    The system tray icon API takes about 15kb of ram, and you can use your system even if everybuddy takes 2 hours to load up...

    None of those except norton should effect boot time. Norton, however, is a PoS and should be replaced by something that doesn't try to take over the system.

    Seriously. The phrase "Free Software" as RMS uses it is so worthless that starting from scratch with a new term would be better than continuing this debacle.

    If I said I was going to give you "Free Accomidation," would you take that as:
    1. You can stay at my place for no cost
    or
    2. I am transferring full rights of my place to you, including the ability to change the wallpaper in my bathrooms, rearrange my living room, and if you wanted, bulldoze the house and put up a tent?

    If Toyota has a contest for a "FREE CAR," do they give you the car, or the car + rights to the technology in the car + the plans to make the car + schematics of the electrical system + source code to the ECU + ....

    I mean, for fuck's sake, call it "Unrestricted Software." There. I've done it. Problem solved.

    Hell, it even has a cool meme. "'US' is software for all of us".

    Welcome to 2002, at the latest. E-Tax is available for anyone to download and file (and pay) electronically. I run my own business and I used it. It coveres everything in any tax pack and the suppliments, not just "simple" taxes.

    (We also use PKI to validate online quarterly business activity statements and other higher-tech, paper-saving measures).

    This is why:
    Mass Virtual Hosting with php:
    1. set up apache for mass virtual hosting (likely with some control panel)
    2. load mod_php
    3. done

    Now sure there's security risks, but if you use safe mode and restrict your base dir, you can alleviate a lot of that.

    Now compare that to mass virtual hosting with jsp/servlets:

    1. Load a seperate instance of tomcat per user on your machine

    That's a big thing to do, and can result in a LOT of memory being used compared to the "1 apache to serve them all" model. That's why you won't see it on most 5$/month type hosting models, but will see it on dedicated (you get your own full server or virtual server) hosting models.

    You are 100% incorrect. You're allowed to create your own slipstreamed driver and service pack disk, regardless of whether you're a home user or a business user. Microsoft even gives you a tool called "sysprep," which is for rolling out your own windows images.

    In addition, they have a cool tool which will add a file to your windows cd image (which you then burn) toauto-answer all of the questions asked during install.

    1. After the success of buffy and angel, Universal has "faith" in Joss's ability to draw people in.

    2. The sales data for the DVDs are supporting evidence for #1 and #3

    3. It didn't make it out of its first season due to internal Fox politics, nothing to do with the quality of the show itself.

    If it was just the show, why is Fox refusing to sell the TV rights to Universal/UPN (like they did for angel AND buffy after canning them)? It's only through a contract oversight that Joss was allowed to have Universal make the movie; Fox has firefly (as well as the next 2-3 show ideas Joss has) "locked up" as far as TV series go for the next something like 5-6 years.

    They talk about all of this in the extras on the DVD, but in an obtuse way to avoid lawsuits and the like. If you put that together with some Joss and co interviews, it paints a very specific picture.

    Technically your servers should be (and likely are by some lists) blacklisted if postmaster is not a wide open address. I know of at least two blacklists that work ONLY based on failing to adhere to internet mail conventions.

    toddestan below my replied about theme service, but do THIS to put windows into "turbo" mode:

    Right Click on "My Computer"->properties
    "Advanced" tab->"Performance" box->"Settings" button
    "Visual Effects" tab->"Adjust for best performance"

    Click apply/ok, and enjoy XP which has no eye candy and is even faster than 2k/98.

    What large and expensive infrastructure?

    * .NET download is free
    * mono is free and works great for server apps and is getting there for forms based apps
    * sharpdevelop is free and lets you write c#.net and VB.net. It's an EXCELLENT tool

    I'd say the cost of getting into VB.net is cheaper than VB6, because it's free. There were no free IDEs for VB6 that I know of.

    Why do you need two FXOs? The outgoing to packet8 would be via sip uplink. It would be INCREDIBLY silly to go FXO-> DTA 310 -> Ethernet again!!!

    Here is how to do it:

    So now you're down to 1 FXO and 1 FXS. However, you can, if you choose, "downgrade" your now unused DTA-310's firmware to an older version that lets you set which server to log into. Set it to log into your Asterisk server, and suddenly you don't need an FXS because your DTA-310 does the job!

    Moving to a super-fast raid0 array with a large cache and the quickest drives you can find WILL improve level loading times, but will give you a 0% frame rate boost in modern games. SLI is about getting higher FPS in modern games, or letting you get the same FPS with more "stuff" turned on.

    Adding a faster HD setup is great for a business computer, but does dick all for a gaming machine. You spend maybe 1% of your time loading games and 99% playing them.

    Sweet, so when can I expect you to wire me the money for an upgrade for a datacenter with onsite service included, and a serial console application? I'm paying 99$ a month for 2tb bandwidth, amd 2400+ with 1gb ram, and 60gig hd. Match that, or offer to pay the difference, and I'm there.

    I KNOW that I can download the disc image and stick it into grub as my boot image, with VNC set on startup, but that is a shitty way to do it compared to:
    1. edit sources.list
    2. apt-get update
    3. apt-get dist-upgrade
    as well as dangerous if it doesn't work out.

    allofmp3.com is not legal unless you live in russia, it's just that they don't check.

    From their site:
    "Users are responsible for any usage and distribution of all materials received from AllOFMP3.com. This responsibility depends on the local legislation of each user's country of residence. AllOFMP3.com's Administration does not keep up with the laws of different countries and is not responsible the actions of non-Russian users."

    They're also about to be shut down by russian police because the license they have to distribute was likely not genuine.
