And when exactly will there be a *NIX equivilant to Citrix Metaframe? Then and only then would I see these diskless thingys as a serious contender.
Booting from a network server is nice and everything, but having the processing power moved from the client, and to the server, makes for dumber terminals, smarter servers, and less trips to hold the hands of the lusers.
For some odd reason, I seem to have developed a wee bit of respect for the antiquated mainframe technology of the forgone years.......
As a co-owner and server admin for digitaladdiction.net (ya, the site looks ugly. I'm working on it), I am openly wondering how they will look upon game servers. Will our site (and game servers) require 'Adults only' signs? Will we have to regulate who connects to our game servers? Christ, we have the #1 rated CounterStrike server, along with a couple q2 servers, and I would not look forward to doing 'Age verifications' in order to let people play. As you can tell by our Addicted Users Page (which is hidden right now - I'm working on it), we *do* have a few players who are under the age of 18 (hell, a good 40% of our players are under 18), and I would not look forward to telling them to play elsewhere...........
It is hard not too. My parents pushed for French in my elementary school, and I actually *liked* French. I thought it was cool that I lived in a country with 2 official languages.
Then, I grew up. I became politically aware. I saw the statistics, and I saw the attitude. I felt mildly raped...........
Why accept a distinctly beautiful.... a distinctly CANADIAN subculture, when they cannot accept the rest of us? Distinct culture? Perhaps if blind arrogance is a defining trait, then yes, Quebec is a distinct culture....
I may sound like a rednek Alliance member, but I am speaking from the heart. This fact should scare you........
The highest drug crime rate is within a 4 BLOCK RADIUS OF PIGEON PARK, IN DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER. This does not constitute 'Vancouver', only a small part of it.
Hacking can be useful in a controlled environment where there are ground rules and contractual agreements.
I dont believe his answer here. He has ABSOLUTELY no idea of what a hacker is. To 'control' a hacker is to eliminate the environment that he requires to operate in.
all I read in his answers is a corporate sell job to sell his politically correct hacker services. what a load of crap.....
A system and method are provided for translating local IP addresses to globally unique IP addresses. This allows local hosts in an enterprise network to share global IP addresses from a limited pool of such addresses available to the enterprise. The translation is accomplished by replacing the source address in headers on packets destined for the Internet and by replacing destination address in headers on packets entering the local enterprise network from the Internet.
That is RFC1631 in a nutshell
Packets arriving from the Internet are screened by an adaptive security algorithm.
Ok, I'm interested now. Explain.
According to this algorithm, packets are dropped and logged unless they are deemed nonthreatening. DNS packets and certain types of ICMP packets are allowed to enter local network. In addition, FTP data packets are allowed to enter the local network, but only after it has been established that their destination on the local network initiated an FTP session.
Uhm, NAT does this already. This description of Cisco's 'NAT' is inherent in the design of traditional RFC1631 NAT. If a packet is going to an internal computer, where the internal computer did not initiate the connection, then drop it, otherwise let it through. Exceptions are made where the NAT proxy cannot determine if a connection was initiated (like DNS or ICMP).
The potential for abuse is too overwhelming. I dont care if you are the RIAA, the MPAA, or the freaking president of the USA. It isn't going to happen.
Exactly where the heck is the ISO image for the i386 version?
Isn't it jsut a *little* odd that they eagerly advertise that their Sparc version of 7.0 is posted on their FTP site, where there is no i386 ISO image for 7.0? Does this have anything to do with them offering a Personal and Professional version of the Intel variety?
Arce initially found the locale vulnerability on a Sun Microsystems server, but it affects all Linux and Unix operating systems except OpenBSD and FreeBSD, he said.
And it is this comment that emphasises the need for a Linux project similar to OpenBSD (as asked in the previous/. article Here)
This is not a flame, but we need a distribution that emphasizes security and code auditing, as opposed to the current trend of adding more and more bloat to an otherwise fast and stable kernel....
Beware, for the following is a random collections of comments, criticisms, and rants. You've been warned.....
I dont mean to be a bearer of bad news, but this story (or something similar) was posted earlier in the year.....
anyhoo, there seems to be few updates to their site, so I am openly wondering what the status of development is. I've been poking around in their FTP site on and off over the last 6 months, and I have yet to come across the latest UCLinux tarfile.....
Another project which is really cool and is updated more often is the Linux on Coldfire. This site seems to be better geared towards developers, as multiple coldfire cores are supported....
Alright, I'll stop rambling now. Time for my medication.....

The highest drug crime rate is within a 4 BLOCK RADIUS OF PIGEON PARK, IN DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER. This does not constitute 'Vancouver', only a small part of it.
AC coward......

Now the RIAA will demand a tax on all paper tape.
Just keep a team of oil rig workers on standby, in case they are needed for such an emergency....
If someone used a Linux box to run the script.....
They got trounced on by the EVERYONE.

And *where* is LinuxOne listed? Oops. Time for my medication now.....
there is only a finite number of ways one can use the word 'sex' as a keyword.....
would it hang if you didn't respond after 15.4mS?
If you don't get it, read the Metric Tonnes of Quickies.....
Is to send 14 ppl up and cram them into Mir, and have them eliminated 1 by 1.
Now *that* would be entertainment......
I have, on occassion, tried 'alternate' means to get a Windows NT server to work.....
Eeka! Beeka! Boo!
Have they asked RMS for forgiveness yet?

and you'll have a run away hit.
*sigh*
I see absolutely no reference the the 'Any' key.....
With an SMP system, You can spread the ping across multiple CPUs! Much like adding new hard drives.
Alright, Ill stop being silly now.
Moo!
Assuming of course that you *can* run SoF as a dedicated Internet game server, what would be the law surrounding having one in BC?
I for one am greatly interested, as I am in the process of starting up a gaming site w. several game servers.........
Would we need to use Adult Check?
Just a thought.....
Write only memory
Oops. Time for my medication again.....
Ooops. Screwed up the link. Its Linux on Coldfire
