There's video of the projector in action here

  3. Re:How long until it catches on? on Police Data-Mining Done Right · · Score: 1

So you feel that criminals will start overlaying crime reports with other data, such as weather, traffic, sports events and paydays for large employers and analyze it three times a day ... to commit petty crimes like purse snatching outside of payday loan establishments?

  4. Re:How is this news? on Couple Bonding Through PC Building · · Score: 1

This should be on the Onion, not slashdot

  5. Look on the bright side on House Approves Warrantless Wiretapping Extension · · Score: 1

Passing this bill will allow congress to go on their vacation unabated.

  6. The record already did this on Elton John Says Internet is Destroying Music · · Score: 1

The The commercial record already did this in the 20s. Ordinary people slowly went from being performers of music to being consumers of music, ceding control of popular music to the recording industry and its mouth pieces, such as Elton John.

If anything, the internet is bringing us closer to the times when normal people made and shared music together. Just a few minutes on youtube will yield videos of lots of ordinary people playing renditions and variations of their favorites songs. I think this is hundreds of times less "cold and impersonal" than, say, attending an Elton John concert in an arena packed with tens of thousands of people.

  7. Re:I had the exact opposite experience on Explaining the Special Effects Behind Transformers · · Score: 1

When I lived in LA everyone clapped at the end of movies. It seemed extremely stupid to me.

  8. Sid Meier's Pirates! on Serious Games - World of Borecraft? · · Score: 2, Insightful

This game is my favorite game of all time, when playing it I learned the geography of the Caribbean without even realizing it. Games can teach a lot transparently if the topic isn't overbearing and remains relevant to the game.

  9. Open Source? on Is It Time For an Open Source Certificate Authority? · · Score: 1

How can a certificate authority be "Open source?"

Maybe what the submitter meant to say is free (as in beer)?

  10. Re:alienware = dell on Alienware Admit Trying to Fiddle Reviews · · Score: 1

They did mention this fact and even speculated on whether or not Dell was behind it. Why not read the article?

  11. Great for now but ... on Croatia Adopts Open Source Policy · · Score: 4, Insightful

In a month Microsoft will be offering them a fantastic licensing deal and like other countries that "decided" to use open source, they'll likely change their course.

  12. Huh? on Shake Your Umbrella for a Random Song · · Score: 1

I'm sure on a technical level, this is a great idea, but how many days of the month does anyone use their umbrella? I doubt this will succeed commercially.

  13. Someone Always Predicts This on Will Next-Gen Consoles Kill Off PC Gaming? · · Score: 1

Someone makes this prediction every time the new generation of consoles come out. The truth is, as long as software piracy is fairly easy, PC gaming will always be in vogue.

Even if this did kill the PC gaming industry, we'll only see huge game houses like EA abandoning PCs in favor of greener pastures and independent gaming houses taking their place. This is a good thing for innovation (Remember Commander Keen?)

  16. Is this for real? on McAfee lists Adware in Top 10 Viruses · · Score: 1

If you click on the link in the top 10, you'll come here. What's up with "Find Joke Programs?" That seems a little too specific to be real.

I just bought it yesterday when Best Buy opened and I have to say, the game is BEAUTIFUL even at the low quality settings. As always, Id has delivered something incredible years before it's time. Thank you for another ground-breaking release John Carmack!

Also, has anyone heard if and when there will be level editing tools made available for the game?

  18. News for Trailer Trash. Stuff that Matters. on Robosaurus · · Score: 1

  19. Re:critical news on WB Cancels Angel · · Score: 1

The RIAA has joined in, and happily it seems.
