(regarding the first Linux Summit) The official part of it was actually very non-productive. The amount of work that got done over beer and at three in the morning cannot possibly be underestimated.
Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. continues to redefine the entertainment lifestyle
I was actually excited about this neat-o deal until I read this phrase. Doesn't it seem a bit silly to praise and promote a life filled with entertainment? Or am I being a joykill?
On the other hand, if entertainment is being redefined as Linux hacking, maybe there's a great deal more progress being made than I realized...
I have no doubt that the opposition would point out that the decentralized, free, and open nature of development and low maintainence overheads will mean less jobs for your area - and in a sector that VA has been spending a great deal of effort trying to attract.
Of course, you could always just not mention it at all. I'm just saying.
More helpfully, you could always 'issue a blue-ribbon commision to study the gains that could be made by switching to more reliable and less expensive software models'.
Starts out more measured, and then explains the rather-certain benefits of the proposed proposal. Heh.
I found it tedious. It really didn't keep my attention. It's a cute gimmick, but I just didn't care about the plot. Of course, I didn't like Sixth Sense, either. So, take that for what you will.
Apparently, I'm notorious for not liking movies everyone else likes.
Unconventional movies I've liked would include things like Rushmore, and Being John Malkovich.
1) When did this Friend/Nuetral/Foe thing show up? 2) Is it just me, or are the Friend & Foe images not available, and 3) Why.gif's? - can't they use, oh, anything else, even text?
That is their stated goal, but to get there they are cloning humans.
The paper reports that the somatic nuclei showed evidence of reprogramming to an embryonic state as evidenced by pronuclear development (a type of nucleus observed only in the fertilized egg) and by
early embryonic development to the six-cell stage.

Microsoft tends to do the opposite. They put the break [sic] on the right and the gas on the left. I'm referring of course to their ordering of dialog buttons, which puts the affirmative/"go ahead" button (typically "OK) on the left, and then negative/"go back" button on the right. This contrasts with the way that Western culture (as well as the mac) does it. In a car, the left pedal stops the car, the right pedal goes ahead.... Apple was smart enough to understand this; Microsoft wasn't.
They do this on purpose. It's another way to make sure that the user really means 'Yes' or 'OK' when they click it. As in: 'Are you sure you would like to delete everything on your hard drive?' [OK] [Cancel]
Think of it as a sort of built-in check against the user's likelyhood to drill through these dialog boxes by simply clicking 'yes'. I find it to be a less intrusive solution than having an "Are you REALLY REALLY sure you want to do this?" dialog box attached to everything.
This IS the killer platform...

If XBox can be made into a viable platform for a (pc-like) 'desktop' Linux system, it would be a great step forward - and with (I assume) the XBox hardware being a loss-leader, this could very well go a long way towards 'killing' MS.
Upon examination of Microsoft programs, it is revealed that they are, in fact, only simple sequences of ones and zeros. Through proof of prior art (ones and zeros have been used for many things throughout history), the court has determined that Microsoft may no longer continue to assert ownership of their products.
A little off subject, but right now rock band Weezer is getting screwed by their label.
This site has a good history of the story.

I wonder if anyone's made a Chia-tux?

Even better is this comment that points to an even older paper, and then says:

Well, if you can't even view it outside of a single DVD region, it's not much of a guide to the galaxy, now is it?
There's no mention in the article of the impact or importance of this observation.
Anyone? Anyone?

Has anyone out there tried this with windows? I wonder what the store's reaction would be...?
