I think I had a bigger collection of construx than I ever did of Legos. I loved constructs because I could build relativly large structures with few pieces as compared to Legos at the time. I managed to break most of the pieces by subjecting them to stress test. I know everyone out there has built a bridge out of those things and stacked books on top to see how much it would hold.
Admit it!
As a side note, the closest thing that I can think of that would be a modern day contrux would be Kineks (Kinex, Kinects, sp???) My little brother as more of those damn things. We built a tower structure once that was almost as tall as our house. (That's how many he has!) Bridges are a blast to make too.
Oh, man... time to put on my engineers hat. I'm going to go build something. lol
In respect to those who lost their lives in WTC suicide crashings, please keep your MORONIC conspiracy theories inside your puny brain. On any other occasion I would just pass over your post or slap on a 'troll' mod. But your STUPID timing to post your remarks is just plain wrong and deserves a reply to highlight your apparent lack of any type of remorse.
Most likely a video anomaly. No other taped videos display this apparent object from a variety of different angles.
About the only thing that I could attribute it to being would be debri or a bug. Something that is close to the camera. 1, because it apparently moving fast. 2, it is very blurred. Either motion or from focal length. Mostly likely too close to the lense. Too far and it would have been clearer.
I would put money on it being a bug flying across the lense.

And how come the news don't show any pictures of people jumping from the WTC towers???
On page 2 of my area newspaper, the 'Star Tribune', there is a person plumetting to the ground.
I, personally, wouldn't air video of a person falling. Some respect must be given to the victoms. I think most of the media outlets have pretty much silently agreed that it wouldn't be respectful. Print news is a little different. A picture doesn't always have the same effect as video does. (albeit, sometimes a picture can be more meaningful)
I'm not sure that even a majorly beefed up fir protection system would have helped. The planes, bound for LA, were fully loaded with fuel. Videos of the impacts show explosions ripping all the way through the building. This surely would have damaged any existing fire suppresent system majorly. The fuel would have severly damnpened any sprinklers efforts as putting out such a blaze. In fact, if I'm not mistaken. If a fire gets hot enough, water can actually be used to fuel the fire as the molecule can be broken apart into hydrogen and oxygen.
I was thinking the same thing. For starters, a 767 type plane is a lot of plane to be hitting a building. Especially at a few hundred mph. I'm sure it took out a few load bearing members in the building. Plus, the fire. It was a raging inferno. Even metal doesn't hold up well to fires like that.
Once the top half of the building gave way, the rest of the building jsut couldn't take it.
hehe, I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking along the lines of Darwinism. Only the strong survive.
I hope the guy working on RoboCode decides to program in network play. I would love to have wars with others. Maybe even team play. That would be interesting.
What ever happened to the thrill of a cool code hack?
That has always been what keeps me coding. I love getting myself stuck into a coding corner (???). If I knew how to program perfectly I don't think it would be any fun. Half the fun is trying to solve a problem that has left others stuck.
I think the real question is why anyone would not want to become a programmer!
One big thing that I hate about reading on a computer screen is the backlighting. I can only stare at a computer screen for so long before my eyes start to dry up into raisins. (maybe I should blink more) But, the lighting compared to the surroundings is hard on my eyes. Paper print doesn't present this problem for me. The lighting is from an external source. Not to mention, resolution. Even maxed out at 1600x1200, anti-alias fonts and everything, the test on computer screens sucks!
If E-paper or e-ink (whatever it is) can match paper print quality and not have to be backlit. Then it will probably sell really well.
Or... you become like me and print out a copy of everything. And I mean everything! I've been know to print out copies of/. submitions. I have piles of unfiled paper laying around me right now. I have no idea what half of them are for. But, I have them never-the-less.
But, I do agree with you, a hard copy is a nice thing to have.
Based on what we know about life what you say is fairly true. However, it is what we don't know about how life is formed and in what forms it may take that will be clincher in discovering life other than our own. We know that for life to exist in a form that we know it, we need conditions that are similar to what we find on earth. However, there is no evidence to support a conclusive claim that life cannot exist in environments that are dissimilar from where we exist. Life may very well exist on mars, but it may be in a form we have yet to discover. Scientist are always looking for water as signs to point to the possibility for life elsewhere. Maybe there is another ideal chemical combination that may also harvest life.
