I for one welcome this. If there was anything missing from video games, it was violence. Whatever sucks about gaming now can be fixed with more violence. Sometimes when I look at the news I think that there's not enough violence, so I'm glad that video games in Australia can now fill that gap. For violence, I mean.

You could at least be consistent about it. If you oppose intervention (as I do) then you need to condemn Obama's intervention in Libya. If you support humanitarian intervention then you can't very well condemn GWB for deposing Saddam.

Intervention is a tool in a toolbox. Would you say, "I oppose using hammers in any context. It is better to use a saw at all times."?

So we trust science because it works. Except, we're currently facing a financial crisis, ecological crisis, geological crisis, education crisis, and family crisis. Poverty is rife, the earth is quaking, animals are dying, children aren't learning, divorce is higher than ever, and country after country is rioting against its government.

Religion isn't the answer, but science isn't proven by any means. Einstein said "science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind". I don't really agree with him as I'm not a religious person, but who knows, maybe he was right. He was a pretty smart dude.

You think you're a good person because you live and let live? Because, "what's mine is mine and what's yours is yours"? This doesn't make you a good person. Nature demands that you work on behalf of your society. Working in the service of others is what makes you a good person. If you don't, then you will suffer.

  20. Playing is how we learn on Do Violent Games Hinder Development of Empathy? · · Score: 1

Have you ever seen lion cubs play? We all know from National Geographic that playing is a very important part of their development. It teaches them the skills they will need in life to survive. It also teaches them which skills they will need in life.

The question is, what are the most important skills we can teach our young people? If we think that it is important to know how to fight others in order to survive then violent video games are an important source of education. If we think it's more important to share, care, and so on, then our games should reflect that instead.

The force of the environment has a very strong effect on children. We can see that even though they play violent video games, most of them will not grow up to be violent criminals or soldiers because the force of law in society is stronger than any video game. Aside from this, there's also the forces of family and so on.

  22. Re:That's exactly why not to. on IBM Charged With Bribing Korean, Chinese Officials · · Score: 1

Corruption and bribery are not synonyms. What is business at its heart except bribery?

Bribery has become commonplace with the advent of the 'service fee'. Tell me, what is the difference between a service fee and a bribe? The main difference is that a service fee is legitimised and generally subject to a business process. Though this might give you the impression that it creates a fair system, it doesn't really. Golf course deals happen all the time, it's the way of the world.

I live in Australia where everything has a service fee and where service fees are generally waived when a business has a good relationship with a customer. Our standard of living is quite decent considering everything is so expensive.

Sure, when a government employee is stealing from the people to pad the pockets of private corporations, it's corrupt and should be dealt with accordingly. But a lot of the time the line between corruption, bribery, and business is all too blurry.

As we say in finance: Any sufficently advanced scam is indistinguishable from business.

The nature of this root cause is being revealed on a global scale. You'll know it when you see it.
