And 30-35 years down the road you will be saying "Why didn't I save that money instead of spending it!"

The stock market can tank and take the money you saved with you.

Actually he didn't say "put it in the stock market" and the method proposed is one of the few that is pretty much guaranteed to provide a good return, regardless of short-term market conditions, if you have enough time.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't save. You should plan for the future. Just remember, you can always earn more money, time comes in a fixed amount.

That's absolutely correct... you can never get back those years you weren't saving! And if you think you can get it back by dumping a bunch of money into the savings account later, you need to roll the numbers and see how little difference that makes.

But that CGI time cost much less than the time spent on the miniatures, especially when you consider inflation (time value of money, $$ spent in the '50s are worth more than $$ spent in the '00s). CGI is becoming popular in large part because it's cheaper. Remember, dollars drive Hollywood! That's not to say CGI doesn't allow for much more interesting visuals, as there are many camera angles which are pretty much impossible with miniatures. But the dollars are the driving force, especially with the knowledge that it's just getting cheaper every day. Babylon 5 was possible in 1992/93 because they were able to render thoses scenes on the Amigas, and therefore did not have to build models of the station, Starfuries, etc.

Of course you are right, for the time, building the miniatures like that was quite elegant.

What strikes me about these images is that the Aurora is very red in these images. The aurora was always green when I saw it. Rarely there would be a little red in it for a short time.
The red is caused by a higher energy effect. If I remember correctly, it is caused by Oxygen molecules. So during a CME it's not surprising you would see red aurora.

    From Alaska.edu:

All-red auroras are seen near the beginnings of large magnetic storms, and only during some of these. At such times, large numbers of electrons originating on the sun stream into the high atmosphere. There they strike oxygen atoms resident at altitudes 200 to 500 km and cause them to emit quanta of pure red light. Normal green auroras and green auroras tinged with reddish lower borders occur at much lower altitude, typically near 100 km. The electrons that produce these auroras are more energetic than those creating blood-red auroras so they penetrate more deeply into the atmosphere. During their passage through the upper reaches, these electrons also cause red emissions from oxygen atoms but the red color usually is so much weaker than the green that it is detected only with special instruments.

I saw many displays growing up, as I lived quite a bit north of my present location. (About 60degN Magnetic)

If you're curious about what the aurora is doing, this is a good place to check. (If you're in the northern hemisphere)

Remember that aurora forecasts almost always list the magnetic latitude, so check to see if your location is expected to have visible aurora. For example, this forecast projects aurora at 50degN Magnetic and north (Yea!). You may (especially in North America) be further north (or south) than you think!

Most normal 'secure firewall' products aren't tuned to block outbound requests from the protected servers to internet hosts.

I would hope that most firewall admins aren't allowing TFTP outbound!

If you don't need the service, turn it off. Only allow what is required.

Now if Nimda had used HTTP to retrive the Admin.dll file, many more folks would have been infected, as most firewalls do need to allow HTTP outbound.
