Laptops can replace desktops with some ingenuity with posture (say, Sphinx with the computer in front of you - I find it more pleasing than using a desktop). Otherwise, completely agreed. I wonder if someone will come up with a tablet distro that treats the screen like a touchpad, and gives you a cursor FFS.
Speak for your self - aside from demotivational posters, I have no sympathies for LOLCAT style data presentation. Give me a plain-text backed PDF my desktop search can handle. I'm tired of holier than thou articles from intellectually 12 y.o. girls.
Have you considered squashfs2 backed OpenVZ containers? The ELF spec allows specifying an interpreter, say an LLVM JIT. Combined with FX!86-style persistent caching, you could give both desktop and Android linux quite the workout. tihokibertron is me, and a google user, and I use e-mail, get the hint? Drop a line anytime.
Phones and tablets don't have nice enough screens for serious work and require a slew of peripherals turning them into badly thought out laptops/PCs with docking stations even if they did. Unlike any of the above.
Monads are in Haskell and are side-effect encapsulating types not typically used in most data structures.
And touchpads. Honestly, I'd love tablets if the screen was a touchpad controlling a cursor like God intended.
Desktop search on KDE takes 5 to 8 and indexes PDFs. :P

Amen brother. Funny how "power user" KDE is more similar to Win7 and quicker to get up to speed with, than GNOME spawn?
I'd also expect WinRT won't support graphics, mathematical functions or English. (Can anyone confirm/deny/abort?)
FTFY.
Welcome to the KDE clan, brother, try Amarok, it has multipane playlist editing that beats even VLC.
How is that enforceable?
What is their rationalization?
I wish there was a git backed wiki CMS, so forking wikipedia would be a more common occurence.
A couple of special purpose CSS properties would do the trick, and give you a free in-line subtitles format for video tags.

Sabayon might be easiest to pillage from, being Gentoo based.
Laptop and desktop screens are of the same order of magnitude in diagonal size, smartphones, no.
What about ARM?
What if we treat the touchscreen like a giant multi-finger touchpad, and display an old school cursor?
Not enough: we don't have enough STEM students, remember?
Irony of ironies - OS X is a power user system, now.
KDE, Xfce, E17, LXDE

HP-UX had Context-Sensitive Directories. *sigh*
And we all know, the general user doesn't have a porn collection...
How do you plan on grafting a 15 inch screen on a 5 inch device?
ATM sucks.
