I know it is not *as* popular as some of the others but Toontown Online http://www.toontown.com/ is doing quite a few things for halloween with special house decorations, special outfits to buy, halloween decorations throughout the enviroments, and special Skelle-Cogs to fight! Very cool.
ARGH. I realize this is Slashdot and all but can't we cut a big company a break once and a while? Look for the good occasionally - not just the bad. The patent thing is awesome and something that should be remembered next time the Disney bashers come out the woodwork..
(and yes.. I realize my nick means I am somewhat biased:) )
I feel bad and perhaps it is because I feel ripped off by the "you have to buy 20 diferent calculators during your schooling monopoly" (i.e. Class A requires TI-83 Class B requires TI-84, ect.. and no they will not let you substitute a diferent model number) but it seems like a racket. 99.999999% of the functions are available with palm os and windows CE software.. Why pay all this cash for a limited device when I can buy a cheap palm that can do 3x as much.. Oh yeah: The monopoly at school.. thats why.
There are three things at Walt Disney World that use the same concept. R2D2 in the Disney Stars and Motor Cars parade at the Disney-MGM Studios, The talking palm tree at Disney's Animal Kingdom and "Push" the talking trash can at the Magic Kingdom. It is the guy with the messenger bag that controls them.. (once you spot him it's painfully obvious.. but most people never notice) and he also does the voice.. you will notice him speaking into his hand occasionally.
Not to mention almost all credit cards say on the back "NOT VALID UNLESS SIGNED" which means by putting that "check ID" crap (which does annoy anyone who works with credit cards BTW.. also not signing your card because you think it protects you) does NOTHING and I don't have to take your card since you are in violation of your credit card agreement.
Being something of a nerd, I'm incredibly popular with these cousins, especially the ones who are 8-11.
Welcome to being a teenage nerd.
Fortunatly you have started reading slashdot at a young age so you will learn all sorts of incredibly cool and geeky stuff and probably make a decent living and have cool tech toys.
Unfortunatly being popular with cousins aged 8-11 will be a theme for your entire life.
It does and that's why there are public betas. Once the software gets out there in the open apple becomes liable (not from a legal but from a public relations standpoint) from any damage or drama the software causes. Would you like your software to be labled instable or buggy simply because someone in corprate wanted more testers out there?
Look.. This is a wonderful first step and frankly I am glad that it is an option for those folks who want to spend the time and the money. But america has turned into a nation of people with no attention span and it takes quite a lot of time to find a box.. find peanuts..arange for the delivery and...mmmmm.. new program on Tivo........ .
Perhaps I don't understand but the whole reason I purchased an iMac was to have the great OS and the suite of apps that came with it. The hardware is good but nothing that amazing and could be purchased on the pc side for a lot less money if all you are going to do is turn around and install a linux distro. Am I missing why this is a "Good Thing"?
The government's going to replace travelocity.com!
Now if they could just replace Orbitz so I could constantly feel like they were watching me during the 1,000 times a day I close that darn pop-up window!
Hate to break it to you but you would also have to cary a Game Boy Advance and the bulky e-reader in your pocket as well. Well..unless you can fit the card directly into your skull..
I think their best revenue model would be to integrate the technology with the next generation of Digital Cable Boxes from companies such as time warner. TWC already has a very good interface for looking at and searching for the programs you want, take that to the next level, make the box a tad bigger, throw in a hard drive and you have a tivo box that the cable installer will put in for you. Then just charge the consumer an extra 10-15 bucks a month if they want that service.
>after which IS will plunge into the ocean
>Could you guys ever use an spell checker?:-)
Yeah.. because a spell checker would catch "is".. gosh that is so horribly misspelled.
I don't want a cell phone.. I don't need a cellphone.. but peer preasure is getting to me.. Plus all the friggin pay phones in the area are COCOT's and wont recognize the new area code they created in the area for cell phones so if I try and call my friends cell phone it says it has to be a long distance call.. If I try it with a 1 then the area code it says it doesnt require an area code.. DOH! BTW.. the operator and the phone company is no help and they don't care..
That's not the point.. The point of all of this is to get the infastructure.. We need that for future things.. Everything should and could and will be connected to the net.. Who cares if you can surf in the car.. But if my radio can d/l MP3's without there being a laptop..then I will be happy..

I could be wrong, but a strong powered BB-Gun would be all that's needed to blow them out of the water!
So by using this logic, what would Japanese Hentai Games teach me?
