The Judge was holding up the entire process because he was insisting on reading all the cases rather than just listening to the synopsis from his aids or the two opposing attorneys. Outside the office of the judge was stacks and stacks of boxes all the way down the hall....all waiting his review. In comes a god. This god can see everything and will punish and reward you after your death. It's the perfect control tool. First of all, you don't have to prove anything or punish anyone. They will be judged after death. Death by itself is already scary (nobody enjoys dying), and the big question "what happens afterwards" has troubled people since the dawn of time. Here, you offer a solution and explanation, while at the same time offering punishment or reward depending on how you behave during life.

I've never accepted that hell exists. The concept is foreign to me because if I believed in god, it would be a force for good. The concept of torturing anyone for all eternity is opposite to a benevolent deity. I can't imagine God sitting in heaven being aware of everything and allowing torturing to continue after death forever. The sort of deity that would do that reminds me of the First in Buffy the Vampire Slayer when the First was torturing Spike, standing by with no physical presence letting it happen.

This country has gone quite insane, I'm sure.

It has been that way for awhile. Back during the Republican convention for Bush Sr in Houston, the police marched a peaceful AIDS protest into a dead end alley and blocked it off. Then after keeping the protesters trapped (My ex-wife remembers a 60 year old mother of an AIDS victim being prevented from leaving)the police charged in on horseback...right over a die-in (a form of protest where you lay on the ground.) Needless to say people got stepped on...

Ultimately nothing came of it...my ex-wife was the most credible witness because she wrote everything down immediately afterwards and sought medical treatment for where the police baton hit her. She had bone bruises which took months to heal. Oh and btw, she had taken some training on what to say if such an event happened...namely getting hit by police...she was told that she had to verbally say that she was being hurt to the person doing the hitting...guess what...he hit her again...knocked her glasses off making her blind as a bat...

The reason nothing came of it... it was at night and the badge number on the riot gear is in reflective tape....You need a good light source and not really be stressed to see it...

Other people that were more seriously hurt didn't want to testify because they were from out of state....

I was impressed with Sheila Jackson-Lee, who at the time was on Houston City Council. She was one of a few that wanted an inquiry and more details.

Another interesting bit, a couple of Republican friends of my ex-wife were at the convention as attendees and over heard some police officers talking about beating up some queers that night. They didn't think any of their friends would be there, so they didn't tell anyone until afterwards.

    To quote Reverend Martin Niemoeller:

"In Germany, the Nazis first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, but I didn't speak up because I was a protestant. The end result, if you care about the hobby, should be to get gaming news out to the heavy traffic sites.

Sure you can refer them to enworld, like you did, but don't slam the site just because the wording didn't meet your preference. Talk about the subject....I believe it is 4th edition.....

The most interesting rumor about this that Forgotten Realms will be refresh 100+ years into the future with most of the world destroyed.

The next news is that Demons and Devils are having to post for their jobs...with the Succubus being changed to a Devil and Erinyes being merged into the Succubus. Devils look human and Demons don't.

Since alignment is getting stretched in the new addition, some people are waiting to see the finished product before getting upset about the Devils&Demons.

2 classes are getting Axed in 4ed from core.

Wizards when they have cast all their spells will still be at 80% of the power...(sounds like they are merging with the warlock...i.e. getting some weaker constant magic spell...like a blaster spell)

Lots more changes...from what it sounds like they tossed out core D&D concepts and then played...if it didn't feel like D&D they added them back in....
