I do IT work in a warehouse/distribution company. When we ship out double orders or other mistakes like this, it's actually harder to catch, since customers don't report these errors. So and bugs in the system or picking errors are actually more likely to be in favor of the customer, since errors are not in favor of the customer are reported and fixed.
Interesting point. There are some problems with fingerprints that I see: 1) You can't change your fingerprint if it gets compromised (like you can change a password). 2) It will be used for everything from passwords to applying for loans, applying for a job, etc, just like the social security number with all it's problems. 3) If someone needs your fingerprint bad enough, they can just cut off your finger (ie: to rob you at an ATM or something).
Well, presumably IP Innovation had to buy the patent from somebody, so the original inventory should have been paid already.
But still, I agree that companies like IP Innovation shouldn't be able to extort money from companies after waiting so many years for a technology to become ubiquitous.
but then again, half of all lawyers graduate in the bottom half of their class
Is this true??? We must do something to improve the quality of lawyers! Also I'm trying to figure out why 40% of sick days are taken on Mondays and Fridays, but that's another issue.

The purpose is so that people can modify programs to suite themselves. However, if you want to repackage and redistribute the code, then you need to include the source code and the license, I don't think that's too much to ask.
Rush is a great example. Vapour Trails was also way too compressed, there is a great article about this album, which also answers a lot of questions people have posted here as to why this is happening. Well worth the read for anyone interested in this stuff.

Only on Slashdot do we discuss what is the most appropriate OS for a 13 year old girl. :)
Don't blame us, all the good birds and animals were taken by other countries. That's why we have the loon and beaver as our nation symbols.
I think I registered about 6 or 7 years ago also, if that helps.
You already mentioned Lara Croft!

What ever happened to TCP/IP over power lines? It used to be mentioned around here occasionally, but I haven't heard anything about that in a while.
