Oh yes let's do crap dishes and make people pay oodles of money for it.
I have seen and heard about the Fat Duck and while the elite cuisine establishment can be quite anal, we don't need to go to molecular chemistry. For if we go to molecular chemistry why are we even using real food in the first place? Why not just synthesize everything in the first place? Would make life a lot easier for the Fat Duck....
What bothers me with people like Nathan and in fact the entire freaken generation like him is that they feel did something really big in one thing then they are God's gift to the world and can do everything else. I wish these folks would just sit on the sidelines and let people come up with real solutions. For if this nut job had real skills he would invent a way to grow an artificial piece of steak! Imagine how much better our planet would be if we could grow artificial steaks? We could eat meat and not have the side effects of screwing up our planet. But hey that would require real work and I doubt his generation wants to do that...
Is America a democracy, yes or no? Do Americans not vote who will represent themselves yes or no?
The issue here is that politicians have learned that it is easier to get people to agree to a hot button issue like abortion and distract them from the issues that matter. People themselves are faulted here! The politicians are only doing what they need to get re-elected.
Sarah Palin is an excellent example of a nitwit politician who knows how to play the hot button issues. She is smarter than most people give her credit for.
If people actually paid attention to the issues and stopped voting on emotions then politicians might change.
They are excited about things that other countries like Russia have been doing for decades? Huh? Progress? I will gladly be corrected, but it just seems to me that this is a step backwards in comparison to the stuff that they were doing before...
In all fairness, yes we would hear on how great idea this was. And we would hear about how this is yet again another plot where Apple brings nothing of value, but considers it magic. And to be fair at least that discussion would 1,000,000 comments long, instead of this 50 comment, "Man do they look like wiennies!" posting. You see this time around even a geek will say, "dude get a life!"
This article is crap... Notice the following: >>Professor Vale says the title of the book is meant to shock, but the couple, who do not have a cat or dog, believe the reintroduction of non-carnivorous pets into urban areas would help slow down global warming.
Ah yes, "the I don't have this and thus nobody else should have this green peace tree hugging idiot" crowd. I get annoyed by these people because they are hypocrites. They will be all nice, green and free love, UNTIL you touch something they happen to like.
What I really don't like about this study is the benefit animals like dogs have. Time and time it has proven that those that have dogs or cats have better lives. I am not saying you need to have dogs or cats, but those that do are better for it. Also dogs have been with mankind for thousands of years because there is a symbiotic relationship. As I write this my Ye old English Bulldogs are sleeping at my feet.
So what does these dogs do for me?
1) Force me to walk them everyday ensuring that I am outside doing something. 2) A jogging partner making my jog not so boring. 3) A watchdog (not guard dog) who keeps an eye on things. 4) Fire alert in case something is burning and they will make sure we get to safety.
Essentially, a dog helps me lower my carbon footprint because I exercise more and use the car less since by being healthier I will bike, walk, or take public transportation.
I guess those benefits did not fit into their study? But why should it have because after all they don't "own" a dog or cat...
I have heard from other people that little things don't work. Like sound being disabled after hibernation. (And this was on an Dell notebook).
Regarding your comment on Ubuntu. I said specifically Netbook Remix! There was a reason here. Because Ubuntu != Ubuntu Remix are similar, but not the same thing.
Though I could take the same argument as you did with me regarding the notebook.
>>No. The bad is that *your* notebook is problematic. Mine (Netbook Generic) works just fine, thanks very much. I'm sure other people's do too.
The bad is that notebooks are rather problematic. I have an HP tablet that when the screen is flipped causes the machine to stop dead in its tracks.
The other problem I had was that upgrading an XP to Windows 7 machine worked ONCE I completely removed all of the partitions. Windows 7 needs a system partition that is blocked by most OEM's backup and restore partition. It frustrated me for five hours, and the messages from Windows 7 were crap.
Overall, Windows 7 is acceptable. Definitely needed when using Vista, but Windows 7 no work of wonder...
Want work of wonder... Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Now that has me impressed. I run Windows machines, but on my netbook Ubuntu Netbook Remix runs perfectly and the UI is brilliant. Much better than the Windows 7 stuff.
America is an immigrant country and sitting there complaining about the "foreigners" like the GP was doing is a pile of crap! Because everybody was once a foreigner.
So to say the foreigners of today are problematic, and the foreigners which were your parents are good is speaking with a split tongue.
I am replying to myself because I saw that I was a "troll", and that since you were born in America you are a native. What a pile of bogus bull crap!
You or your parents were once immigrants. And those immigrants made a country what it is today. And when you treat them the way that foreigners are being treated today no wonder they go back.
My point is that America is a land of immigrants, and what is to say that you are a better American than the ones coming? Answer nothing, no reason whatsoever!
American's as a general populace don't give a shit about about science and engineering. Otherwise why on earth are people more interested in reality TV, and think that the bible is *real science*.
The real problem is that only geeks, nerds and ninny's according to North American English speakers go into engineering. I know me and my wife are North American educated engineers. Yet here we are in Europe and have been here since two years after graduation. My wife is French Canadian and her family has been in Canada for about 425 years. She is the first one in her family in about 400 years to leave Canada.
The problem in the North American english speaking society is that there is a deep distrust of scientists and people who are "smarter". For crying out loud only in North American English society is there a debate on whether or not evolution exists. People elect those people who are good "drinking buddies". They don't elect those that might actually make their lives better. It is freaken sad.
So to say that you have unfair competition due to those foreigners, how about you get more of your high school buddies to study engineering and science.
What you forget in your statistics is that other countries might actually have a good university. You are making the arrogant assumption that ONLY in America can you get a good education. Take a look at the latest university rankings why don't you ok? Other countries have good Universities as well.
