  1. Cell Phone Bitch Session? on iPod nano Owners In Screen Scratch Trauma · · Score: 1

I would like to lodge my complaint on my cell phone screen then..as well as my key ring, and hell, as I continue to fish things out of my pocket, I find even my coins are scratches up! WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING IN MY POCKET? It is as if non-uniform metal objects and the close confines of pants pockets don't mix well.

Now, we need to understand that listening to music in your car or through your home stereos is an extra privilege. Normally, people listen to music on your computer. If you are a car or home stereo user, you should consider purchasing a regular CD player.

Awesome point. Think about this too - many new car DVD/Navigation systems have embedded OSes - are they computers? What about high end home theaters? Where is the line for these people?

One day (soon) there will be on-line movie stores and then people will have computers as PVRs in their home theaters - then what?

So no matter how OS X gets on desktops, it is a win for Apple. Paying hardware customer - double win - but any win is a good win when you have 5% of the market and your next biggest competitor has sixteen to eighteen times that!

    - Dedicated iTunes button - check
    - Pause song on phone call - check
    - USB sync - check

It's like Apple made some demands on what the phone must do, and the rest Motorola did. Clearly if Apple was allowed design considerations on this phone, they got nixed in a very intense way. The phone itself is no other than an existing motorola design with iTunes shoehorned in.

Perhaps this is some stop-gap device to satiate the critics until a built-for-iTunes phone can be built.

    I doubt it though.

The real deal will be Apple's take on the Treo devices that will mend the PDA, phone, and of course support multimedia too, all with Apple's great Ink Well technology. But that's another post.

The article sums things up nicely: My initial reactions are reserved, because there's just not that much detail available. Pricing, for instance, would be really nice to know. Will Home Basic Edition debut below the price point of XP Home today? Place your bets. The one thing I will say is that I fear that this may cause a great deal of confusion on behalf of your average consumer. In many cases the CEO is a significant reason to invest in a company - that's why there are such massive stock sell offs or buy ins when leadership changes (look at HP recently as an example or further back to Chrysler, GM, etc).

Such core systems should be able to function with minimal overhead for the very reason that it makes them less vulerable.

But let me answer your question directly, I have seen SQL hang or eat so many system resources while executing a stored proceedure than the process has had to be stopped or the entire system has had to be restarted. The tools MS provides (Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer) have crashed my workstation, and my illusion to the idea that one errant Worm could create havoc if SQL were embedded in the FS is supported by Slashdot article a couple years ago.

MS has worked very hard over many years to errode my confidence. Once upon a time I didn't want to install Norton Utilities because MS didn't make it. Now I won't use MS software in my home. Who's fault is that?

IT JUST IS NOT! Consider how many implementations of home and small business users won't have the benefit of IT support staff. Sure there are implementations of SQL on XP that are stable and blah blah blah, but we deal with SQL crashing in dev or even production environments regularly. Sometimes it is just restarting SQL that does the trick, sometimes it halts the whole server.
