Exactly. I looked at a Slate (haven't pulled the trigger yet since I don't have $700 laying around) because if I'm going to lug something else around with me I want it to be a laptop replacement. Not a crippled larger version of my iPhone. I want to use native Outlook, native PowerPoint, native Word. I want to draw on it with a stylus in OneNote and have it pick up my handwriting and make it legible. That's what I'm after.
100 push ups is nowhere near enough to cause Rhabdo. Maybe if he was being forced to do this multiple times, or otherwise overexert himself for days and days on end, but I can't see a single 100 push up set causing a full blown case out of nowhere. Rhabdo is usually diagnosed in crazy hardcore workout enthusiasts who don't know when to stop.
That sounds like a totally awesome SF short story. Mind if I played around with it? I've never published anything but it'd be a complete dick move not to ask permission, especially given the context of the conversation it popped up in.
I think a vote for or against someone because of a single view, be it abortion stance, environmental stance, or net neutrality stance is not exactly the best way to go about things. If you boil things down to one really narrow issue and vote solely on that you run the risk of voting in 9 evils for the 1 "good" idea you're passionate about.
I've seen the way unions run in a scienc-ey type background. My gf is an immunohemotologist for a large non-profit organization. She's a lab scientist that tests blood for matches with specialized requests from hospitals.
Because the blood bank uses a manufacturing component to bag the blood and ship it to area hospitals, the lab workers are forced to be unionized. She can't earn a larger raise for doing better work than her peers because the union sets the pay increases during negotiation. She is the last in line for a day shift position since she was the last to join 2 years ago. Senior people have transferred departments at will, opening a day shift position up, yet she's unable to apply for the position since it's pretty much held open until the person who left decides to come back (which they usually do). That leaves them both short staffed on the day shift as well as relatively disgruntled on the second and evening shifts.
Pay is based on years in the union, not on merit. Vacation is not negotiable. Promotions grant increased responsibility without pay jumping along for the ride. Incompetent people within the lab are still continuing on just fine since the non-profit can't fire them. Union dues are about $60 a month, plus the union actively endorses (and this is a personal gripe, I know) political candidates that are the polar opposite of our personal politics.
Long ago unionizing helped workers and looked out for their best interests. I don't think it would be a fit at all for our industry.
I imagine it would be easy to sell in places like airports. Need a flash drive for a few extra GB on the plane? Why not one that already has a bit of entertainment on it?
From TFA I don't beleive it's meant to be just a movie conveyance.
Man who does not need bells and whistles says bells and whistles not needed. Story at 11.
Dude, that was awesome. Also, I loved the THX intro.
I don't have any mod points, but this is awesome.
If I have to use both hands to pee I'm buying a completely different app for that. iBrag.
Germans love David Hasslehoff.

You've obviously never been lied to about birth control then.
Fellow Minnesotan here. I'm betting we get the same amount of not-worth-the-cost.
I'd rather go one step further - instead of measures that will reduce patent troll-filed lawsuits, why not add a punitive measure?

Ditto. I'd love to see how they formulated the business plan to get the backing for this.