At one time computers filled entire rooms and would dim the lights in buildings when fired up. Then, they fit them into small boxes that fit neatly under your monitor. Even farther they went. They made them to fit neatly on your lap. Today, you can carry them around in you pocket and some even fit around your wrist.
Who would have thought.
Given how technology changes and the advances that are continually being made, a pocket pc as I described is really not that far out of line.
I've been using a Palm IIIx for roughly 3 years now. It okay, nothing spectacular. What I'm realy waiting for though is basically the killer PDA. I want something that has a great screen. I mean really good resoultion. I don't want to be able to see the damn pixels on the screen. I want built-in 802.11b. At least 2 week battery life. Powerfull proccessors. Powerfull enough to play live video over the previously mention wireless connection. I would like the screen to be slightly bigger than they are now. The unit can be no thicker than the current Palm V series. Built-in stereo speakers (That you can actually hear!!!) Large storage space. A gig would be perfect. Some sort of smart media cards. Compact Flash would be nice. IR port that has some distance to it. Built-in mic for the natural language speach recognition software (included). A vibrater, like cell phones have. That way your PDA can tell you things with out having to beep at you. (I hate ringing cell phones in place where they should be off.)
That's about all I can think of right now. If there is a unit out there like that, I will be the first to buy it!
This post is by far one of the worst examples I've seen of 'loaded language.' It was obviously an attempt by the author to drive a point across with out haveing a single reliable premise on which to base a conclusion on.
A claim is made that it really did come down to a decision that George W. made. However, all supporting claims are based upon guess work and the use of language intentended to give the author a sense of credability. Such language is listed above in italics. The author has given no concrete or valid premises to conclusivly link a final decision to George W.
Try again, please.
On a side note, I am not denying that W. didn't have a say in the decision. I'm just pointing a major flaw out in the presented argument.
I just download the cam editions off of irc. Sure they suck, but at least I get to see the movie right off the bat. If I like the movie. I usually end up going to the theater anyways. Nothing really beats the theater experience. (Note: go in the afternoon on weekdays. That way you don't have to deal with the annoying brat teenagers.)
I don't like the idea of just watch once though. If I rent a movie I can watch it as many times as I want untill it's due. Why shouldn't the same apply for a downloaded edition. Maybe they could have like a 5 day window in which you could stop, play, rewind, fastforward, yada, yada, yada.
I don't think that it is neccessarily that Java is a better language the C language. You can do far more things in C/C++ than you could do in Java. (at the moment) But what makes Java so much more appealing is that it is inhierently an object oriented languages. C on the other hand is not. You make C structures act like it is, but it isn't. Java has a very good enterprise level object request structure working for it. I think (not positive) that they are using CORBA to handle object requests.
Everything now days is about object oriented programming, Reusing old code, Server-side proccessing. Why do you think MS is pushing.NET? Because that is where they see things going. Okay, I'm going to side with MS on one aspect. They are very good at seeing trends, but, they tend to get a little pushy as they move in to the new areas.
Sure Java is a bit slower. But the negatives of java are far outweighed by its benefits. The open source community should be jumping all over this. Java apps can run on about a bazillion platforms. All you need is an appropriate interpretor for your platform and you're ready to go. I am actually surprised that people are holding onto C for as long as they have.
Okay, I'm sure most people will probably agree that the article was sub par. If they would have taken some screen shots to illustrate specific examples. I've run Mandrake before so I know what the general layout is, I haven't touched XP with a 10 foot pole however. So I have no idea what is different about it. Some pictures would have been nice.

Why are unix hosts getting hit so hard with this?
I think this is a fair question. I know many people who run unix machines and are reportedly getting hit quite frequently with this worm. I run a Win2k Adv server and the firewall I'm using only show 1 rouge hit from the second attempt at the worm 'CodeRedII'. I was never hit with the first one. Even if I would have been, my system was already updated.
I'm just curious. Is this worm spreading more quickly on certain IP segments, ie. @Home. Or could it be that I'm not hearing anything from the Windows users because they have their system unplugged in fear?
On a side note, I've been nailed about a zillion times with the W32/SirCam Outlook Worm. "Hey, where's the reporting on this one." I'm sending out automatic responses to those people who are sending it too me as I somehow seem to be in their address book without haveing a clue who they are.
