    I've been using Bofa online banking for over a year now with Firebird with NO problems except one small CSS issue that appears when setting up a payee in Bill-Pay.

    Instead of complaining about banks that recommend IE, move to BofA and tell your existing bank why you are moving!

    "Blah blah, status quo, what can you do?"... as soon as it hurts their pockets, they'll add Mozilla support.

    Don't just move for the tech though - the BofA system is very well thought out and feature rich and sells itself pretty well. I now pay all my bills through it. It even let's you send payments to individuals (I assume it mails them a check - never used it). I'm now down to writing 4 checks a month, and am hoping to eliminate those soon (I think my wife's going to take a little more coaxing though before she kicks the habit :).

    I still use Real Player 8 (on XP :)

    I get reminded to upgrade every now and then, but as far I'm concerned, this was the last player that was even remotely bearable from Real. And, finally, they've made the page static so it can be linked to (I wonder how long that will last?):

    Don't forget to check out EVERY option on install, and scroll down to see hidden checked checkboxes and other crap. Then go to preferences and Nuke everything. But apart from that, it's not too bad when you've got everything stripped out :)

    Off he goes. Five minutes later he returns saying, "Hmmm, well I'm stumped".

    I've been redirecting Mac IE users to Mozilla for months now - with no complaints (so far :)

    I use the "Flash Click to view" plugin (as others have mentioned). I also find the Nuke Anything plugin essential. Just right click on an image / animation / paragraph / whatever and select "Remove this object". Priceless.

    Contrary to all the dick swinging here on Slashdot- your balls don't get bigger while sitting in front of a computer- they get bigger by experiencing real-world confrontation.

    Perhaps working towards avoiding real-world confrontation would be a more admirable goal? You know, compromise, diplomacy, accepting that others may see the world differently to you?

    Now that could be good training. Deal with the conflict before getting your dicks (sorry, guns) out, hmmm?

    Actually, that's something that freaked me out a bit when I moved to the US from the UK.

    The signature is pretty much ALWAYS checked in the UK. Here, I've NEVER had my signature checked, and only occasionally been asked for ID when using my CC.

    I find it really surprising considering how much fraud goes on.

    In the UK, Debit Cards have been around for quite a while, whilst they still seem a little new here - my wife still writes checks in shops FFS! Buying gas at the pump with NO authentication check worries me a little. I wonder what the fraud rate is on these transactions? At the very least you should have to enter a PIN. And who pays for the fraud? Hmmmmmm

    Ah well, weird shit - wherever you go...

    That's when you start using a database to index your pages, keeping each page just 2 clicks away - enter search term on home page, click result.

    The whole point of these "rules" is to *encourage* good UI design.

    Doesn't mean you have to stick with them rigidly. If you have a deep index structure that could take 10 clicks to navigate (Yahoo! anyone), that's fine. But you can also search for the category and get there in two/three clicks.

    But at least being aware of good UI design - even if you don't use the rules in every instance - will make you a better UI designer.
