in this case I suspect that the cable company is the culprit. They have been fighting Cable Card every step of the way. What better way to get rid of Cable Card than to demonstrate it doesn't work?

    While many top people set their sites on the LHC, a core of dedicated scientists have stuck by their guns and continued their research at Fermilab. Now they may be having the last laugh.

    Commendations for their dedication and hard work!!!

    Maybe someone can convince our politicians to continue work at Fermilab instead of shutting it down in the near future.

    After years of driving the programming profession to its least common denominator, and eliminating anything that was considered non-essential, somebody is surprised that current professionals are not elastic enough to quickly adapt to a changing environment in hardware. Whoda thunk it? The ones, you may have left, with some skills are nearing retirement.

    When repairing some of the main computing systems, at Fermilab, I would joke that I needed a rubber chicken to repair the problem quickly, otherwise it would take a few hours. The one Christmas, one of the Ops staff bought me a pair of them. From then on, the joke was, when called at 3AM in the morning, did I have my chickens handy?

    He has the most technical experience ( Former head of the Department of Energy ), the most foreign policy experience ( Former diplomat to the UN ), and an open mind. He supports medical use of marijuana. Most of all, he seems to be an honest guy. Too many candidates seem to have a facade formed by their political handlers, Bill just appears to be who he is. And finally, he is the only candidate I have drunken a beer with, and that seals it!

    People are interested in Solaris technology such as DTrace, which lets administrators peer deeply into running software to uncover performance bottlenecks, and ZFS, file system software designed to make storage systems more reliable and easier to manage. But good luck to Linux fans trying to kick the tires.


    FreeBSD current has ZFS and DTrace now! Why wait? Run, don't walk, to your nearest FreeBSD dealer ( ftp.freebsd.org ). Let's face it, Sun just hasn't been the same since AT&T strong-armed them away from BSD into the void of System V.
