Neglected to add that you can access the content on the disk how you want. Just punch in the number of the section you want to get to. Great way of finding easter eggs (EG: From Hell, to reach the hidden 40 minute easter egg, yes, 40 minutes, you punch in 21).
Actually, a lot of the AD1500's from WalMart are hackable. You need to check the serial number (you can find stuff on the net about it.)
I got an AD1500 in January and it was software moddable (get the wrong serial number on it, and it's a hardware mod unfortunately). Burn the rom to a CD, stick it in the player, it whirrs, flashes the rom, ejects the disk. Bingo. Region free, no Macro etc... Google is your friend.
Best part about Apex? Very cheap, and yet one of the few DVD players on the market that can play PAL DVD's on an NTSC TV. I know, I've done it.
All this biometric stuff just reminds me of the episode of Red Dwarf where Kryten and Lister are deleted from existence and use a severed hand to access a door.
This means someone could skin me alive to access my Hotmail account...
Amusing. In all seriousness though, I still use them regularly. My laptop lacks a network connection and the serial port is hosed, so transporting files to it, floppy is the only way. (Installed Debian via floppy.)
There's also the little thing called BOOTDISKS! What use is a rescue disk without a floppy drive to put it in?
hehehe I can't remember which coverdisk it was (Amiga User International?) but back when the Saddam virus was wreaking havoc, one of the mags "kindly" gave away the virus on a coverdisk. The only program that could nuke it required two disk drives and I only had (and it wouldn't work from ram). Lost a third of my disk collection to that bastard.
If you get certain APEX model DVD players (be sure to check the serial number, some require hardware modding), the A1500, available at most Walmart's, you can download a rom from an A1000, burn it to CD, stick the CD in and voila, your player is now Macrovision free, region free, AND can defeat the RCE protection that is used on some disks.
Add to this the fact that the APEX is one of the few that converts PAL to NTSC on the fly, thus allowing European disks to play, and you've got a great player.
I've flashed mine and tested it with a region 2, PAL disk and it played fine. I wanted to play out of region disks mostly, but I also wanted to defeat Macrovision purely on principle. Fuckers.
I've had my M105 for 4 months, and I've had to do one hard reset. I installed a bunch of new software, and SOMETHING hosed the device up. I couldn't delete software. It still ran fine, but as soon as I tried to delete stuff, the thing locked up, so I had to hard reset.
What difference does it make? If you're so pissed off now the show has been utterly spoilt, do something constructive for the hour that just got freed up in your schedule. Pet a cat. Take a walk. Masturbate. At least with the latter you have something to show for it at the end... Instead of whining about what's been spoilt, stop, take stock of your life, and realise what a sad bastard you truly are for being so anal...

I gave up on X-Files long ago, but knew this was coming so actually watched tonight. Sure, it spoils that they die, but the fact is, you don't know how, why, where etc...
Get a life. Jesus, I already know how this season of Buffy ends (with something VERY big) because I accidentally read spoilers. Oh well.

I have no idea. Just got a standard stereo TV.
I've only had one problem. On Disk 3 of the new Pearl Harbor 4 disker, one of the menus doesn't work. Moving the arrows does nothing. Odd.

With no floppy, you also can't create DOS bootdisks for old games.

If they can goof like this, then it's probably only a matter of time before a few hundred thousand CD's are shipped with infected clients.

I've heard a few dodgy stories about Palm, but I've had my M105 for 4 months now, no problems. (Touch wood.)
I think a lot depends on how it gets treated as the build quality is a bit crap.
