    One of the good things about the dot come failures is that there are now many more geeks out there with enough spare time to come up with these cool ideas. One of the downsides is it also gives them the time to come up with odd presentations of their cool ideas.

    Someone in a local school thought it was a brilliant idea to buy a bunch of laptops for a high school class. They started getting "lost" within a week and by the end of the year there were only a couple left.

    Now hold on there, I didn't go out to learn just that much for that reason. It was my horrible grasp of the Spanish language structure in high school Spanish class that would send my instructor into fits of laughter. She would usually say something like "I'll tell you after class what you said".

    I used to say that I knew enough Spanish to get myself slapped by the opposite sex, but instead changed the the prostitute quote to put a more positive spin on the dilemma.

    Lest we forget, the United States has yet to deliver proof to it's own citizens that bin Laden even masterminded the attacks on the World Trade Center.

    Color me flamebait, but right now us US citizens have only been told "We have proof he did it, and that's all you need to know".

    I'm sorry, but there are large groups of people (many Muslims, in fact) who don't accept this as enough proof. He's widely considered to be not sophisticated enough to come up with such an attack on his own.

    Do I know who did it? Of course I do. I have proof, but I won't tell you what that proof is. Just trust me.

    Because AFAIK RTCW collects serial numbers and IP addresses and it's only a game that won't work in multiplayer online (will work single player and maybe on a LAN).

    Microsoft hashes your entire system and it is production software (Office, Windows) that quits working completely if you do not re-register in time.

    The comparison is like comparing your cell phone dying to your artificial heart.

    Thanks to the FBI, a whole new market is now being pushed into exploring the world of alternative operating systems.

    Talk about a boon to the Open Source movement! Show the people (not just the bad guys) that Microsoft's numerous vulnerabilities can be used by Big Brother to monitor them. I can't think of a better way to boost Linux distro sales.

    A local school for "difficult children" was awarded a grant to get these kids all new laptops. The kids then got to learn a valuable lesson about economics via the resale of said laptops to unscrupulous others.

    What is a school going to do with these computers when the teachers aren't trained on how to use them? Is someone going to pay for these classes?

    Instead, invest money into teacher salaries so that they can afford to bring in the better candidates. Considering many parents leave it up to the teachers to essentially raise their kids anyway, we should be paying these folks accordingly.

    Awhile back AOpen came out with a motherboard that was black and the chipset heatsink was gold-plated. Very sharp.

    While many of the motherboards out there are sticking with classic green, there are some that are still using black. AOpen has a line of motherboards that are black with silver, and my favorite Soyotek has a cool black board with purple PCI controllers and yellow RAID connectors. The Dragon can be found here.
