Steve jobs has said It starts with the music and ends with the music. The interesting thing is, if it's really about the MUSIC doesn't that mean it's also about the artists? I personally know an artist that has stated they make only $0.01 per song sold on the iTMS. His last months check entailed less than $1.00 from songs sold on the iTMS. $1.00 per month for a whole year doesn't add up to much.

If this becomes more and more popular and radio stations play less and less commercial music, these "professional musicians" will end up even more broke than they already are. Radio play is the bulk of the artists paychecks.

Could you imagine if Microsoft enjoys the PowerPC platform so much that they end up porting Windows to the MORE STABLE PowerPC platform? I mean they're going to have to port their APIs and such to make this sort of move easy for the developers anyway. This would enable consumers to buy any random intel box or buy a nice IBM Box. This would rekindle the love/hate relationship that DOS encouraged. IBM would sell the machines, microsoft would supply the OS. Most of the intel systems IBM sells are for Linux these days. The PowerPC systems run AIX. IBM has been phasing out Microsoft as much as possible. But if microsoft would embrace the PowerPC platform and promote sales of IBM's more expensive hardware, I'm sure IBM would be on that band wagon.

I personally thought it looked horrible and was very unfunctional. The lists aren't in any particular order when you browse by genre. The interface is pretty much a nightmare. It looks like it was put together by a bunch of monkeys on typewriters. I'm glad that Microsoft is so worried about the consumer's having options but for some reason it just seems like Microsoft really doesn't care. I know that is hard to believe, but I don't think there are any plans for Napster to be on MacOSX ever. Strange huh?

You obviously have never owned a mac. The cost savings of a cheap machine running microsoft or linux is not worth the time wasted trying to get things done.
On each system you should do the following. Time how long it takes to take a new computer out of the box, configure it the way you like it, patch it, dump DV footage to it, edit it, burn it to DVD. Once both are done, compare the quality of the finished project which was done on each system and compare the times.
The mac will be a few hours of time with $0 extra spent for the software, and the system comes with a free DVD actually. The PC will be maybe close to 12 hours of time spent, cost you an extra $300 - $1000 for software. The mac finished project will look about 300 times more professional.

Got anyone who can do math on that statement? If it's not 5x5 to power the whole nation, how much would 5x5 mile field power? 1/2 nation? that's still pretty damn good. We could throw three 5x5 blocks up... one east cost somewhere, one central, one west coast (nevada) ..
I know of mile blocks here in Arizona that contain AC power equipment and solar panes. I'm sure if there was an effort to make the powergrid all based on solar power, those could be revamped.

I would imagine that getting enough solar panes to feed the power grid wouldn't be the biggest problem. I would imagine the biggest problem would be to have a nations worth of battery power around for a few weeks of 'bad weather' or what not. Right now the power grid is fead 'realtime' from what I understand. If the grid gets hungry, more generators are turned on, if it's FULL it turns some generators to 'low'. I dunno. It kinda' pisses me off that we have set our goals so low these days. I bet the top engineers of the 50's - 60's would be pissed if they found out what has happened to our technology.

If you were old enough to remember 1940-1960 you would imagine that 2004 would look pretty different than it does today. Innovation was happening every hour back then. Companies were not driven by the all mighty dollar. It was driven by "Brand Identity". They would spend millions on something that would be a "loss leader", it would not make back all the money they put into it, but they figured they would get the return on other products. That doesn't happen any more. Every product today is analized by the return on the dividends for the stock holder and what the company needs to do as a whole to keep the CEO in power.

The rate we were going was amazing if you look back historically. These days we're getting "FASTER" processors, but who the hell cares, the GUI's just keep slowing it back down. But to go from a world with no CPU to a world with a CPU is amazing.

I wish we could continue with innovation driven by top engineers like it was in the 60s, not CEOs or budgets.
