    Remember also that when you polish, do so in a non-concentric fashion, so that even if you do hose the data, the error correcting code on the ajacent spiral will have a chance to correct any errors.

    The problem that I see is when stores stop selling the 15+/18+/21+/whatever rated games as a company policy to "appear" more "family friendly". The the game could become unobtainable. True, other stores could stock the game, but that assumes that if is a free and open economy where computer games stores can come and go easily. The real-world's not like that, and there are significant barriers to trade. So that leaves mail-order.

    The end result - involuntary censorship, and pushing games "underground".

    Another solution to the problem is to not use labelling, but to rather use community websites to review and rate games.
    Oh wait - that's what we have already.

    Even excluding Hybird systems, Linux = 415, Solaris = 2.

    Also given that 1 of the systems is SPARC, I would say that there is only a single Solaris x86/x64 system.

    Is the era of massive vertical systems over?

    Sure the telephone system also belongs "to the man", is primarily used for work, and "could" be used for "terrorism".

    Oh, that's right - there's laws against illicit interception.

    Same goes for email, where there is a presumption of privacy.

    WiFi in Oz is charged at exorbitant rates ($15/hr). Starbucks has got Telstra to put in the WiFi infrastructure. Telstra is the incumbant ex-public telco.

    In Melbourne where I live I can name one free WiFi _location_ which is a food court.

    With the advent of HSDPA/3G (Telstra call it NextG), I can see WiFi NEVER taking off. (Why be limited to 50m radius of a hotspot when you cal roam all throughout the capital city)?

    Whilst Apple seems to be gearing up for the Next Big Thing, it would be good to get the existing iPhone in Australia, UK, etc...

    Or are Apple going to simultaneously release in all regions.

    Somehow I think that the kind of customers who are going to be running 16 cpu systems are
    definitely going to have Sun Spectrum support.

    If Sun comes across a server that's licensed for fewer CPUs then it has, I guess it would be justified in refusing to support the machine anymore.

    Sun are a bit careful about noting which system board serial numbers are in which machine.
