These people, the ones who put patents on maths, algorithms, are part of people who should be processed for crimes against humanity.
You shouldn't be allowed to patent the way we think.
...that Blizzard's WoW is done on purpose not to have a defined end.
Indeed doesn't end at all, and it's always a vicious cycle.
While with games as StarCraft II you can decide to play multiple games but you always know that when a match is over is over, with WoW there's no such thing.
This is why BBC's Panorama isn't that bad talking about WoW.
Cheers
Ps. I've played WoW for 4.5 years. Stopped when I realized the game wouldn't have anything to offer more.
The only way to buy once play forever is to have the un-DRMed version...
Why is the industry run by such morons? Don't they know that the free for all copies are available no matter the DRM?
Hi, I definitely agree with what you say.
Even if in my comp science student life, and/or professional worklife I have found no equivalents of C++.
With shared_ptr, auto_ptr and STL containers memory management is for newbies and you get all benefits of a properly compiled/optimized language.
The only thing that made me consider Java as a language son of a lesser god is the fact you can't actually manage memory as you wish. You can call the garbage collector, do tricks, but is not the same as telling the OS "look mate free/delete that chunk of memory, restrict my data segment (brk/sbrk)". Or is it possible in Java?
I'm saying this because just the other day a 32 bit (Java run-time process) has reached the limit of 4 GiB and...bye bye.
This is the event that makes me think "hey, why is difficult to use C++ with smart pointers?".
Still I consider Java a good language better than many others, for the reasons you stated before.
I've always bought nVidia HW for Linux because I was playing (WoW/Quake4/DooM3) and wanted good 3D drivers.
When SC2 will be out probably I'll play through wine, but this time I'll document myself and prolly buy AMD.
My 2 cents,
Ciao!
and it took me only 5 hrs to complete. If HMV gives me 40% or more of the mkt price I'll be more than happy to bring it back to them.
Sorry SONY but I don't give a cr*p when in first instance your games cost 50 GBP!!!! If I can have a little return/buy them at lower price, as in a real market scr*w you!
Ciao!
Please don't confuse a fashion game like WoW, where you have to be dressed (errmm equipped) with latest gear to be able to be defined WoW player, with a RTS game like SCII/Wc3 where your skill is what makes you a better player.
I think this is a bit OffTopic.
Cheers,
Sorry mate, you're totally far from the truth.
I agreed with you except when MPEG-LA extended their free content scheme till 2016.
This simply means that they are f**king scared to lose the format war because of stupid fees. Plus decoding Theora at SD or less (i.e. 640x480 or less) doesn't require a lot of CPU power. Sure, on a small device like the iPhone (aka battery hogger) this could be problematic, but is Apple's issue.
And btw, both Theora and H.264 are form the same family, the core algorithm of coding/decoding is DCT/iDCT. It shouldn't take long before someone implements it. As nVidia and AMD have now accelerated support for H.264, it should be pretty straightforward for them to implement Theora support.
Now, to clarify, I honestly believe that for HD video content (720/1080p) at the same bitrate H.264 is better than current Theora encoder.
Cheers,
The point is imho they will keep on using STUN (see my post above), using our own bandwidth/resources (eg. running servers on your own PS3 rather than dedicated servers) to make money.
Look, with Battle.NET, since 2002, Blizzard is hosting all the ranked (ladder) games of War3 (prolly StarCraft as well).
And they have anti-cheating teams as well.
Did they ever ask you for a penny for this?
And this was in 2002 where setting up/paying for T1 et similia was more expensive. Nowdays all fast line/cable infrastructure costs a lot less. Computational power required to run a dedicated server is more or less the same.
Why does SONY should make pay people for the kind of service you would expect for free?
Btw, do you know how easy is to burn your bandwidth with PS3 acting as server?
Cheers,
Here is the discussion and some tests.
Actually is true, on HD content between 4mbps and 2mbps H.264 is way better than Theora.
But at YouTube quality (eg SD if you're lucky) the difference is not that much.
Cheers,
The SONY PSN I think is mostly used to act as a STUN starter, but then games are mostly hosted locally, so they save bandwidth.
At least I think this is true for games like SF4, where apparently they don't/can't do anything for cheaters because they can't (read don't give a sh*t) spot them...
But this is my guess.
Cheers,
...I might as well call it a day.
The service is cr*p (with SF4 for example is full of lag cheaters and they don't get banned), movies you can buy cost a lot as well (plus on a side note if I downaload 10 of them I exceed my 100 GB monthly max limit on my ultra-in-theory-unlimited BT account - I discovered that because of this...sigh) and are badly compressed.
And they even think to start charging people?
This is the good time I might stop buying any SONY product in future.
Cheers,
Absolutely the truth!!!!
I bought Far Cry 2 for PS3 because of reviews and ads, but then after 5 minutes I remove the BD from PS3 and put it into its own cover. Since then I lent the game to my friend, and he returned it immediatly.
If only I could have had it pirated, I'd tried it and then not buy!!! Instead my GF spent 35 GBP on it!!!
Arrggghhhhh!!!!
Btw sorry I got confused... he owns so many...:-P
Libero is owned by his brother Paolo
Il Foglio is owned by his ex-wife
and he owns (through his publishing company) ona of the biggest quotes of Il Corriere (the most famous italian newspaper)...
You missed the point sit. In Italy they don't sell many newspapers...btw he does control 35% of the biggest newspaper (Il Corriere) as well..
Anyway the majority of information is broadcast through TV which he controls (50% as prime minister) and owns (50% his own TV stations).
You sir, don't know what you're talking about.
I'll translate the (most significant parts of) second one that is more insightful: Average Italian ...I remember old habits, social satire, today I'm trying to find Luttazzi (a satire comedian who has been censored by Berlusconi) on TV but can't
Anyway, I'm the good average italian citizen, I've updated my mobile ringtones, I drink a glass of wine with a panino and I'm happy if Costanzo (a showman) pretends to be funny in his show
I got an holy picture in the living room, I pray it just so I can win the lotto... that will make me millionaire like Silvio (Berlusconi) with Paolo's (Berlusconi - his borther) newspaper and his controlled TV news (I had to render it like this because in Italian is said as a joke with names)
This year I've been poor but for two weeks I've pretended to be rich at Porto Cervo (one of the most posh area of Sardinia, where Gates & co. go every summer) ...
I don't care a lot about anything these days, I go to the shopping mall and my issue is where to park my car
But you know what? I don't care a lot because I'm Italian and I sing! Just give me TV shows...
Well I hope this gives you an idea about Italy and the average italian...
These people, the ones who put patents on maths, algorithms, are part of people who should be processed for crimes against humanity.

A bit like the other bigger casinos which hold all our money...if you know what I mean!

Hi guys, I've use this software qpsnr to measure PSNR/SSIM of different encodings.
I thought this could be good to share!

Honestly I just hope it will work in WINE.
If it does I might give it a shot. Will DRM not make work it in WINE?
Well one less customer.
Have fun!

Overnight money market is not only legal, but them more money you lend the more high the perceived interest rate is.
