The only problem is the cost of the solution, and the bandwidth problem. only 10 clients could run at the same time because of the bandwidth demand. But they recently told us that this limit will actualy be 5 (with the proposed server) because besides the bandwidth problem, the server couldn't handle correctly the load for more than 5 clients at the same time.

That's not true. I have personally seen this setup run a whole lab full of computers and several of those 'conference labs' you use to check email, etc. when you are at a conference. And they worked great.

Just wanted to add my two cents. I like the Sun rays and they I think they make a much better 'information appliance' than the hacked pc's I often see used for that, which break down and are broken into regularly.

As someone who works with just that type of information on a regular basis, your school should be able to issue you a system-generated alternate ID number from the range that is reserved for such numbers. Where I work, we issue those to foreign students and to domestic students who don't want to provide their SSN. Everyone else uses their SSN's, and hopefully alleviating your fears somewhat, that information is not sold or made available outside of the university except as is required by some government agencies. Your university should be able to explain exactly who has access to your SSN. If not, I would push like hell for that system-assigned ID :-)

Still, even with a screen, it would have to have a conical structure with "vents" so that the birds would hit the cone and roll through the vents instead of just being sucked on to a screen that they could never escape from.

It couldn't have worked out better, but honestly, it took a lot of work over the last couple years so that I could get that call when I really needed it. And it wasn't treating the guy like shit, but more of the honest, caring variety.

Maybe women DO NOT want to be treated well as some of the posts have stated. That's not what I have been hearing from my women friends lately though. They seem VERY interested in guys who really care about them AND are interested in sex.

The fact that they will be releasing the C# language specification to an open standards body unfortunately already gives them a head start on the credibility.

Lately I have been wondering just how much the open standards body submittal helps. Sun, IBM, et.al. have made amazing progress on Java so far, and it is questionable whether they could have moved anywhere near as fast with Microsoft breathing down their necks in the standards process. Cross-platform capabilities probably would have been the first feature to go.

The recent submission of an interview with Bjarne Stoustrup clearly showed the trouble he has gone through with having standards implemented, and the length of time it has taken to achieve what C++ has. One of the largest problems? Microsoft.

So, Microsoft wants to submit their work to a standards body. What will happen as soon as someone threatens their control? All I can say is, based on their past behavior, C# *must* be a throw-away language for them. Open standards pretty much never seems to fit their business model unless they have no choice. But then, maybe at this point they *don't* have a choice.
