Yep, I have noticed this too, especially on cymbal crashes... what you hear is kind of like that banding effect you see when you reduce a high quality jpeg to less colours. It's hard to explain, but is a dead giveaway of MP3 compression.
I never give my real date of birth to any website -- it's one more piece of information that seems to be asked when applying for any kind of loan or credit card, so I don't want that info out there. If it reduces my chances of being an identity theft victim even by a small margin, it's worth thinking about.
I have 2 working C64's at home, never had a problem with them. The only problems I had were 1541 drives which wouldn't read disks formatted on other drives. I guess the heads were out of alignment or something.
Same reason people will cut you off on the road, but not at the grocery line. Being distant and anonymous makes people feel less empathy, or something. Maybe people only act politely when there is a chance that they will be called on their behavior?
I'm a pretty regular user of Google maps since it came out, and I've never had this problem. Sometimes it's faster than other times, but it always works. I've used it at home, at work, at friends houses, etc. I'm in Canada, so no Comcast up here!:)
I was getting an error message on Slashdot when trying to access this thread earlier. Maybe I was the only one. But it did seem like the story was on the front page for a long time before any comments were made.
Welcome to Slashdot XP!
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. True in politics, and bandwidth allocation. ISPs cannot be trusted to police Internet traffic.
I prefer PISS (Proximity Injected Serial Send). Longer range, but less volume.
And just how will Sony profit from that? They can't afford to have their devices talking willy-nilly to devices from other manufacturers.

But they can still refuse you entry.
In Soviet Russia, box tricks you! *ducks*

Bingo!
Bingo! Bingo! Bingo!
If you had spent a couple of years using a C64 with a tape drive first, you would have loved the disk drives, believe me.

That Steve Jobs! Charging a premium for what most consider "normal". Kinda sounds like the whole Apple philosophy! :)
No, this is only phase one, where they eliminate the cubicles. They don't eliminate the desks until phase two.
Someone should photoshop that first pic so that the Dell flatpanel shows either a BSOD or "All your base are belong to us" message.
Yeah, but who is claiming the PC is able to run Vista? The PC manufacturer? Or is MS certifying that this model of PC is able to run Vista?
Your office toilet is Vista Certified? Brings new meaning to the term "system dump".
Well at least our cell phone service will be getting cheaper. No fancy ring tones will be allowed, but we'll have cheap phones.
You're obviously not a Rogers customer.
But stumbling around in the dark when all the good seats are gone isn't much fun, either.
That pretty much describes *all* kids entertainment and toys.

It seems to be killing Slashdot's hard drives also!
I think you may be in the minority, most people are happy to get free stuff and won't report it, no matter how easy! :)
