Boo hoo... What you're misguidedly assuming, like so many other companies, is that people who crack your piece of software would have actually PAID for it if they couldn't crack it. Speaking as someone who was in the pirate scene, this is crap. I don't know of a single person who ever bought software that they couldn't get a crack for. (Though asking for support is kinda cheeky, but I did it with Blizzard many years ago.)
Speaking as a coder myself, I've released all my software for free. Do with it what you will. Most shareware trials are too restrictive, pointless, and the software is usually about 10 times more expensive than it should be. It seems these days some clown gets Visual Basic and suddenly thinks they deserve $30 for their piece of shit software that a 3 year old could have written in 10 minutes.
I'm not saying whatever mystery software you create is crap, but the fact is 30 day trials piss people off, and so much share is garbage out there today... You don't know if whoever wrote it will be there to support it next year, next month, hell, even next week.
Still discovered how to reset shareware trials in Windows. Have a massive BSOD destroy your system registry. Touch extreme though... Still finding knackered software now, two months later.
Hyperionics have an interesting system. Free licences for their older software, but the catch is you have to go back every week to get a new licence.
Yep, it's websites as well. I speak from experience.
The ONLY sites you can probably trust are like GamesFAQ's which posts actual user reviews. I've based a lot of my decisions on what I've read there, and it very rarely steers you wrong, unlike magazines...
That would be better than the treatment I received from a particular software company that will remain nameless.
As a former reviewer, I hate to burst anyones bubble, but nobody in the industry cares about honesty or integrity. Basically they want a free advertisement for their game, no matter how crap. If you play nice and give good reviews, they'll pat your back. If you are honest however, they will shank you the first chance they get as I discovered.
No more review copies, removed from press release lists etc... Basically they act with the maturity of a spoilt 10 year old who takes their ball home.
In other words folks, ignore reviews. The review could very well have been bought since most companies go out of their way to screw you and get you out of the game, even going so far as to trying to get you fired (which with me they failed, despite my editors having no fucking backbone. Fuck you J and J).
So to anyone who's surprised by this payola, what rock have you been hiding under? The review business is as corrupt as politics.
DiVX was quite possibly the stupidest idea ever invented, and anyone who actually bought one and now has a bunch of worthless coasters, well, really you got what you deserved, buying into a crappy technology that fucks consumers.
This idea sounds equally bad. Sure, they CLAIM to be competing with PPV and offering the disks at cheap prices, but I could envision a time where movie companies authorize these disks as a way to make you pay for the "rights" to watch the movie 10 times. More than that, tough, gotta pay again.
1) For a Gamecube, you need to shell out $X for the hardware.
2) The markup on console games is insane so the company can make back what they lose on the console.
The fact is, all the fucking zealots need to cut through the bullshit. You're assholes, end of story. Use whichever OS does what you want to do. I want to game, I go to Windows. I want to surf, do my email etc... I use Linux.
Dual boot rules, and is the only way to go. If you choose to just use Linux, well, your fucking loss.

Hehehe... LoseDoze. That's so funny, 'cos you took the "win" part and changed it to "lose" and the "dows" part and changed it to "doze". Man, that's so original... Honestly... God you're talented... You make Ralph Wiggum look like fucking Einstein...
I didn't steal my copy of "Railroad Tycoon 2". No, I recently purchased the Platinum Edition, which is the original, the Second Century expansion, and a whole host of other goodies, but way less than half what the bollockheads at Loki are flogging their version for.
As for Postal, dear god. I just picked up the Windows version for $3! Yeah, Loki, great idea, port a game from the last century!
With a business model like this, how could they POSSIBLY fail. Particularly given the "glowing" reviews Postal received *cough*.
The IQ's of the people who run the company can be measured on one hand.
And I repeat, I've had bowel movements more important than Loki.

Good fucking riddance to them. Been a Linux user for 4 years now and in that 4 years I've come to but one conclusion. LINUX SUCKS ASS! Sure, it's more stable than Windows, but please, my 3 YEAR OLD SCANNER doesn't work in Linux (not supported). 4 people I know could burn CD's then mysteriously, one day Linux simply quit working in that department.
It's a piece of shit. I want my hardware to work. I should not have to spend weeks programming a fucking driver for it.
Linux is dead, fucking deal with it. Loki's demise is just an amusing punchline to a joke that's already been told.

Why do they suddenly have a problem NOW? Modchips have been available for years now. It's not as if these new modchips do anything that hasn't been done for years.
Sony should just shut the fuck up. I mean honestly, the amount of people who buy modchips is probably miniscule.
That's what it will boil down too. The old PS1 modchips allow you to play imported "out of region" games and play them. I have several myself (Fire Pro RULES!). Guarantee it's the DVD thing.
Of course, not sure why you mention the RIAA. Why the fuck would the RIAA give a shit about DVD's?
They probably stole the WINE code anyway. If it's closed source, prove otherwise.
I'll gladly use Windows software. Hell, I just paid $3 for a game that the fucking thieves at Loki are porting and will sell for full price if they don't go bankrupt before they finish it, which if there is a God, they will.
Preach on brother. I'm a reformed Linux user. Fuck Loki and their piece of shit 3 year old ports. I can get the platinum edition of Railroad Tycoon 2 which has the second century addon bundled AND a load of new scenarios for half the price those twats at Loki charge.
Their latest port? Postal. Dear god, that game got lame reviews when it was released last century...
Linux gaming is dead, get over it. The sooner Loki go bankrupt the better. Then people will write Linux games off as a shite idea. You're better of downloading WINE than purchasing any of the shitty old ports. WOO! Yeah, Linux, an OS with a great future behind it.
Except they didn't truely explain why lister can't concevably spend the rest of his life in the 'better than life' total imersion video game.
This was explained in the books. People using BTL usually died after prolonged use as they stumbled around wherever they were with the kit on, smashing into things, falling down stairs etc... Basically injuring themselves repeatedly without realising. (It was considered a drug in the books.)
Well perhaps if you spent a little more time in the real world and less time staring at a monitor...
The fact is this is NOT news. It's been known for at LEAST 2 months that they were killed off.
I can seriously Buffy for everyone as well, so I suggest you all shut the fuck up.

Incidentally, the best game music of recent years was in Legend of Mana on the PSX. Splendid stuff.

You missed the best one of all. The starting character for humans in WC1. "Why do you keep touching me?"
The Orc was pretty cool too. "Stop poking me!"
In Starcraft, Kerrigan was cool. "Doesn't take a telepath to know what you're thinking." And the one unit that sounds like Mr. Burns.
