I think part of the issue is the engineers taking some personal time and working on a competitive design to the NASA model. We did these missions in the late 60's and early 70's so it shouldn't be that damn hard to do. The only issue is most of the brains that developed those technologies are no longer with NASA and it wasn't documented enough or just stupidly thrown out. What NASA needs to do is get everyone together figure out the rockets and the designs and move on this thing and stop all the bickering and delays. We should be able to pull this off well before 2018!!! How about 2014 or 2015?
Better to just use AMD CPU and Nvidia Chipsets? Unless those are also exploited. The truth be told is if a hacker wants in and is smart enough given enough time they will find a way in. Up to this point Linux was not popular enough to truly target. Not so anymore. This is a wake up call. Linux is becoming more popular and there will be people who will write these exploits for it.
2009 is the year of Linux on the server and the desktop.
The kicker is that radio does not travel at the speed of light. Probably will take longer than 20 years. We should be using lasers emitting binary patterns or something. At least that way they should see something in 20 years. On and btw radio has been around since the 20's. Any of those broadcasts should have reached them by now and they are probably not interested or think we blew up after WWII.
It would benefit some but how much is it going to cost? That is the big question. Its not like this country has a ton of money to spend right now with trillion dollar deficits. Let alone that most people if it means walking for more then a city block would drive anyway. I would use it if it was convenient. Even though I am physically handicapped I would still walk it.
Well that now want to take more money away from working people who buy stuff online to save money. They will do anything to bleed blood from a turnip these days. Another fine example of the government not looking out for the well being of their constituents but their wallet. As soon as it begins to appear like a windfall of money they will vote for a raise for themselves. Federal reps do it every year. Yesterday is the start of the dissent people have with this. I for one think this is not a good idea at all. I buy online to get a good deal. Now with the stupid tax it won't be beneficial enough and might as well get it local. Online business suffers.
Took my thought on that. If Windows bundled applications in the OS install you would hear more gripes about how M$ is trying to distroy X because it wasn't included in the default install. From a user who used both Linux and Windows. Windows should be an OS install and leave the applications to the user or the OEM.
As a Vista User it will take some real show stopping demonstration to make me jump from Vista to 7. Vista for me is stable and jumping to a new windows OS without a service pack out is just risk by any stretch.
Acorn was enough to get him into power. Now this amnesty will keep him there for the next election. For those who voted for this clown thinking change was good well you got your change. Change is not always good as BO proves every day in office. I am not a fan of Bush either but the socialist agenda BO is putting out along with the bailout mess that he wants to continue and now this. Might be time for a revolution. Overthrow the damn government and start over with people who honestly care about the people who legally reside, live and WORK in this country.
We have already witnessed voter registration fraud at the hand of ACORN. Now they want to be part of the census? No one in their right mind would allow this. This country needs to start over with voter registration. You register to vote and must present your voter registration card at the time of your vote. If you don't have your card you don't vote. PERIOD. I voted in the last election and watched many people in front of me not even produce ID and were allowed to vote!! I am not saying any of this fraud would have changed the outcome of the last election. I don't know that. It does however put a cloud of suspicion over it. Until the US can come up with a better way to register people to vote and VERIFY them at the time of voting there will always be fraud in some form.
This argument is slightly flawed. Part of the issue is people on the road are more aggressive, drive with the cell phone in their ear, and are not courteous to their fellow drivers. From someone who has driven since the early 80's driving is way more dangerous now. In my state (IL) at least they have parents take their kids out for documented hours and must go through a drivers education course. Some will say that it is not enough but as a parent who just went through it less then 2 years ago it is a start. I made my child wait an extra year. Not ready for the license yet. Designing roads to slow people down won't solve the problems here. The problems in my area are there are not enough roads or enough flow on the local roads for the population. So then people get angry for having to ride in the passing lane of a 4 lane roadway behind someone who is just doing the speed limit so they display how they can whip through traffic even if the person they cut off has to slam on the brakes and almost cause accidents if not cause em. To get to the root of the problem the authorities need to increase the flow capacity of the roads but also need to enforce the current traffic laws and make it so painful to break the law that people won't. A 50 dollar ticket is not enough. Make it 500 and people will think twice. I know I will.
