I disagree with this. Although I have a server that I use to host services for my projects, I would rather use a public IRC network, because it's one less running program/security risk.
For people who can't even get their own webserver/mail server, there's no way they can even think of running and irc server.
If you care about security, you should be reading Bugtraq. As soon as I saw the title I checked my email and read the real advisory - now that I'm done upgrading, I can come back and see what Slashdot says about it.
Coding all the potential panics? I doubt it. I haven't looked at the system, but the intelligent way to do it would be to translate kernel panic messages one character at a time.
It probably isn't that easy to make a mod, but it doesn't take a different kind of person to look at a game and imagine changing things... or maybe it does and I'm one of them:)
BitKeeper has a nice solution to this. It builds changesets when you commit your work, and then you can distribute those changeset with various methods - bk push will use ssh to send them directly to the server, but you can also email them.
I think it doesn't take very much to be able to look at Quake and think "wouldn't it be cool if...". If you get an idea that you really care about, you can probably do it.
"When an app has no windows open (or the main window is not open), the WM should attempt to kill them (first normally, then with -9)"
This is the most idiotic suggestion I've heard in some time. Not all apps have a window. What about xbindkeys? There's a damn good reason for this. What about programs (such as daemons on Windows) that just occasionally pop up a warning dialog? You going to kill them off as well?
What about applications that do run in windows? When you have a kdeinit process for konqueror that's eating all your CPU time but no Konqueror windows open, it's pretty obvious that something is wrong.
I've been listening to electornic music for a little more than a year, and I have a list of favorite artists:
Airscape ATB Cosmic Gate Blank & Jones Cosmic Gate Das Licht DJ Sonix (might be hard to find) DJ Tiesto Ferry Corsten Cosmic Gate Gouryella Kamaya Painters (Mainly Endless Wave Albion Mix and Far From Over) Paul Oakenfold (Look for his Essential Mix in China) Pfaffendorf Cosmic Gate System F
You should also listen to the Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1.
If this game had come out 5 years ago, it probably would have been starcraft with orcs (assuming they had been working on it for the same amount of time). Is that really what you want?
I may not have been entirely accurate about branch prediction, but in the end it's just another way to make the processor work faster. Now how does the speed affect the performance of theses AIs?
So nyah! (well over a month to!)
Writer looking for greeting card publisher Inquire Within [netfirms.com].
You should spend less time on your sig and more time on your spelling.
That doesn't sound very good - I don't burn CDs, but if they have restrictions like that they probably don't use an open format.
Actually, this is a bit of an innovation - the only other place I've seen these in a desktop application is Maya.
What? Slashdot editors aren't supposed to correct people who submit stories!
Kool, IIRC
(yes, I know it was joke)
Yeah, why didn't we just stop at ENIAC? It could do simple calculations and fit in a large room - that's all anyone should need!
Yeah, now try installing Gentoo with X and KDE on there :)

What's the difference between windows and Linux? I don't have to disable a hard drive in the BIOS to boot Linux.
"Say nothing and people suspect you haven't read the article. Open your mouth and you remove all doubt".
You can completely automate a laptop and hide it in any small space as long as it's on (it even has battery power, unlike a Dreamcast).

You'd think that if they restricted themselves to accepted submissions they'd have time to check the links...
According to the BBC, this is the first object to get a positive score...
I've seen duplicate stories, but this beats them all! :)

Actually, before I changed to BitKeeper I added commit emails without a wrapper, mostly because I couldn't get the wrapper working.
No.
