I absolutely have to echo the kudos to the folks at TLC.
I was at -2/-2.25 diopters (right/left). Now i'm 20/20 on bad days and 20/15 on good ones. Strangely enough, the bad days only seem to happen when I'm sick or when I'm REALLY tired.
The best thing about TLC is that as long as I continue to get yearly checkups I get free lifetime corrections if my vision ever drops below a threshold (don't remember what that is though).
You can disable return receipts in Notes (I'm using R6 so tweaking may be required for earlier versions) by adding this bit of code to the QueryOpen section of the Memo and Reply forms.
Set doc = Source.document Dim answer As Integer If Not ( source.IsNewDoc ) Then If doc.ReturnReceipt(0) = "1" Then If Msgbox( "Send Return Receipt to " + doc.from(0) + "?", 4+32+256 , "The sender requested a return receipt." ) = 7 Then doc.ReturnReceipt = "0" Call doc.save ( True , True , True ) Print "Return Reciept disabled. No message will be sent to " + doc.from(0) End If End If End If
In the QueryOpen statement there are a few lines of code already there. Simply add this snippet after the third line and before the fourth line.
It'll prompt you every time you open an e-mail with a return receipt attached to it, whether you want to send the return receipt or not.
There is a very good reason it was cut out: It actually wasn't. At least, not yet. The shattered sword, is not repaired until The Return of the King
Not true. The shards of Narsil were handed down through the years to each of the Elendil's heirs. Aragorn wielded no weapon at all (except the flaming brand on Weathertop) until after the Fellowship departed Rivendell.
The Sword of Elendil was forged anew by Elvish smiths, and on its blade was traced a device of seven stars set between the crescent Moon and the rayed Sun...And Aragorn gave it a new name name and called Anduril, Flame of the West.
Page 290 - The Fellowship of the Ring - The Ring Goes South
I understand that a lot had to be cut for time, and to add some hollywood moments here and there, but why remove the repair of Aragorne's sword?
This bugged me a little bit too. IIRC (and I'm sure that I do) Aragorn was NOT represented as a reluctant heir to the throne of Men. Narsil was supposed to be carried by Aragorn, and used to validate his claim at the Prancing Pony that he was a friend of Gandalf's. My guess is that when the Rangers of the North show up in the Two Towers they bring the sword reforged to him. But damn! I missed seeing Anduril, Flame of the West!
I tried to log on to my MSN account using my Powerbook running OS X and the Mail.app program last night, and it wouldn't recognize my user id (even though it was correct). Time to cancel my MSN account (especially, since I don't have any Windows PC's anymore).
Did you see the split in the votes last night? Half the country doesn't wan the other guy to be president
Actually...Since only half the country voted on election day, you can really only say that 25% of the country believes that one guy or the other will screw up.
If you take the time to look at the actual numbers, you will find that most Americans are:
Fiscally Conservative - meaning they want more of their money to stay their money
Socially Liberal - meaning they believe in Social Security, Medicare, and similar govt programs and in a lot of cases favoring abortion.
In a way that may seem very contradictory, but think about it for a while...It makes real sense....
There's a pretty good opinion piece on MacOpinion titled The Number of the Beast" that you guys might find interesting. Talks about how the government has always been listening in on the Internet and points out some fairly interesting facts...
You're wrong here buddy. Have you even read the license? The d20 System Reference Document will be release under the OGL and will be available for modification, redistribution, and extension by anyone! The only thing that you are NOT able to do is use the d20 System LOGO, which would indicate that you are compatible with D&D.
And I don't think that anyone here has touched on this, but the OGL does do something that the GPL doesn't. It does allow for the exclusion from the license of certain things within the work. This is an extremely important to those artists who contribute artwork, songs, and/or poems to an OGL work.
Daemon != Demon. Demon == Outerplanar Monster Daemon == Disk And Execution MONitor
Actually, with regards to the D&D universe...You are wrong.
Devils are the Lawful Evil residents of the Nine Hells
Demons are the Chaotic Evil residents of the Uncounted Layers of the Abyss
Daemons are the Neutral Evil residents of the planes in between. Deities like Nerull (from Greyhawk) are in these planes. Also refer to the Monster Manuals (or maybe Fiend Folio) for information on Daemons.
Well I hope D20 is a mechanically better system than AD&D's ludicrous table-driven approach.
Actually, from everything that I have seen it IS better. Check out Eric Noah's D&D 3rd Edition News for more complete information.
All the old terminology is still there, but instead of having all the reverse arithmetic of THAC0's and armor class, or the "You've gotta roll high to pass this saving throw check, but you've gotta roll low to make the attribute check," Everything has been standardized to be worked off of the d20.
For example, instead of having to look up on a chart what your saving throw vs Paralysis, Poison, or Death Magic was, the DM comes up with a number that you have to beat. You then use you're Fortitude bonus (which is now one of the three saving throws out there) and add it to your roll on a d20. Beat the number, you make it...don't beat the number...uhoh! This is the mechanic that the entire system is built off of now.