Leave the name alone and stop messing with the content. If the content doesn't match a certain target criteria then create a new Channel!! DUH!! G4 is another prime example. Sorry but when it was the TechTV and they have shows about computers (Leo comes to mind)it was fun. Not just another TVLand wannabe. This is what happens when TV gets over run by network executives. All the original content that really draws viewers is run out. Then a name change and then a different genre. Sorry folks but us computer geeks like shows with Linux and other operating systems being shown the general public and where you could ask questions while being entertained. I bet the black helicopter theorists will start with M$ did that to stiffle competition.
This really tells it like it is for people who have never tried Linux. With Ubuntu it is much easier for people who don't care to learn how to use it. Just click an icon and voila. I am surprised Steven didn't tell him about add and remove programs. There is a huge list of programs that can be installed from the GUI. That would be my only complaint with the article. My wife uses Ubuntu for her desktop and it works well. She likes it because it keeps the kids from installing all their stuff on her system. The IM clients, desktop addons among other things. Ubuntu is making a lot of head way for Linux. I am waiting for the next release to see what improvements are in store. Each release gets better and better. And I am user of both Linux and Vista. Like em both.
Obamanation would be a good name. Of course that means it will have to fail miserably and use up all the space stations resources and blame someone else.
I would agree as well. I used to buy American but haven't in years. Both my cars are foreign. Mitsubishi and Kia. Both cars are fuel efficient and with proper maintenance last. That is what GM, Ford, and Chrysler don't get. If you build a car, truck, SUV, etc. if the price tag is over 25 grand you have just priced it out of the market of more working class Americans. PERIOD. Kia, Hyundai get it. Mitsubishi is starting to get too expensive though. Honda and Toyota of old used to get it. Now alot of their models are over priced. You want to know how the American Car companies can make a huge comeback?!? Build a friggin car with good gas mileage, lasts longer than the car payments, and you don't have to take out a 6 or 7 year loan to friggin pay for!!! Chrysler almost gets it with the Dodge Caliber. That is a decent vehicle but loaded up at over 17 grand!!! Too high for that small a vehicle. Start it around 9 and fully loaded at 13,500 and you will have people falling in line to buy it. As long as the quality and the lifetime warranty are there. I know I won't go out and pay 30 g for a brand new anything. I don't want the car payments or the high insurance payments on the damn thing.
How about we stop slamming someone for asking a question and try to give them an honest answer. I bet the truth be told most of the people who left these rude comments don't have a friggin clue either. Instead of trying to answer the question they slam the person who asked. From documentation on the subject if you are doing alot of large rewrites it would probably be more cost efficient to use standard hard drives although slower in I/O. Most standard hard drives these days have 3 year warranties so if you burn one out send it back to the company that made it and get a new one. SSD is still a new technology and it may not be worth the risk versus cost for your project.
God this doesn't surprise me. With all the real important issues that residents of Illinois (I among them) that could be addresses this is just stupidity at the highest level. I think its time to vote all of these losers out of office and start over. First Illinois then Washington. Enough wasted time and spending already. Might be time to move but where? Canada?
This makes perfect sense!!! Instead of a static fine make it a percentage of your year gross wages!! That way it is fair right?!? The only issue could become that some cities where these celebrities live would purposely look for them so they could get more money. It would be similar to a police cruiser looking for speeders and picking out only the most expensive cars because it would be more likely for them to get more money for the ticket. I know it seems far fetched now but don't put it past some departments or cities. My 2 and half cents.
I must admit I am in the same boat. My first computer was a Commodore 64 with a 1200 baud modem that yes was a cartridge that plugged into the back of the keyboard. I still have mine and it still works. I remember the BBS boards and the rules about posting and the points systems. Those were fun!! Although the parents used to complain about the phone being tied up. We didn't have tone dialing either at that time so pulse dialing was painfully slow!!! Good memories and nice story!!!
