  2. Re:Can someone explain this? on Security Vulnerability in Microsoft .NET Passport · · Score: 1

.NET is mainly a bytecode interpreter (virtual machine). However, multiple languages (mostly Microsoft languages) can be compiled into that bytecode, meaning that you can take portions of code written in VB and 'integrate' it with code you've written in C# or Visual C++. That's how it's supposed to work anyway. It's not a terrible idea, but apparently the VM doesn't fit well for all languages. For an open source version of this, look to Parrot ( http://www.parrotcode.org ). I have high hopes for it.. I think .NET might be used by MS in other meanings as well, but I think this is the main component.

Oh.. I should have mentioned this in the previous post. I used to work for IBM Global Services as well. I would say, in all honesty, that USi has a much better support structure and it's much easier to get information (internally) about a box, a client, their network infrastructure. Everything. This was a huge pain at IBM, it was all in excel spreadsheets and lotus notes. The monitoring system wasn't as refined either.

All that said, you probably wont' get anything from either one of them unless you have an 'enterprise application' that you wish to host (weblogic, broadvision, dynamo, siebel, peoplesoft, lawson, exchange, etc.).

Alcoholism does not necessarily equate to frequency. You can drink a lot and not be an alcoholic and you can not drink very often and be an alcoholic. My grandmother was an alcoholic and she drank probably once every few months. It's really all about drinking in spite of the serious consequences your drinking has on others and on your own life (such as while hurting loved ones, while ignoring committments, etc.).

Is this not way off topic, though?

Did you see this at the Metreon in San Francisco? Usually all they did there was stretch the movie a bit to make it wide enough for the screen. I think the only reason that they REALLY use the IMAX theater for feature films (usually, not in that case) is because the theater has more room to fit people for popular movies. I doubt this is going to be letterboxed though. The matrix was never intended to be shown on an IMAX screen, that was just something the Metreon and possibly a couple of other theaters decided to do.

I've been happy with Megapath for a few years now. They consist of mainly business customers and there is no separation between home and business users (no separate number, for example). I currently have 1500k/384k (roughly) with a block of 8 ips. I also have reverse DNS delegated to my nameservers. They have also fulfilled a few special requests that I have made which probably fall outside of their policies. However, I've gotten many good people on the phone there and really can't complain. The service is stable as well and I always get full speed through my line. Overall, I'm satisfied :).
