    At this point, I don't think this story will create any useful publicity. Apart from the fact that most people, by now, are either going to see it anyways, turned off by episodes 1 & 2, or just don't care about the series, there's enough stories about people living outside a theater to remind everyone that it's coming.

    Consistent pasting? I'd like to get any pasting, but every time I want to use my computer for 5 minutes linux insists on doing a full filesystem check on my 120GB hard drive during the boot process. Maybe if we donate a few modern hard drives to kernel developers this might change?

    Here's your chance to get on the slashdot frontpage! Submit something about how stores... no, the government... wait, the Illuminati, that's it, are tracking you, and using their telekinesis powers to open doors in front of you. They're only doing it in stores now, so it can be explained away with technology, but it's only a matter of time before they have total control over us.

    That would be about as accurate as this story, so you should have no trouble getting it accepted.

    It's already been done, intentionally, in a light airplane. The pilot died, the plane was mostly destroyed, the office building suffered minor damage.

    The average car is a bit heavier than a light airplane, but when you're flying you have to minimize the weight.

    Reading websites is also a pull method - if you have the same access patterns, RSS traffic is much more efficient. Frequent automated checks increase the load, but you don't really need those unless you're running a news ticker...

    I just want to use my own computer. Making things harder for manufacturers who provide binary drivers or would provide them if they were supported better prevents this.

    As someone who has written a KDE application, I don't think the existence of user interface guidelines is as important as the fact that the KDE libraries make it easiest to let them do all the boring work... incidentally causing all applications to follow the same guidelines since they aren't reimplementing the file save dialog box.

    User interface guidelines are for those who reimplement the user interface in every application.

    Linksys routers are good solid stuff like Windows 95 is a good solid enterprise mainframe operating system, in my 2.5 years of experience.

    I've heard this a lot recently, but didn't know what all the fuss was about until I read a comparison of Athlon 64 motherboards a few days ago -- I wasn't even looking closely, but when I compared information with other sources, there were several factual mistakes in virtually every paragraph! (for example, the roundup claimed that the motherboard I now have only supports single-sided DIMMs in two of the slots, but the manual clearly states that you can use a double-sided DIMM in one of those slots at a time)

    I won't believe anything I read on THG again.
