  20. These guys are idiots on Divx Now Adware Supported Only · · Score: 1

I met a sales exec for these guys at Internext in Florida at the beginning of august.

Keep in mind that he's at an internet porn convention..

Now, his spiel is that we should use DivX on all of our sites because it is "better" than WMV, and that they have an installed base of 80 million users. (He justified that by saying they have 80 million downloads.)

I said, sorry, as a paysite guy, WMV and MPG1 are good enough, and without an auto-codec download with WMP, DivX would never fly as a replacement.

I asked him why we would ever want to reencode all of our video in an additional format that has no benefits over WMV or MPG1. His answer was that it is "free" - I begin to think he is on crack.

He then goes on to tell me how DivX is the most popular format on Kazaa. (The place where we get our content pirated on)...

Then, after pressing, he admits this little gem:

"I'm sorry, we don't actually license our codec to the adult industry."

I'm sorry, WTF are you doing here again?

"So you'll give it to the people who pirate our content, but you won't license it to the content producers?"

    "Yes."

You fucking moron. Expect DivX on fuckedcompany very soon, if it's not already there.

You obviously don't know shit about processing credit cards in the "high risk" sector, which is what penis pills and porn sites are.

You think Visa takes the hit on a chargeback? Or the bank? No, it's the company the made the charge. They get a pretty hefty fine, and can possibly get terminated by Visa/MC if their chargeback ratios are too high.

Do you think they are going to PAY the spamming moron that is carding them? No, they're not. Not to mention that most IPSPs (third party CC processors) are pretty good at catching carding these days. And even some of the merchant account gateways are good these days. ESPECIALLY for high risk.

He screwed Woz over on their first ever cash deal.

He pushed Woz out of the company.

When he came back out of his ouster for his crap, he pushed out Gil Amelio, killed all of his projects (Newton anyone?), fired all of the people he hired, claimed credit for the financial reform that Amelio had accomplished (Apple was going for bankrupt, Amelio turned it around).

On top of that, as soon as he got in, he made an unnecessary $150 million deal with Microsoft that Amelio had refused because they didn't need the cash, and because Gates wouldn't give him what he wanted (timely ports of MS Office).

Jobs sucks. The fact that Apple has come back is nice and all, but that doesn't change the fact that there's a dumbass piece of shit running it.