That is the biggest flaw with your argument sir. You can't blame just the previous administration for other nations wanting to attack the US. Attacks have been made on US embassies before the previous administration as well as the attempted bombing of the world trade center. China has been stealing military secrets and is continuing to try. You can not lay this totally on the Bush Administration. Yes they did stir up some trouble but some was in retaliation of 9/11 and rightfully so in a lot of peoples minds. Until the radical clerics are run out of the Mosques (mispell?) for preaching hatred this will never stop. What the US needs to do is stop trying to Police the rest of the world and take care of more business here at home. Doesn't look like that will happen even in this administration.
It maybe that in the beta they are looking at these options. Hopefully they will just have home, business and ultimate as those make sense. Maybe a basic version if you have older hardware or meet the minimum system requirements and don't want all the eye candy and multimedia. At least we can hope they are more "honest" in the system requirements section. Running Vista on anything short of a dual core CPU is going to be aggrivating and at least 2 gig of ram (32 bit) or 4 gigs of ram (64 bit).
Anyone know if there will be a 32 bit version of Windows 7? They had talked about going strictly 64 bit after Vista.
If only this could be implemented. It is a well thought out and reasoned answer. The best one I have read here in awhile. Let's take it one step farther. If a person would like to be on a "list" that will allow telemarketing they should sign up for it. As long as that customer is on that list it should be acceptable. If not then the penalties should be as you stated. If we have a do not call registry why not an "ok to call registry"?
The problem is people have been using this "technology" to steal credit card information let along invasion of privacy (hence panty shot). Let's face it. Although I think they are trying to stop some people from illegally using the camera phone we all know the current phones will not have it and hacks to the phone to disable will be all over the web. If people were more careful (like when giving a credit card to a waitress/waiter in a restaurant) turn it so the damn numbers can't be photographed. Also people who handle them should be taught how to prevent theft of the numbers. This is borderline insane to propose a law like this. Next all cars will have to have constant beeping when backing up (like some trucks)!! And women, wear panties when out in public if you don't want pics of your lower half to be viewed by many. LOL
If the military is not smart enough to purchase this item from the person and investigate how and who placed those files on this player then security is an afterthought and obviously flawed. This type of information couldn't have been obtained by a low level recruit either but someone higher in the chain of command. Either the FBI or the CIA should look into this without military oversight so there is no chance of influence. I doubt it will happen but I hope they do.
Ok Folks. M$ is trying to improve the fiasco for some users or people who tried Vista and went to Linux or back to XP. Truth is unless you built a system with the proper hardware support for the operating system your results will more then likely be less then stellar and doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. I like Vista 64 bit. Works for me but I also run Linux. My wife uses Ubuntu and it works for her. If gaming ever got the point where any PC game could run (native not WINE) on Linux and was sold with the installer that could install on Linux I would probably ditch Windows for good. I don't see that happening any time soon. Each OS has its place for their users. Windows market share is decreasing and Linux adoption is on the rise. If this continues we could soon see more Linux applications/games being developed and more computer makers selling systems with installed Linux in the near future. I welcome that day although I build my own. But to say that Vista is a complete failure is not only incorrect but FUD. Alot of us remember windows ME. That was the last step from Win 98 to either 2000 or XP. Vista is going to be remembered by those users as an in between and hopefully M$ learned their lesson and Windows 7 will be the next XP only much better. Give em time. It is still only beta.
What business is it of an investor or anyone other then his immediate family about his personal health? The answer is no ones and now someone had the brain child to want to start an investigation into whether there were any "misleading" information. I could see this if he were say "The President of the United States" but not the CEO of Apple!!! Leave the man alone and if you want to sell of your shares of Apple because of news of speculation of his health then feel free to do so. But don't try to hold the company liable for withholding information. They should and should from here out tell anyone who inquires to read the HIPA regulations. Sorry but this sort of stuff just borders insanity IMHO. Apple will go on even if Steve leaves.
Macs won't overtake Windows as long as they have hardware lock in and their price. Their hardware is overpriced and the software is usually higher then the windows equivalent. Most customers will look at total cost before choosing an OS and right now Linux is a good bet if the admin is good with it. If not or they have someone with MCSE it will be M$ in the office and education system because of total cost.
