the thing yourself. Hire somebody with a good web portfolio that you've seen to create a template for you and build from there. It'll cost you money out of pocket but it will save you hours/days of fucking around with the layout. Also, if you're doing this for work, it'll give your work more credibility. CTO's and the like love to have staff decisions validated by an "expert"...;)
Indeed. I do alot of consulting for smaller companies who host their own websites and I do the bulk of my development in PHP and/or Perl. For most, it's a cost issue. They can put that $1500 or so they save in licenses towards development. They just want it to work. They don't care that it's not MS software.
pretty effective comment on the viability of writing (porting) software for the open source crowd. One in-duh-vidual even wondered in an above post if loki would open source their ports. For the love of god! Seems alot of people here like to have it both ways. Better be careful, linux zealots, the market will soon decide for you.
with those that bemoan the dearth of *new* games that actually have a compelling plot and/or gameplay that take advantage of this kick-ass hardware. The last game that I thought was really compelling (that was new) was 7th Guest. That came out years ago. I think it was around that time that Civ II came out as well. Now we're surrounded by FPS and that seems to be about it.
We keep stuff forever. We still have data on 9-track tapes that we used to use on a prime system. Slowly but slowly we're burning it to CD but at the rate we're going, CD will be a legacy format....
cool but it would never work. Real development dollars for the stuff nobody wants to do, marketing muscle to get Linux everywhere. However, it seems to me Redhat would just twist in the wind under AOL's tender mercies and wind up a hopelessly broken company like Netscape appears (at least to me) to be. It's just too "corporate" a switch.
Fat Fucking Chance. If we called the Saudi's this afternoon and said "Hey, King Fahd. Know all of that oil you've got? Well, keep it. We got hydrogen power." You think that would stop the terrorists? No way. This would only force them to find a different premise under which to attack the US.
One point: It is possible for one of your well educated uber citizens to vote along the party line. Those parties represent an ideology. You *can* identify with only part of that ideology and decide that's the party for you. Back to the original point, how much effect did the events depicted in this movie have on your electoral decisions? Outstanding events aside (Vietnam, WWII, Korea, Iran hostages) domestic policy (taxes, environment, etc) decides elections and those are the kinds of issues that I would suspect most people (including myself) choose to educate themselves about. Truly understanding the intricacies of what goes on in every pissant country on the globe would require a lifetime of study. Remember, your uber citizens also have to earn a living.
It's not so much that I don't give a damn but I have to decide what things I need to know about. An incursion into a small African country to rectify yet another famine didn't make my cut. Again, like so many others, I pay my taxes and I trust the Gov't to act humanely and help starving people. Evidently, the "involved" citizenry of Mogadishu felt otherwise.
non-ficton story? Anyways, I take some offense at the "ignorant citizenry" bit. Am I to educate myself on every fucking thing the gov't does? This is a hallmark of American society. We, at least what appears to me to be a large majority, trust our gov't to do the right things. Everyone knows there are dishonest assholes out there that are going to do bad/illegal things but over we trust them to get it right. Like anything else, this goes in cycles - one might consider the cycle from Vietnam to 9/11 to such a cycle. In any event, I just hope the whole movie isn't that same washed-out hue that Saving Private Ryan was...
when I saw the local TV reporter talking about the episode with Lucy Lawless (sp?) and Sculley in a "possible lesbian scene". I haven't watched it since the movie came out but that hardly seems to have mattered.
are the posts saying the MS should be happy as the console is sold at a loss and the games at a profit. I would be very suprised if Microsoft's plans stop at the X-box being a gaming console. While they might not be too peeved by this development as they'll make money on the games, I would bet that this emulator does mess up the overall X-box strategy. Dunno, maybe I'm giving them too much credit but with a network connection and a 8 gig disk it would seem to capable of much more....
While it may be bad form for an employee to comment on a product, my experience is similar to his. Our longest stretch was playing Halo for about 6 hours - with no trouble. I don't know about dead boxen in stores, the store I bought mine at must have cleaned them all up....:)
Lots of pretensions but, until recently, a hellish trip to the nearest highway. As far as the howling edge goes, shoot, there's even a place in town that does lan gaming.....how's that for tech savvy...:)
Something, anything. My office is on Technology drive, right accross from Dominion and I waste about a half hour a day waiting for the damn trains to cross 28.
"Linux run windows apps better than windows" reminds me of IBM's marketing campaign for OS/2. Indeed, the only way that OS/2 ran windows apps better (remember, these were Win3.1 apps) was that when they crashed, they didn't bring down the whole system....
You're a shitsnake. "western meddling dating to World War I"
All of this dates to WWI times? Let's see, what happened after WW I....what did the US do....hmmm...I seem to recall it was something called "ISOLATIONISM". Even after WWII what did the US do...hmmmm.....ever heard of the MARSHAL PLAN??? That rebuilt Europe - even though it wasn't OUR FUCKING FIGHT TO BEGIN WITH.
"You thought you were safe launching missiles at the Middle East, well you are'nt"
Nope, we ain't. But I would still rather be here than anywhere else. oh, btw, we still have plenty more missles and those clowns over there will be seeing some soon...
ya know, you're full of shit. Fuck the rest of the world. If they want to live like we live, they should take their destiny in their own hands and make it happen. That's what happened in the US and countless other civilized nations. There are many countries in Africa where everyone is starving but the country has the largest (insert precious item here) mine/pit in the world. Yet it's being pissed away by the gov't or rebels. Here in the States, our founding fathers and every man/woman who has served the country since have stood up to be counted and if the people in these other countries can't do the same, there isn't much we can do to help.
go read the log entries. ( http://nmp.jpl.nasa.gov/ds1/archives.html )The software they wrote seems pretty sophisticated. It attempts to find the comet by analyzing the pictures the camera takes and steering accordingly. Probably not easy to do...

and the United States is how much larger than Texas?

Don't get carried away...:) this is network tv. I think it was the season premier for this year of the previous one.

is that on the Sony OS story, this is modded at +4 - insightful....:)
companies have to make money in order to stay alive. You still stuck in dot com land?

Peter Jennings bloodlust? Surely those two words can't be in the same sentence.....
