Ah, so a mod that is in development is doomed to failure? Interesting to know.

I assume you think Diablo 3 is likewise doomed to fail. After all, the downloads section of the site only has videos and wallpapers.

Freeworlds is already released under its 18.xx version. Freeworlds: Tides of War (aka 2.0) is slated for an early 2011 beta release.

I should know, I'm on the development team and I can tell you there is no way this doesn't get released. Not after all the work that's been done, such as porting the game to DX9 and making high-polygon models for all the ships. You are considering Freelancer as it was in 2003 - today's reality is much different. You should take a closer look.

It's obvious that it isn't a threat, it's obviously said by an angry person over missing his flight and I honestly am totally stunned by how this thing blew out of proportions.

It takes skill and cunning to be a con artist, something which very few people have. You should respect their profession instead of denigrating it as "fraud".

Ah! Artists are never really understood by the masses.

Big, big correction here: SSDs are only affected by writes. You can write to them a finite number of times, but read from them for as long as the device is physically in good shape. If you know your SSD is becoming old, you can make it a read-only storage and have it work forever. Magnetic hard drives have a tendency to fail catastrophically; SSDs will never do that, and that is a very large plus for them.

I could say that RIM has, in fact, sold 100x more BBs than Apple has sold iPhones in the last 70 years. What exactly makes my or the parent's sayings have any credibility? I'm not saying they're wrong (although it does look a little suspicious that you essentially contradict the GP directly by saying that iOS outsells Android when Android has more market share in the US from the data provided), but until what you've said has been backed up, it's all hot air.

Plus, your demand quality part is ironic; wouldn't that be a thinly veiled attack saying that Android does not offer quality? So much for not being a fanboy...

  25. Re:One other thing on Desktop Linux Is Dead · · Score: 1

Even then, it still requires effort to make the switch. If you go to Best Buy (and while geeks here don't do that, plenty of people do) to buy a desktop, it will come with Windows, whether you like it or not. Since Linux is striving to be able to do all that Windows can do, then since you've already paid for Windows, it's already installed for you and it's what you're familiar with, then why exactly bother switching?

The only possible reason that would make people switch would be for Linux, whatever the distribution, became better in a very recognizable fashion. Being less affected by malware is not enough; your common layperson probably knows a geek who'll fix it for them for free, or they'll actually think it's normal "wear and tear" and that after a few years, a computer has gone "slow" and needs to be replaced, while in fact it's just their bad computer hygiene screwing up their OS. Since no big advertising is done and since a great majority of people behave that way, there's no real reason that would ever change.

Remember, humans are creatures of habit.