I am somebody who invests and trades the market. These days I work at a hedge fund. Want to know my return? I have made on average 25% per anum for the past 5 years.
How am I doing this year? As of 22:00 CET today, I am up 29% from Jan 2008! So in other words with the S&P at 1367 on Jan 2008, you would be at 1763, or out performing the S&P market by 60%! Don't even ask how much I am making this year.
Personally this guy is going to loose his money because anybody can get lucky in the market, it takes skill to make money in a market year after year after year!
Some people like doing this stuff in their spare time, others not. Though I do agree with the blog entry, "spare time none of my f****g business."
I personally can't work 7 days a week on the same stuff at work. Not because I don't like it, because I do. But because otherwise I will go stir crazy. I work in the market as a quant-developer. My morning starts at 9:00 CET (European markets open), and ends at 22:00 CET (American markets close). And once 22:00 hits let me tell you I am freaken happy that the day is over. And I am freaken happy once Friday close happens because I can relax until next Monday.
Oddly our brokerage (Interactive Brokers) does not allow you to log in over the weekend. I wonder if it is a sort of forced vacation... In the beginning I hated that IB closed over the weekends, but now I truly, truly appreciate it.
The problem is not one of infrastructure only. There is a real limit.
1) Screams from people who yell and scream that towers generates DNA errors. Thus there can only be so many towers with so many watts of power.
2) Interference, and band splitting. There are only so many connections that can be served via a single tower. Exceed that and you have problems.
3) Wifi is not the solution. Conferences now give free Wifi. Want to see how fast those connections come to a crawl?
The reality is that wireless only has so much capacity. It is like Satellite Internet and its limitations. Prices do need to be tiered. Granted the old pricing was really expensive, but this new approach is no better.
I work for a living in statistics, namely as a quant.
This study is crap!
17,000 tests, and 35 yes count them 35 had a violent crime. Of those 35, 65 percent said that they ate candy whereas in the 17000 only 42 said so.
See the flaw? The flaw is that the pool size of the violent criminals is actually way too small. Instead what they need to do is go to the prison system and see if the 65% number holds up. Because only with a big enough pool size can something be said.
Right now this study is crap, because the results could be the result of a sampling flaw.
If anything can be said of this study is that you need to verify it with the prison system.
RMS is out line. Point blank, no ifs, ands or buts.
>Stallman is of course right to point out that he is a Microsoft apologist - he is a notorious one. It is beyond argument that Microsoft spends significant dollars in direct and "personal" attempts to crush free software development projects such as Linux through the most indefensible barratry.
Just like any other software company. IBM likes Linux because it allows them to sell more boxes, as they don't have an operating system bias. The question is if Microsoft is acting differently than other companies, and that answer is no. If open source were producing free pop-tarts and Microsoft were selling pop-tarts then Microsoft would come out swinging.
>Miguel must chuckle at himself when he writes things like "Fear mongering is a vibrant industry." It is too rich in irony for him not to know it. Yes, he suggests Microsoft is our "ally." A hilarious notion that, when he writes it, makes it clear what contempt he has for you, the reader.
Did you even bother to look at his reference? The video, from the BBC. Fear mongering is a vibrant industry. Watch the six hour video and you will be surprised.
>Just keep in mind that this is pure wasted time. RMS correctly points out that the war was won long ago - by a recognition of the value of the GPL and of free software. It's quite easy to understand - most people, when they give away their work, have a common moral compass, and they share certain values about how they would like to see that work go out into the world. i.e. They would rather some 3rd party not get paid for what they did for free. And they would rather others have the freedom to tinker, just as they did. Most ("important, widely used, active") open source software is free software for this reason. Of course, the "debate" will never end, either. But let's just keep it in perspective.
Ah this is such crap, a large number of projects are GPL, but the successful ones, the ones that popular are in fact GPL library, BSD, Mozilla, or Apache. So to do a bait and switch (from GPL to free software) is clever, but you should be clear about your facts.
I personally wish RMS would go away. Sure he was the one who raised the flag pole at the beginning, but now we need people to build businesses and get people to make money. As much as I like Open Source we do need to pay bills. People like Miguel are trying to build business models where programmers can get paid, and yet produce open source. Whereas people like RMS charge to the waazoo to hear their rants. Where is the business model there?
I live in the Western world with democracy, and sorry, but none of the governments can be trusted. Right after the 9/11 all of the governments were all to eager to institute laws that many would deem against freedom.
Here is another example. The "Western" governments created a black and grey list of countries with tax issues. These countries fixed things up and are on the white list. NOW the g20 says, "well we can't have that we need tougher regulation. We need to get those low tax places back on the black list." Give me a f*****g break! The governments of the West have lost touch to the voter and they do whatever they want.
Oh yes let's do crap dishes and make people pay oodles of money for it.
I have seen and heard about the Fat Duck and while the elite cuisine establishment can be quite anal, we don't need to go to molecular chemistry. Oh REALLY?
Explain the PATRIOT act to me?
While the American constitution undeniably is what you say it is, the past 20 years has not been kind to America!
Hey folks, did you see that pig fly?? It was quite impressive. So fat, and trumped. Never thought it would get off the ground... But there it went...
I do understand laser etching...
Read the article, and read the comment afterwards...
In fact you are making my point completely!!!!
Ok the article talks about laser etching... Meaning it burns the skin... What does the article comment say:
Is that ink? What is it made of?
Honestly, I have some reservations about zesting that into my lemon squares
All I can think of is Homer Simpson... Do people not think about things at all???? Do people not understand English? Etching means...
to cut, bite, or corrode with an acid or the like;
In this case it is a laser, and hence it means to cut or bite with a laser... I just shake my head...
No the fault is with the people themselves!
Is America a democracy, yes or no? Do Americans not vote who will represent themselves yes or no?