Check it out...Looks to be much more playable now.
Let's not forget demons and devils. We can't call them that any more, parents might get upset
Actually, from what I understand, 3rd Edition will no longer be calling them Baatezu, Yuggoloths, and T'annari...When the new Monster Manual is released it's back to fighting Devils, Daemons, and Demons...
The only problem on my copy of The Matrix is while watching the scene where Fishburne and co leave the old abandoned building to go see the oracle it skips to the very next scene of the door to the Oracle's apartment opening...in order to see the scene as they go from the building to the Oracle I've got to 'rewind' back...Not a big problem, but it is annoying.
For a really fine example of this kind of technology you can check out David Brin's Earth. This kind of program is in use throughout the whole novel, although he obviously does not call them Clothos. They range from filters to ferrets, and they are almost all custom designed. One of the characters has a built in random factor in to her filter, that just went out at random and grabbed a piece of information and sent it off to the owner. Pretty cool idea...
Dude! Chill out and smell the roses...or do geeks/nerds not enjoy that either?
I'm a geek and I will be the first to admit that I am in love with Ohio State football and basketball. Given a choice between my PC and a game...I choose both.
While, I'm not partial to the Yankees (being a Cleveland fan for the past ten years). This is definately a cool thing.
Sure you could build a faster x86 machine. And monkey's will fly out of my butt!
You take your fastest PII system and put it next to a G4 system running the same set of SETI@Home data and the G4 will be done in 6 to 7 hours. The PII will take over a day.
And don't forget that these machines are classified as Supercomputers and can't be exported out of the country to T&E countries, and that the low end model of the G4 only costs $1599, only $300 more than the iMac.
I love my Mac, and I've only owned mine for 4 weeks!
I'm not sure about the actual specs that would define a computer as being a 'supercomputer', but I do know that my Powerbook G3 (333MHz) was listed on Apple's webpage as being unavailable for export.
I find it interesting that AOL is doing nothing to promote ICQ. Which, IMNHO, is a much better instant messaging client than anything that is currently out there...
A quote from the article:
"Separately, America Online and Novell Corp. on Thursday announced that Novell, a network software provider based in Provo, Utah, had licensed the AOL Instant Messenger software and planned to build it into its Netware Directory Services software for corporate users."
In light of all these 'licensing' deals that AOL is making, I recall that no mention of ICQ has ever been made.
Once again, IMNHO, AOL is trying to kill any kind of 'IM' that isn't their own, despite the fact that they own ICQ now...
As a European I'm stunned that americans doesn't see the cause: That civilans have semi-automatic guns at home!!!
That is NOT the reason why this ocurred. In the US we have laws ON THE BOOKS prohibiting the alteration of the long barreled shotgun to a form that makes it easy to conceal (i.e. the sawed off shotgun that these kids used). In the US we have laws ON THE BOOKS prohibiting the sale of semi-automatic 'Assault Rifle' weapons.
The problem with these laws is THEY ARE NOT ENFORCED!!!
We do not need more laws muddling up the picture, what we do need is to ENFORCE the laws already in place!
All kids here in Europe (in France at least) play doom, listen to american bands but we never had a such bad fight.
Well then, why don't you explain to me why when I was in Dresden and Vienna almost two years ago, when I came upon some neo-Nazi demonstrations that certainly could have approached the level of what ocurred in Colorado.
Give me a break!
Dude, I don't care where you live, if I really wanted to get a gun, I'm would be able to get a gun, and more than likely, no one is going to find out until after that gun has been used.
the major players here are someone who didn't bother or didn't succeed to instill a sense of morality
Er, no. The major players here are those whose teasing and taunts drove someone to lash back.
(The quote in Bold is from the previous message)
All right, you're saying that the real perpetrators of this crime are the various Jocks, Soshs, and Primadonnas of the Colombine HS social structure because they picked on some kids they thought were weird.
That's bullsh*t!
Puhleeze! If that were the case, I would've blown up with explosives all three high schools that I attended and shot anybody trying to escape with a high powered rifle. Give me a break. Now, I'm willing to concede that being an outcast from your peers tends to make a person develop socially in different ways, but I turned out all right and I was an 'outcast' in HS...
Hmmmm....Haven't bought anything on that list anyway...no loss for me...
Next!
Actually, they were all running on AIX (4.3.something IIRC) when I left IBM in 2000.
Especially when [insert class here]s are so awesome?

PHB is the acronym for Pointy-Haired Bosses...you know...like in Dilbert....
That's already been answered up above...

Hello!!??!!
Since when did I declare myself as an atheist...???
That's news to me...
Spiritual does not necessarily mean religious. Personally, I think you need to learn to speak for yourself and not for others...
I enjoy Katz's writing...I bought the book.
