Yeah, why spend your time adding information and opinions to the topic when you can spend it looking for more redundant writeups contributed by unpaid volunteers.
Declan McCullagh's PoliTech list just forwarded a message detailing how Verisign is sending letters to people who own domains through other registrars, attempting to make them change registrar on renewal.
In other news, Microsoft is bundling IE with Windows in order to get people to stop using Netscape.
Not if you do it for profit, don't put the quote in quotes (or otherwise show that it's a quote), and quotations are 100% of your derived work. That's called plagiarism.

Ed Cherlin writes: "A press release on PR Newswire states that Morrison & Foerster, aka MoFo, is suing Etracks of Belmont CA under California law for continuing to spam MoFo's e-mail clients after proper legal notification to stop, and for failing to put ADV: or ADV:ADLT in the subject line. MoFo asks for an injunction and legal costs in addition to statutory damages ($50/spam up to $25,000/day). More than 6,500 messages were received after the notification was delivered, so that comes to $325,000 on the first count, plus fees. MoFo lawyers get what? $500/hour? More?"
Allen Reitz writes: "Sixteen of the top collegiate programmers in the country are left to compete in the 2002 Sun Microsystems and TopCoder Collegiate Challenge. The semi-final and final rounds will take place at MIT on April 19-20, 2002 where all 16 contestants vie for the $100,000 prize. Four regional finalists and 12 'wild cards' make up the final 16 out of 512 that were selected to compete. The four regional finalists include: Ben Wilhelm, Oberlin College; Trayton Otto Georgia Institute of Technology; Tom Sirgedas, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor; Dan Adkins, University of California-Berkeley. Other schools that are sending contestants include: Cal. Tech, Stanford, Univ. of Minn., Virginia Tech, MIT, Michigan Tech, Purdue and the University of Central Florida. If you live in the Boston area and are interested in viewing a programming competition, feel free to stop by the University Park Hotel at MIT on April 19th or view the finals on April 20."
Dude, I never announced. For whatever stupid reason, this got modded up to 5. Stupid fucking moderators. I'm never gonna... Umm... YHBT. Yeah, that's it.
this article on CNET News.com indicates that Microsoft intends to sue them into oblivion.
Umm, no...
"We're not asking the court to stop the company from making their products," said Microsoft spokesman Jon Murchinson. "What we're saying is they should not use a name that could confuse the public and infringe on our valuable trademark."
Fucking slashdot editors... I'm through. I contribute to slashdot no more. This is my last post.
But you only need to purchase from IANA if you need portable address space. If you only need a/24 or/27, you should be purchasing it from your ISP. We don't need routing tables clogged with/24s and/27s. If you need portability, use DNS. If you need reliability, use DNS.
Or in this case, tin foil wristband...

Why hasn't a less ignorant dumbfuck Slashdotter said it's "underrated"?
How is this off topic?
Ok, ok, here's a more closely related story:
According to the Journal of American College Health, 40% of college students engage in "binge drinking".
Declan McCullagh's PoliTech list just forwarded a message detailing how Verisign is sending letters to people who own domains through other registrars, attempting to make them change registrar on renewal.

at which point you can submit a subsequent story:
Cat door causes cat mutation.
ok

Hardly. Slashdot doesn't even have an XML version of the messages or stories, only the headlines.
No

you spoke:
This is my last post.
Oh yeah, I guess I lied. Well, I reserve the right to still troll.
Eh, I never said this would be my last post, just that I wouldn't contribute any more. I can still troll :).
Italics is the submitter.
Hmm. Good point. In my haste to rant and rave I must have missed that.
Would you rather the editors alter your words?
I'd rather the editors use their own words, or ones that are at least based in fact, unless it is specifically to point out the flaws in those words.
In any case, I overreacted. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea magna culpa.

All it takes is one idiot, though, to bring down an entire company.
One desktop machine should never be able to bring down an entire company, even if the hacker has full access to it.
quoting just the end != in context
Quoting just the end may or may not = in context. In this case, I didn't take anything out of context. Mozilla is not GPLed.

You're right. I must have been thinking of some other license. Was there an initial version of the NPL which was not free?
