Please mod this down. Gore Vidal and Vidal Sasson are two completely different people and this issue is too important to clutter with unfunny dreck such as this.
They weren't fighting in single combat. They were fighting as an army, not to mention they were fighting with a human army, in the style of human combat. Who knows how the elves would have fared by themselves, with equal numbers.

Have you ever priced an alexandrite ring? Diamonds are cheaper. WAY cheaper. Of course, there is always synthetic alexandrite...but then we are back to the fake thing again...
The trouble with orbital flight is that there is a hell of a lot of stuff orbiting up there already. You wouldn't want to accidentally run into any of it, either. Some of it is classified. I would assume (don't know for sure) that only NASA knows for sure where it all is and how to safely avoid it all. Better to stick with suborbital for now, at least until NASA collapses under it's own weight (should happen any day now).
I for one don't recall hearing any directors or studios complaining about the damage to their artistic vision when their films get edited for TV audiences and they get a big royalty check...
You might also note that the directors in the lawsuit are not the type of directors that have their films shown on TV. If they are, you can be sure that they are getting paid for it. They don't see a dime of this.
At the root of the problem is the media and campaign finance.
Think about how often you hear or read about the PATRIOT Act. Or the DMCA. Think about where you hear/read about them...online, in what traditionally would have been called "alternative" media.
The mass media today is a corporate interest, paid for and run by the same CEOs that donate millions to campaigns. The CEOs of the same companies that hold the copyrights protected by the DMCA.
ABC is a prime example. They are wholly owned by the Disney company. This is a direct quote from my congressman, Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), when I said to him, "Fight the DMCA" (He was standing in *my* office at the time, asking for my vote): "You can't tell Disney that they no longer hold the copyright on Mickey Mouse." Needless to say, he didn't get my vote last fall.
The majority of the American public doesn't read news online. They don't read the alternative press. They rely on CNN and the networks to bring them their news. They read USA Today. They read their local papers.
Do you think this mass media has any interest whatsoever in revealing the pitfalls and Constitutional ignorance of these laws? No, they want *their* laws passed by the congressmen they paid to elect. When they start spouting off about the Consitutional validity of the PATRIOT Act, they lose support from their congressmen. When they lose support, they've wasted their money.
So you don't see any questioning in the media anymore. The media was traditionally seen in this country as "the fourth estate," and it kept the politicians in check. All they are interested in now is almighty dollar. And the country suffers for it.
The public doesn't know the problems with the laws in this country. They just hear what the media reports, which is limited to 15-second sound bites of press releases and statements given at press conferences. Investigative reporting is almost non-existent at this point in history, and I weep for our country because of it.
...that the lawyers in this case, who are US Federal Employees, prosecuted someone for copyright infringement at the behest of Microsoft. Microsoft, a company that has been found guilty in US federal court of violations of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. That means YOUR TAXES paid to defend the ability of Microsoft, a company found guilty of FEDERAL CRIMES, to do business. You think this will come out in the mass media?
You should write your congressman immediately, but you won't because you are too busy watching your DVDs and playing your games to bother with that. Nevermind, move along. Oh, since you're not going to be using your vote this November, can I have it?
The government should appoint a team of unbiased experts to study the benefits and downfalls of differing lengths and mechanisms of copyright, come to a final conclusion about what would most "promote the progress of science and useful arts," and go with that.
The government already does this; they are generally called "Judges," or in some cases, "Justices."
"As such we would appreciate hearing from you within ten days so that we can prepare the necessary written assurance that you will discontinue all use of the name PCI and associated logo and any confusingly similar name or logo."
Nowhere in that cease and desist letter does it say that he cannot continue to host the website and database. They want him to stop using their trademarked logo and name. Having those TRADEMARKS on the website along with his content could very easily mislead someone into thinking that is an official PCI-SIG website. That situation is what PCI-SIG are trying to avoid, and the reason that any company sues for trademark infringement.
Has he heard the first thing from anyone at PCI-SIG or have any concrete evidence that PCI-SIG wants the database out of commission? Jim, please put the database back up; you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. Bitching about how they "clearly" want the site gone is not going to win you any fans at PCI-SIG and is only going to hurt the open source community in the long run.
etree actually grew out of People for a Clearer Phish and the fine pholks at sugarmegs.org. Sugarmegs was already serving MP3 and RealAudio shows, and the PCP guys were putting Phish (and slowly but surely, other bands) on CD for the masses. These two groups got together and started PCP-Etree. Eventually the "standards" of PCP got to some of the guys and they took etree.org off on its own. I was the first mailing list admin for pcp-etree and eventually merged that list into etree.org a few months after etree.org was created. So you can really thank the PCp guys for the whole genesis. No, you can thank Phish. No wait, thank the Grateful Dead. Or maybe the the first guy who banged a drum.
I guess the point is that etree popularized the.shn format, and it was early members of PCP who started etree.:)

And I am on that network too. Right now I can't even check my email from home. Someone please mirror for us...