Ok here is my question...

IDIOTS!
I have no idea... I have never dual booted my machines. I use a VM... All I know is that I am not impressed by this action...
This is not a blue screen. If it was a bluescreen all would be ok. It is a machine freeze...
BTW it worked when it was running Vista. It stopped working when I upgraded to Windows 7. Problem? Windows 7.
No I am sorry, but I disagree here...

>>No. The bad is that *your* notebook is problematic. Mine (Netbook Generic) works just fine, thanks very much. I'm sure other people's do too.
See how it cuts two ways... ;)
I have installed it on three machines:
The good is that desktops work rather well.

America is an immigrant country and sitting there complaining about the "foreigners" like the GP was doing is a pile of crap! Because everybody was once a foreigner.
So to say the foreigners of today are problematic, and the foreigners which were your parents are good is speaking with a split tongue.
The world is borderless....
Want to know about "borders"
Read about it on wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passport
The idea of borders, haves and haves nots is a relatively recent concept. Thus to say you need to enforce and keep people out is crap!
People used to move from one place to another ALL the time. So long as you paid your local taxes and gave all of your servitude everything was cheeky.
If we went back to borderless countries we would all be in much better shape because people would travel however they would please.
So do your history and then understand what I am getting at...
And this is why there is a brain drain!
I am replying to myself because I saw that I was a "troll", and that since you were born in America you are a native. What a pile of bogus bull crap!

Unless you are a Native Indian from North America... You are a damm foreigner yourself, ok!
No he is not an investor... HE GOT LUCKY!
