    Imagine an FPS where you start the game first time, walk into an ambush, take a single bullet, and the game is over, with no chance of replay. WTF? Many FPSes require many replays of certain boss battles until you figure out what the winning strategy is (or simply get lucky.) Learning is the key to everything; we learn IRL and we learn in games. Playing this "game" wastes all the learning that you have done in there.

    There's a game like that, it's called "War.

    Again, you missed the GPs point. Not ALL textbooks are going to be useful. There's a lot of terrible texts out there that don't address topics that are useful for everyday use. They might be interesting to some as an intellectual exercise but textbooks should have some component of use or at least interest.

    To seperate the branches? To allow indepedent actions? I don't necessarily agree that the branches of the military are the only ones that should have their own data centers... but it has a *certain* internal logic at least.

    Huh? Do you not understand the point of Pastafarianism? It is to mock religion through demostrating equally ridiculous claims as religions and demanding that they be recognised to be as important as those other claims. No-one actually *believes* in the Flying Spaghetti Monster (no-one sane anyway) and that's the point.

    While expressed poorly, he does have a point. *You* are the one who decided to comment on this thread moaning about how "this is not news". I found the article fascinating and had never considered that amateur astronomy would even exist under these conditions. Yes, people buy goods, make love, school their children in war-zones... but how many of them love science enough to risk getting killed by the local police, warlords, an occupying force and local tribesmen? It's news, deal with it.

    You may think that if there are 36 numbers on a roulette wheel but really there are 37 ("0" again), and oddly enough the casino pays 35 to 1, not 37 to 1. The house ALWAYS wins, even if you gamble smartly.

    37 total numbers is 36 to 1, not 37 to 1.
