Whoosh! That went over my head.

Rowling, I believe is a billionaire. This isn't about money; it's about control. I'm guessing here, but I get the impression that these books mean much more to her than as something that got her out of poverty and made her one of the richest women in the World. Like many creative types, their creation is almost like a one of their children. And I'd be pretty pissed too if someone copied things from me and published them as their own work.

In this day and age of the all in one home entertainment centers and surround sound, I'm sure many folks are using their cable subscription for their music: not pirating and not buying CDs or downloading.

What we all need to understand is regardless of the technology we use, we will always leave some sort of pollution and some sort environmental impact. The answers we should be looking for is how to minimize them; which is stated in the parent's post, and not to discard any technology because it's not perfect. Because if we sit around looking for the no-impact, no-footprint, no environmental harm solution, we'll just sit here burning our fossil fuels eventually doing more harm in the long run than we would ever have done by trying some other technologies.

I'm for a portfolio of changes. Meaning, not one silver bullet (nuclear, wind, solar, geo, tidal, fat people on Stair Masters, etc...), but for the use of all - smartly of course. Just because a technology doesn't make sense now doesn't mean it won't in the future.

That way I can move it to another machine if I wanted to. Blowing hundreds of dollars on a piece of software and have it stuck on one machine is ridiculous. Which brings me to this:

The biggest suspicion is that all this was done to minimize the chance and value of the reselling the game.

It's one thing to install software and then give the license away or sell while still using your installed copy - that's assuming you don't need the CD/DVD in a drive to use it - but, if I don't need the software anymore, what's it to the publisher if I sell it; other than a loss of extra revenue because they couldn't sell another license?

It hurts them more. Because now, I'm much more hesitant to by software. Unless I really need it for some reason, I won't buy because I know that there's no recouping the cost if I should fin that I don't need it in the future. So I make do without or find a F/OSS alternative. I'm not a gamer.

Yeah, there are a couple of folks who've accused the church of some things, but it was maybe one or two people of questionable credibility. There's more against the Mormoms (Church of Latter Day Saints), and recently against the Catholics in the US - which has been dealt with in the legal system, the church has been making changes and the Pope apologized.

And regards to those protesters, I just want to ask what has the Scientologists done to you - personally?

I have never heard anything where the Scientoloists have a policy of hurting people. Sure, they may use some heavy handed legal techniques, but it's within the legal system and apparently those judges involved thought they had grounds. And as far as charging folks hundred of thousands of dollars to get to a level - so what? It's their money. It doesn't harm anyone. There are folks who voluntarily give that much and more to their church, temple, etc...

The Church of Scientology isn't even on my list a problem organization. Some people need to get a grip and need to learn how evaluate things better.
